Update: Someone higher up called me and was very helpful. I appreciate this. Will update in a few weeks after I've seen some more bills. Billing departments gets one star. It's very sad because the therapist is good and helping my family member so we're stuck dealing with the unethical practice of the billing department. They tack on bogus charges, taking advantage of already vulnerable people. What choice do we have now? Walk away and spend another year trying to find someone or deal with hours of phone calls disputing charges. Do not use this company unless you're desperate. We were so we'll stick with it. I've been dealing with a billing issue for over a month. They say they'll call back and never do. They say they'll update the bill and never do. Then today my card was charged the wrong amount. The woman on the phone gave me a huge attitude like it was my fault they are scamming us. read more

Hi Given how the past six sessions have gone with Christian and the level of distractability, I believe in-person sessions will be better for all of you at this time ( I am not currently offering in-person treatment). I am aware there are a few clinicians within Thriveworks that are making in-person appointments with children currently, but it would require you to travel.  I can facilitate a transfer of therapist if this is something you are interested in.   I also have not heard back from you in regards to  my last email. (This is the email I got from my sons counselor the following is my reply) Hello His first session you spoke with Ronald and  I . His second session you guys chatted and played uno. His third session again you played some games and built rapport. His 4th session was a missed appointment where I was charged 99$. Because I never received the proper information to get in touch with you. His 5th session he had a friend at the house but was in his bedroom separately the first half hour. Then you ended the appt at 4:35. His 6th session he was at my friend's house but there where no children present and again you ended the appt prematurely. If this is how you consider appropriate counseling then yes let's switch providers immediately.  I have never been more disappointed with a counseling service in my life. When I posted my earlier review I was asked to write to success at thriveworks.com which I did and never even received a response. Don't do it they lock you into a contract so your stuck for a year! Horrendous read more

Thriveworks DOUBLED my fee without informing me and just charged my credit card, and then REFUSED to refund me the difference after I complained. Unbelievable. I came here to see if other people had similar experiences and indeed, so many of the negative experiences have been due to the horrible billing department. Definitely lost a customer for good. read more

Terrible experience! I just moved and needed a provider to manage a medication that was already working well for me. I scheduled an appointment with one of their providers who advertised in their profile that they are knowledgeable about OCD. Turns out he was not aware that it often requires a higher dose than anxiety/depression and was really skeptical/reluctant to continue my dose. He instead kept offering to try different combinations of medications. Why would I want to spend weeks and weeks experimenting with my body when I already have a regimen that works for me? In addition, he was distracted-his phone rang at one point, and at another point he got on a video call with someone else without even telling me he was going to do so. He finally agreed to prescribe a month's worth of my medication, but said he would have to get approval from his team and meet again in a month to tell me the verdict for a long term prescription. And then, after that, he wanted to meet every other month. What an insane amount of money to throw at meeting with someone who isn't even very knowledgeable about my condition. My advice is to stay away. read more

My therapist was great. The business is horrible. Stay far, far away. I wish I'd listened to the many poor, 1-star reviews of their business practices. They noted my insurance information, then never entered it into their system. They delayed billing me (which I didn't realize until the day after I'd paid for my dog's euthanasia and cremation) for $850. That was an $850 bill that I wasn't expecting and hadn't budgeted for. Their billing office argued with me that I'm uninsured - I'm not. They offered no apologies for their failure to bill me (or my insurance) timely or for surprising me with a bill for $850 out of the blue. This company, at best, has inept managers and an incompetent billing department. At worst? Read the other reviews and decide for yourself whether they're a scam. read more

Terrible experience with this company - steer clear and avoid at all costs!! Provider was kind.

