One of my friend was wearing a sanuk flip flop but they did not allow her to go inside the casino because they said that's a slipper. Went here for a long needed vacation. Got the idea from a cousin who recently visited and thought it would be a good place for us to go outside the craziness of Manila, and he was right. Short 4 hours drive from the capital, it is one of 2 resorts of the same name. The second one is south of Manila. This one is located north in La Union. The area is not known for its ocean water or beaches but the location is a beautiful spot for relaxing and quietness. We were quickly checked in and found the room. There are a couple of food options located on premises. Try them but they are limited and just so-so. The breakfast is the best out of all the meals. The staff is friendly and accommodating so please be nice to them. Our suite was excellent. Good size, clean, ocean view, cold with AC and well stocked. Our only issue is the kind size bed was sagging in the middle and made it uncomfortable. The pools were all well maintained and clean. We were able to have the pool to ourselves at night since they close it at 10pm weekdays and 11pm weekends. Suggestion: use the pools at night. Less people and cooler. We were especially impressed with the lit flowers when the sun sets. They are spectacular. The spa is located a short walk from the main building, around the club house. They offer various services but always call first. Sometimes they are short staffed. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Thunderbird Resort. The staff was helpful and friendly. The lunch and dinner service could be better. Include the breakfast service. Highly recommended! read more

Had a Philippine trip in December. Stayed at grand Hyatt manila, the manor in baguio, hennan prime in Boracay, luxent in qc and thunder bird in la union. Outside looking in the property looks great, large area, beach front, great views in the restaurant, spa and golf course. Started our check in process showed passport they said room wasn't ready that's fine. Their check in time was at 3. Waited at their cafe, this place had good service kinda expensive for mid coffee but it's an upscale resort so I thought it was fine. We got a call around 230pm that our room was ready, and this is where it starts to go down hill. Did the check in process lady got id and credit card, swiped my credit card for the deposit and I notice her writing something, she started writing my credit card details. The number name and the expiration date. And I asked her what she was doing she said that she needed to write it down because the card details on the receipt was masked! And I told her that there was a reason it was masked , because the deposit already went through and the data was masked to prevent fraud, at this point I was super tired coz we drove from mnl going to La Union and waited for check in so I was like ok fine they're putting it in their safe anyways. While the bellman was walking us to our room I realized that there is no reason for them to write my details on a piece of paper. My room was pre paid, the deposit went through my passport/id had the same exact details as my card. so I went back to the front desk. Asked them to remove my details even if they were putting it in a safe because some other employee could get it and start ordering stuff online. They didn't want to remove it at first so I started flipping out and then they started cutting it I asked why they got it in the first place, explained that the room is prepaid deposit went through and all that. And they said something to the lines of they needed to protect themselves from skippers! So I flipped out more because they judged me in their eyes that my stuff could be fake and I could skip the bill on the hotel on a fully paid reservation!!!! And I told them that how can I skip I'm paid and I have deposit and they gave me some BS about them not being able to get the deposit from the bank if I skip! But they already charged it. God just thinking about it makes me mad again. So I just walked out. When I got to the room it was decent, not really an ocean front room because the palm tree was covering the entire view. The edges of the door showed significant wear and tear. The water pressure in the toilet and the sink was super weak. The flush on the toilet was iffy. You had to press it a certain way so that the water would stop flowing. And the hallways going to the room itself felt like a dungeon. No windows or natural sunlight, felt damp, humid and no ventilation. Towels felt kinda old and everything just didn't feel like it was an upscale resort, it kinda felt like it had motel vibes. After about 5-10mins of settling in housekeeping started knocking, they forgot to put the bath robes ‍. The next day when housekeeping serviced the room they had bed covers which they apparently also forgot on our initial check in. Fast forward to check out. They asked us to wait for their "check out process' which is just them having housekeeping check your room. After about 5mins go by we ask them how long is this going to take(we were in a rush to leave at 5am) and they said itd just take 3-5mins. So another 5mins go by and then a car gets there and the guy was like xxx(says our room number). So he was just about to just check our room... So I just left. Tldr : FRONT DESK TRIED TO COMMIT FRAUD, rooms old, housekeeping didn't have a certain standard in fixing room(forgot numerous items on setup of the room). Actually a little Pricey for a hotel room. The housekeeping department was great, the hotel desk was very kind, with the exception of RICHARD, not a very professional person. I'm thinking he may not like his job. Nicole was very attentive, very kind. As were the rest of the staff. I may or may not stay there again. This is a money making scenic stop. Don't fall for it. It's a trap. The buildings are run down and they charge $$$$ just to drive by. 3 of us were required to spend $500 pecos EACH just to get a pass to EXIT this so called resort. Never never again!! read more

