Wow. If you are looking for handmade Mexican artesania and art, Tikal is the place. Though from the outside the store is understated, well-fitted to its residential neighborhood, the store is immense, and though it is full of delights from all around Mexico, it is not crowded. The store itself is beautiful to wander through, and you may want to plan to spend a couple of hours, one pass through to understand what is available, and another to hone in on what you'd like to purchase.
The range of items is significant: textiles of many kinds, ceramics, pottery, fine art, glassware, clothing, religious. They don't have everything, but they are likely to have what you're looking for unless it is super niche.
I expect prices here are higher than you would find at some of the markets in the city center (el centro), but you can be sure that these items are made in Mexico, which is not the case at the cheaper markets in Monterrey.
The quality of the items is also high. While there are items at a range of price points, these aren't the garish versions you might find in some markets. The only way you are getting lower prices than what you find here is to go to Michoacan or Oaxaca or Puebla, etc. to find the local artisans who make them.
The staff here are knowledgeable and work as a team. They will take your items and get them wrapped securely, for local or long-distance travel, while you are still shopping. They'll answer questions about the craftsmanship, art, region, and the artists themselves. They're not overbearing, and they'll give you the amount of help you want or need, and they seem happy to do so.
