I felt like I got to have a dog while I was in Seldovia. Rooms were spotless and homey. Great location, walk to everything. Best free breakfast I've ever had at a hotel, way better than the crappy "coffee & carbs" setup everywhere else has. I will be back next time I'm in Seldovia!

I immediately tried to cancel the reservation by calling and emailing the information located on the hotel confirmation page, the phone number voicemail was full so I instead sent multiple emails to the email on the confirmation page in attempt to contact someone who could help me. The owner Marry who was very unprofessional and rude called me the day of our check in to tell me we had missed our check in, I told her we tried to reach out multiple times to cancel the reservation and she claimed she did not receive anything. I then sent her copies of the emails I had sent to show her I tried to reach out she then told me that was the wrong email, I explained that was the only email listed on the reservation page and the phone number as well listed on there was full. She was very rude and argued with me practically calling me a liar when I showed her the proof of my emails, she then said she was going to charge us anyways for the two nights for not cancelling. I told her I was not paying for the two nights because I had tried to contact someone multiple times. She then charged my card anyways without my authorization. Do not make the same mistake I did and book a room here!

The food is amazing, the staff is amazing, and the accommodations are luxuriously rustic (rustically luxurious?). During our stay, we went on privately-guided hike and kayak trips, had a gorgeous private sunset boat ride through Tutka Bay, and man, they really make the most of that epic deck space. Over 48 hours, it featured morning yoga, fishing, anemone-viewing, a helicopter landing, and glorious, glorious hammock naps. All of this is included. So is wine. And a massage. Tutka was a real highlight of an incredible trip to Alaska - I cannot recommend it highly enough.

And don't forget about the hot tub, sauna, yoga classes and massages. The accommodations/cabins are spotless, comfortable and individual--great for families, couples, honeymooners et al. I recommend Tutka Bay Lodge very highly. We were a 3 generation small family group and we created lifetime wonderful memories!

I preface this review by mentioning this is Homer, AK. I say that because expectations for hotels…read moreare different in AK than in LA, SF, NY, or other touristy locations. What we expected based on their website, our friend's recommendation, and some reviews on Trip Advisor was to get a decent room with cozy accommodations, and a nice elder couple in the front office. We got all that we expected. THE ROOM & THE LOCATION: We booked a room that was pretty basic and it was $99/night. They switched our room b/c the person in our booked room opted to extend their stay and so we got upgraded. We had this awesome 1 bedroom, 1 bath room with an additionl twin bed (which was used one of our last nights there for our friend, so came in pretty convenient) a couch/living room area with a TV, a FULL KITCHEN, and a balcony with a couple of chairs and table. The balcony OVERLOOKED the grassy area and had an awesome view. We also were able to walk around quite easily (we did have a rental car also), which was nice for getting to know Homer. Free wi-fi and basic cable included also. You could never get this price in CA with such a great view and the kitchen sure came in handy! STAFF/SERVICE: We emailed the place and it often took 2-4 weeks for a reply, so we learned that the phone was best. It is family owned and operated, with the elder couple living on site. I don't know that we ever spoke with the daughter besides by email, but she usually responded later than it would take to talk by phone. Not a big deal when it came down to it. The owner, John I think, had listed all the rooms handwritten and had us in there when we arrived, no worries. He gave suggestions if we asked and was quite polite. One day, we did enter when the cleaning lady was working on our room but she was almost done and extremely apologetic. Hey, we were the ones that didn't leave long enough right? HAHA. She was really nice and polite when she returned with our towels and asked if we needed anything else. Bottom Line - I would DEFINITELY return here if we were back in AK!!!