This place sucks. An hour before my supposed first appointment that I'd had booked for over a week, I got a text from Thriveworks saying "your appt has been successfully cancelled." Um... huh? I didn't cancel it. I guess the therapist, Danielle Simon, did without so much as an email to let me know. So let me get this straight - I can't cancel with less than 48 hours notice without being charged a $150 fee, but she can dip out an hour before and that's okay? Garbage. Garbage therapist, garbage company. Didn't see these reviews till now and wish I did. What a waste of time. Who runs a company like this - for "mental health" and then messes with your mental energy! Bye, Felicia. Never again. read more

Your insurance will be fraudulently rebilled, and you will have a hard time getting rid of them.

Terrible Terrible Terrible with billing. My wife had tried for over a year for them to correct the insurance billing. They keep saying someone will get back in 72 hours. Nothing but crickets. They just keep taking money from auto pay. Not ONE person has called her back. Guess best option for her is to report fraud to the bank. read more

The therapist we have is OK but the Thriveworks organization is horrible. I received notice of $135 cancellation fee for an appointment that I was never notified for! The phone system is not easily navigated by an ordinary human being and when confronted the counselor was understanding but the payment side of the business would not budge on the fee even though the appointment was re-booked in the same week. Terrible systems, terrible policy, rigid and uncaring business. read more

My experience with Thriveworks has been terrible FOR ME AND MY FAMILY'S MENTAL health. FIRST, THEY CHARGE A $99.00 FEE JUST TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT for their convenient appointment times/days. Sure, ok but they also charge $99 for a missed appointment on top of their "practice fee" read more

Theropist was good but the company is thr worst . They have horrible billing issued . I rescheduled an appointment because I was unable to make it . Well, they did set up my new appointment but never canceled the original appointment. I ended up get hit with $135 fee. Bs, if you ask me . I wish I looked at reviews before going here. Their customer service is horrible .Don't try to call , you will sit on hold forever. Will never use this company again read more

I feel bad for management/employees that work under this company knowing how awful everyone who has used it views it. I haven't had an account in MONTHS because of how bad the service was. And now I'm being charged $99 for absolutely no reason. I can't even sign into my account because I deactivated it however they can take money out of my account?? Also, I have called multiple times and no one answers. If some manager sees this, please contact me!! This is ridiculous. read more

The paperwork wasn't sent, the appointment did not appear on my dashboard and calls to this organization promised a lot but did not deliver. The billing department just pulls random amounts of money from your account without having prior authorization. I have tried calling them several times. When you finally get someone on the phone the call disconnects after a couple minutes and they don't call you back. There are many better solutions than Thriveworks read more

After reaching out to the email address provided in response to my initial review I was able to get in touch with someone that listened to my story and granted me a full refund/dropped my balance. It took a couple of months and several follow ups, but in the end they pulled through and got me taken care of. The person I was in touch with was very kind and communicative. While it took some work, I really appreciate them making it right. read more

They convinced me to stay becuase it was $25 for appointment after fining them in the EIP list for free. After 1 appointment and $220 charged without letting me know and a broken budget and worse situation, I am done. They need to be better to people looking for help. read more

NEVER GO HERE. Online prices on their websites are completely false. even for your specific therapist you get, they completely misinformed me. they said $99 per session WITHOUT copay. I have insurance and they told me over the phone multiple times it was cover at least half. get this. I only went TWO TIMES. And they charged me $395 for ONE SESSION! First because they NEVER billed my insurance like they said they did and would (because I called Tricare and they told me). AND Because it was labeled a "psych evaluation". which never happened. The therapist asked me a few questions about my past And that was IT. $395. And she ended the session 15 minutes before the hour ended so she could "have time to put the notes into her computer" and I was charged the full 60 minutes. ONCE AGAIN, $395! Then, I finally settled my bill issues, they changed the bill to $113 thank GOD, and finally put it through my insurance. But it still says they charged my insurance $395 for the first session. when ONCE AGAIN, online, it says $99, even for first session. AND this isn't even the beginning. the therapist I was given, Taylor Coghill. Was completely unprofessional. She NEVER psych evaluated me, which, I would know because I see a therapist AND a psychiatrist who both have done psych evals. AND, she would sit on her phone WHILE I was talking. I would be talking about traumatic events, and she'd be on her phone. And randomly nod "mhm mhm yes". With NO eye contact? Yeah no thanks. For someone who "specializes in anxiety disorders", she made me even more anxious, unseen and unheard. Then, as I said before, she ended session 15-20 minutes early to put notes into the computer, yet still charged me for the full 60 minutes?? I just personally don't think that's fair. to summarize, over the phone, they are super sweet and helpful but, I was not only completely MISINFORMED, but my therapist was unprofessional and inconsiderate. read more