Currently staying at Thunderbird Resorts & Casinos - Poro Point. If you look online, then you know they charge heaps of money just to stay here. We were intrigue by their "5 star" claim on this hotel so we decided to try it while staying at La Union. Needless to say, I was disappointed. The staff were great but the place is unkempt. It's like they left it as is for years now and hasn't done any update on this place. I expected a much grander place (I stayed at the Lind Hotel in Boracay and they charge the same rate and this is far cry from The Lind). - upon check in, they gave you a drink which is überly sweet - the room is so dingy, it's not spotless, the furniture is so dated, the room smells like moth balls. It's like the room has that smell of "old baul". You can see rust everywhere. - everywhere needs updating, from the paint to all the rusting metals which is everywhere! - the security guard is so uptight, no privacy at all, the way he was looking. - you can't go down the beach. What's the point of staying at an expensive place with a beach view if you can't go down the beach? - their restaurant's breakfast buffet lacks of selection - their Olives restaurant is full of flies, that needs fumigating. It's just downright nasty. You can see them going to your food and you can't even enjoy the food because all you do is shoo them away! They were eating before me!! The great thing about this place is the view. I guess that's what people pay to stay in this overly priced resort. Left the room, came back and found another snack by the bed, meaning they came in and "fixed" the room. Really Thunderbird Resorts & Casinos - Poro Point this is the best you could do? People were calling it the Santorini of the Philippines, with the similar building designs. Keep in mind that everything is still in construction, especially the other villas and landscapes. The check-in time is at 3pm even when you have a reservation. They said that they are cleaning the rooms, when it should have been ready for you. The check-out time is at 12pm. Exorbitant prices even for food. For me, it isn't really worth it to come to a resort with no warm welcome and with empty and unfinished landscapes. Dirty furnitures too, at the lobby. After travelling 6 hours from Manila, you would expect at least a welcome drink & warm reception, instead, service was cold & perfunctory. It had a fastfood "next customer pls" feel to it. We were not even briefed at all about the hotel amenities, restos, spa etc. We chose this hotel precisely because of the enticing pool advertised in their website. To our dismay, there was an expansion renovation going on right beside it. The view was marred by a division made of galvanized iron sheets. The pool itself was quite dirty with floating dead insects. To be fair, they did send someone to clean it but only a day after we reported it. There was a stunning newly-built infinity pool at the other end of the resort. Alas, it was too deep for my kids and our friends' kids to wade in and their souvenir shop ran out of stock of swim floats. This was the first time we went to a resort wherein WE COULD NOT SWIM AT ALL. Dinner at Olives was reasonably priced but nothing spectacular though. Breakfast buffet selection was limited and scrimped. They did not even bother to use fresh orange juice as it tasted like powdered Tang. Ironically, the same attentive staff at dinner was indifferent & distracted during breakfast. we had to ask 3x for water goblets that should've automatically been served. The resort is actually gorgoeus & is full of potential. The beach view is spectacular and very relaxing. I wouldn't mind coming back but if & only if they would: 1. Improve customer service especially at the reception area where first impression counts. Staff should be briefed about the importance of going the extra mile, of informing guests of their amenities & restos, of always smiling & greeting guests while maintaining eye contact, of anticipating their needs before they ask, all the basic stuff, etc. Customer service is what sets one resort from the other. 2. Please, set up a system to regularly & consistently clean & filter the pool. Please, just try to imagine your very own kids swimming in there & possibly ingesting the dirty water, how would you feel then? 3. On-going construction was everywhere & so were the unsightly hollow blocks, sand & gravel, wood, galvanized sheets, etc. Please make an effort to cover up these eyesores & concentrate on one area at a time, then finish it as soon as possible. Also, us guests would have appreciated it if we were given a heads up instead of being mentally unprepared & confused to see all these construction debris all around. So... We had just arrived at this hotel last night. Our first night staying there was some sort of construction work, at 10:30pm. We had called the front desk and complained about the noise issue. And the noise of banging and equipment had continued until 4am. We've called numerous times about the noise to the point where we found ourselves yelling to at the top of our lungs because it was so loud. We had no sleep that night. Lousy service. P.S. The breakfast here is terrible, omelette was nasty, their adobo sucks! read more
