I found some really nice key rings upstairs on sale and they have made fun gifts for family and friends. My spouse is a librarian and Black's sells a variety of games and toys that add so much to a library. Location is great and even during peak seasons, like spring and summer, we've always found parking within walking distance. The customer service is friendly and helpful and they have some good sales and clearance items too. On our most recent visit on Veteran's Day, we found some winter gloves and a gift for a friend. I still have some of my Cats Meow wooden 'structures' of Blacks (of course), Julie's Dress Shop, Melvin Village Church and Calefs. It was great fun to go by boat to get the Sunday paper, at LEAST one pack of gum/candy to split between us kiddos and then enough donut holes from the Yum Yum Shop to last the boat ride back to 19 Mile Bay and then MAYBE one bag for family that did not go on the boat ride!! I've been eyeing them ever since she showed me some that she has back in Dec. when I was @ her house. I haven't really wanted to buy them due to them being a little pricey so I'm excited to try them out. Cassandra had told us how this building use to be an old Bait & Tackle shop. The owner worked hard redoing it & getting it ready for her trading post. Everything in the store was designed by a local Artists. I probably did 5 or 6 laps around every display in the shop. They had shirts, sweaters, hats, stickers, pins, art prints and some much more. They have a ton of variety including smaller less expensive items to larger paintings that may cost more. Staff have always been extremely friendly and will greet you with a smile and answer any questions you have. It will always be the store that helped me find one of my favorite local artists Flyn who have since opened their own retail space. Truly the perfect spot to grab yourself or family that item that will remind you of your time in Maine. You will find at least one item you want to purchase if not more. It's an easy pull off from the main road and a great first stop to get oriented to the area. There are also stamps here for people collecting travel book stamps. Kathy was especially great, she was very kind, helpful, and very funny. She went out of her way to make sure we had our trip planned out with all our questions answered. They also offer maps in multiple languages, including Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Hindi and I loved the accommodation. Overall, great stop to get acquainted with the White Mountains!

After walking through, and looking at a whole lot, I was still unable to find a gift that caught my eye. I see that as more my problem than theirs.

Well, stop I did, to see if they had a gift for a friend's birthday. First, I love any store that smells like balsam as you walk through the door. The scent makes me feel like a kid again. I'm not from Maine (have been here long enough to feel at home), but as a kid we used to drive here from Ohio and spend a few weeks going up and down the coast. The smell of balsam reminds me of these trips. Second, I was shocked by the variety they had. Maple syrup, Maine souvenirs, crafting supplies, wooden figurines, and antiques. The have a sign stating that they "glue chairs". I didn't know that was a thing, but apparently, it is... They also sell wreaths and Christmas trees during the appropriate season. And finally, the owners were as nice as could be. They had out hot chocolate for the kids, and they wrapped my little gift up neatly. This little shop is well worth the drive into town because of how darn cute it is!

It's a cute, quaint little shop that you may want to check out if you are ever in the area. One thing that is true is what a previous reviewer said, the store is rather dark and it is difficult to see inside of. That and the amount of people coming into a small store made me have to go thru this place rather quickly. Its essentially to full of stuff. I wish I had more time to really check this place out with time, but I cannot stand enclosed spaces with too many people in it.