Terrible experience. I was working with a counselor through Betterhelp for years, paying out of pocket but he wanted to be able to utilize people's insurance, and so he switched to this company. He was under the impression it would save me money because I'd just be paying a copay. After 2 sessions, I was billed nearly $300, AFTER insurance and had to completely end my therapy sessions. The worst part is that they notified me of the bill and not even 2 weeks later, took the money out of my bank account (you have to provide debit card info upon signing up.) Hugely disappointed and feel completely ripped off. They didn't offer any kind of payment arrangement, did no billing over than one text, then just took the $. Now I'm out $300 AND no longer have a therapist. Way to kick me while I'm (clearly) already down. read more

First I want to say - please get help if you need. I just would not recommending doing so through any Thriveworks locations. If you do continue, please note that cancelling a counselor and cancelling a membership must be done separately. I tried two therapists here. I didn't connect with either (one of them fell asleep during multiple of my sessions.) After this, I called Thriveworks and cancelled and expressed that I was not interested in continuing with Thriveworks. I was not given the heads up about needing to cancel my membership separately. read more

Thriveworks LLC does not appear to want to actually help others. Membership fee of $39.00/mo in addition to $359.00 for a 45 min session with a pre-licensed counselor? Mind you, I have nothing against pre-licensure work; however, this young lady had ZERO interest in actually getting to know me and my particular issue. No eye contact and quick to let me know future sessions could range anywhere from 16 to 53 mins. I closed out the session feeling worse than when I entered. Online counseling is a fantastic way to offer mental health services to those unable to get to regular 9-5 office hours, but we deserve respect and attention too. Thriveworks has work to do on their services. UTTER RIPOFF And so my search continues. read more

Michelle Ebenbach Is not reliable at all. canceled my brothers appointment without previous notice, was late to another appointment reschedule another appointment did not show up to one appointment and later told my brother that she had rescheduled him without previously notifying him and the last one she was late to the appointment and called him to do a telephone appointment instead when he specifically told her that he only liked in person appointments. because of her he quit therapy after years of me trying to convince him of the help he needs. read more

They will negatively impact your mental health! Do not go here! This business is predatory and unethical. They signed me up with the belief that it was a 1-time membership payment versus monthly. The first payment email I received even says "One Time Membership Fee" The initial appointment was billed to my insurance for $395 and called a "psych diagnosis". That was not the service I requested. And they didn't perform a psych diagnosis - the counselor asked your standard background questions. After I realized I was being charged monthly on top of the session fees, which were $130 after insurance, I called on 4/13/22 to cancel my membership and told them to take my credit card information off file. I asked them if I owed them any more money - they said no. I was assured that my credit card information was taken off file. On 4/20/22 they charged my credit card $261! I spent over an hour on the phone with them, asking them to reverse the charge and let me set up a payment plan. They denied this over and over because quote on quote "you received a statement, therefore we can't set you up on a payment plan". This is so unethical! 1 week after calling and being told I owe nothing and then they charge me and are unwilling to do a payment plan because they sent a statement?! That doesn't even make sense - that is less than a week to pay $261! This company does not care about your mental health. In fact, their business practices are intentional set up to harm mental health, cause stress, and exploit people at their most vulnerable times. Please take caution. Do not go here. read more

