I wanted to do something different and new today so I headed here with my husband for their 10:15am…read moreservice. This church was mentioned in a book I read recently and I wanted to check it out. As we drove up, we saw a small church tucked away in the trees near an old barn and some children's play equipment. The scene conjured up the feeling of a friendly, small town. Thankfully, that's exactly what it felt like inside. Tea and coffee was available on a table in the hallway. Several women greeted us, and after learning we were new, gave us some information and asked/answered questions. We immediately felt very welcome. In the main room, several rows of chairs are arranged in a circle around a table with candles. This set-up, where everyone is able to see everyone, allows for more connection and communication with others. Half of the time, it didn't feel like we were at church, but rather, some large meeting. The service was very unique. It was a little bit of tradition sprinkled with some modern aspects of worship, several prayers, communion, a sermon, and contemporary worship with lyrics on a projection screen. I couldn't tell who the pastor was -- several people led the service. Because of the circle arrangement, these people stood at different points in the room. Children were also included as part of the congregation; they were dismissed to their own group prior to the sermon and came back in before communion. The congregation was a great mix of ages: babies, kids, teenagers, young adults, parents, and the elderly. Everyone fit in. After attending a mega-church for awhile, this close-knit community church was a breath of much-needed fresh air. We left the church in a great mood. If you're looking for a unique, connected, spiritual community, try this. You might see me there.

Over the many, many years of my life, I've been a member of various parishes. In all those years,…read moreI've found that Holy Family Church in Inverness, IL., is the only church that I looked forward to going to, not only for the masses, but also for the many opportunities to take on active rolls. From being a Lector/Proclaimer, a Eucharistic Minister, Mass Coordinator and being a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 11983. If you're looking for a church that offers a sincere family type experience, I encourage you to become a part of this wonderful parish, even if you have to drive an hour or so to get there! And by the way, bring your smile :) with you! My drive time is 30 minutes!

I love the Catholic Church. Deeply. I have never been to a Catholic Church I wouldn't return to…read moreagain, no matter the music, the homily, the architecture, or anything else. Until now. Nothing was holy -- from the art, the music, the liturgy. It was like a Mega Church giving shallow entertainment, hoping the sappiness stirs the congregation. Nothing Catholic about it. It was a bad imitation of a protestant service. I was horrified from beginning to end. For those who gave a good review, I urge you to find a good Catechism class. Not at this institution, though. Some may attribute dissatisfaction to the fact that this church has "liberal" views. I saw nothing liberal or conservative. I heard nothing liberal or conservative. I would be labeled "progressive" for my political views. Please don't insult liberals by calling what happens at this place such. I'm still in a state of disbelief.