My first intake appointment had to be canceled, and the family member who was also attending was unexpectedly hospitalized for an aggressive pneumonia. I was not able to get ahold of anyone for weeks and when I finally do, I am told to submit discharge papers in order to avoid the $135 late fee. I submit them and spend an hour on hold for them to tell me the documentation is not sufficient. The family member was in the hospital for several months with this infection, and therefore, the date is past the appointment. I am STILL on hold asking for a supervisor and have not been granted one as the system is experiencing "updates". DO NOT make an appointment with Thriveworks. read more

I started out very hopeful. When the therapist didn't work for our child I have spent months trying to cancel the service and appointments!!! I keep being charged for missed appointments that we canceled months ago!! Every time I talk to someone new who assures me that they have canceled all appointments and our membership. I have spent so much time on this, and today, more than two months after canceling, I get a reminder for an "upcoming visit". And this is a company serving people who already are in difficult situations mentally. Stay away. read more

Thriveworks originally asked me to call and make an appointment locally, they told me they all shared the same office, I live in Charlotte NC. They said the soonest they could get me in was the next week in Raleigh (3 hours away), they said I could switch back to Charlotte after. I allowed them to do an assessment for 35$. I then canceled the appointment as I found someone local. They continued to charge me for 4 months plus a cancellation fee. They refused to even refund any part of the funds they took, while I received absolutely no service. Avoid at all cost. read more

Natasha cooper does not need to work with any patients. She was completed disrespectful and this was my first time meeting her . She has literally ruined my entire day from being a a**hole and should not be working with patients that have anxiety. She did not show any form of empathy, she did not even care to understand my background nor ask and she made me feel like I was nothing. I am requesting the zoom call be pulled to listen to how unprofessional she was. I asked several times how she would like for me to answer and she responded with the same ignorance. Terrible service! Our therapist flaked after 2 sessions and we continued to get billed monthly. When asked for a refund I was told I would be contacted within 24 hours with a response. When I did not hear back for a week I called to check on the status. Not only was I transferred twice, waited 45 minutes AND denied a refund but was then made to feel that it was MY fault because I should have received a refund the same day I canceled services. This company is the absolute worst experience I have ever had with any service. The link they sent me to sign up didn't work, so they sent me another one. Somehow, it created a 2nd account, and I couldn't even access anything. So, when I would book an appointment, I couldn't even see it. When I get a bill, I couldn't even see it. I spoke to them on 5 occasions asking them to just start over and delete it; they admitted it was their mistake but that they weren't going to do that. They said I could just call my therapist and book appointments that way, but the whole point of the service is to book with the portal conveniently and easily. So, I canceled my account, I've already paid all of my dues for my 4 sessions, and now I'm getting emails saying I'm overdue. It has been a living hell dealing with this company. And I have to call them again today, kill me. read more

This review is not specific to a certain Thriveworks location, it is specific to the Thriveworks organization in general. My son received excellent therapy through Thriveworks in Boston and we were very pleased with the help he received. However, when he had to stop therapy seven months ago and move back home to Colorado, we kept noticing a charge on our credit card. We thought it was just his copay for sessions he had done while still in Boston, but it turns out it wasn't. Apparently, he signed a consent form when he first became a patient and the form allows Thriveworks to charge us $19 per month for a "membership fee". We have still been paying this membership fee for the last seven months, even though he has not been a patient through Thriveworks for that time period. When I called to get my money back, they were only willing/able to refund me for three months-even though he isn't a patient of theirs anymore and he doesn't even live in Boston anymore! They said this was a fee that was charged automatically once the consent form was signed. Needless to say, I am not happy with their policies. I'm not sure if you can opt out or not, but please check before you sign up for their services. I feel this is a deceitful and unacceptable practice that takes advantage of people who are already having a difficult time. read more

If I could give them minus 5 stars I would, they charge you even when you cease using their services, and refuse to refund anything. It's a total scam and the treatment available was no better than any other local mental health center. Shame on you, Thriveworks. read more
