Great vet been taking my pets to them over 20 years. Only know Dr. Schrock. They are like family.

One of my pets was scheduled for surgery this morning at Three Trails. I waited in the lobby until my dog and I were called back to a room by a rude, short and dismissive vet tech. When I told her that her attitude was rude, she of course did not like that. She had me sign a paper, then she left the room never to be seen again. Later in the day, when I arrived to pick up my dog, the receptionist had the very same attitude. She was rude. She started to say something unkind to me but had the decency at least to stop herself. I have been patronizing this facility for a few years. Each time I am there, just about everyone employed there seem quite unhappy, never smile and act as though they do not want you talking to them. Their prices are extremely high and not worth having to deal with unhappy people.​​​ read more

I would seriously not recommend the grooming services there. I made the appointment on Saturday as the receptionist informed me was available. Upon arrival, the groomer told me the appointment shouldn't;t have been made because she is there only until 2 pm, and my dog really needed to be there longer but she would do what she could. Approx. 1 hour later I was called and told that they could not finish my dog because of his behavior and I needed to purchase 2 medications from them and then I would have to go to Walmart to purchase a third medication and then administer them all to my pet before returning a second time to finish the grooming. This is what I paid $90 for and was left with in less than 1 hour there. read more

They are so friendly. The staff is so caring. Have been coming here over 20 years. I have never been disappointed with their care for my fur babies. When our older dog passed away they helped us with her cremation. They are like family. read more

Just a little pricey, but the staff is friendly & Dr. Shearhart is great. I have seen other Dr's. there that were just O.K.; they wanted to tell you what you must do. Dr. Shearhart keeps you involved in the process, & will gladly give you some input & alternatives if requested. read more

The front desk experience. Every time I call someone answers the phone annoyed and then they make me feel stupid when I ask a question. Maybe replace the girls at the front desk and hire someone who enjoys their job somewhat. read more

Without insurance, pet care can get expensive. My dog recently needed a growth checked out. With the planned operation to remove cyst including anesthesia, it was over 1k. Except the doctor couldn't remove it decided on a biopsy, which was an additional charge. What my dog got was nothing. No removal, no biopsy because that was an additional expense. I had to pay for my dog to get cut up , stitched up snd sedated with anesthesia during the entire procedure and got nothing in return except an operation that didn't need to take place. Now I got to pay for it all over again to have the biopsy sent in and then another procedure to remove cyst which I could have saved the money if it was done the first time. I wasted money for the vet to tell me what I already knew, is that he has a growth. Plus the front desk wasn't helpful when it came to filling an insurance claim which still hasn't been reimbursed I feel lack of knowledge and being lured into expensive procedures without results was just business as usual raking up client bills for the sake of making money. No regard for efficiency read more

Really sad. Starting using this vet a long time ago and was great then. Not any more. Front desk staff snarky, well one of them, rest ok. New vet not consistent at all. Wants $$$ but doesn't care about your pet. Offers shots vs. meds. Don't need blood work for shots but you do if you want meds. Short term meds, multiple blood tests. Charge 4x more than most places for meds. I would recommend you look elsewhere. read more

We adopted Margaret on October 14, 2020. We've been looking for a Vet for a while and found Three Trails Animal Hospital.I read some of the reviews and wanted to give it a try. So, we had an appointment and I would say we did waited for 13 minutes to see the vet but,those 13 minutes were worth the wait. We sat down with the vet and he answered all my questions and explained everything to us without a rush like most do and also it did not break my pocket The receptionists were friendly and polite Overall I would definitely recommend Three Trails Animal Hospital to my friends and family. I have taken my pets here for over 10 years. Always 5 star treatment. Very kind and refreshingly competent! The took care of my cockapoo from day one through all 9 years until he had to be put to sleep, which they were sensitive and discrete about. Now they are helping me take care and make the best decisions for my Miniature American Shepherd puppy. Dr. Schrock is the hands down best vet in town, and the other vets there are very very good too. Dr. Appling is really good with timid animals, she is quiet and gentle. Dr. Chaney and the rest of the staff saw us on a busy Saturday morning when our Senior Chihuahua started acting strange. No other vets would see us due to the time/day. I have been taking my 7 year old golden retriever here for 3 years and have always had an amazing experience! She had to have surgery on both knee's due to ACL tears and they have a visiting dog surgeon who comes and does the surgery. It was comforting to know that she was getting specialized care. Just this last week, I got a new puppy and was concerned about him having worms. I called on a Thursday morning and they got me in that day! Again, I felt well taken care of and have received care from 3 different vets here. Recommend all of them! The front desk staff is always awesome about handling my pet insurance paperwork also! I will say my only negative would be that sometimes they are a little hasty on the phone when you call, but this past week when I took the puppy in I didn't have that experience so I think that has changed! read more

The doctors and staff at Three Trails have always been wonderful. They have taken care of my dogs, cats, and a bunny over the past 20 years. They explain what your animal is going through and why and then offer the options to help your animal get better. I had to have one of my dogs put to sleep. I had never had to do that before. It was awful. I had wanted to be there with my Clarence when they gave him the injections. The staff put me in the room on the side with its own private exit so you dont have to walk through the lobby when it's over. I was allowed as much time as I needed with Clarence until I was ready. It was still horrible, but the staff and doctors did all the could to make it a little easier. I drive 30 minutes to their clinic but I will always take my animals to them. read more

The other vets employed at the clinic are great. I would trust any one of them to care for my beloved dog, one of which just survived a big dog attack thanks to Dr. Rhodes. Dr. Appling is so compassionate and has helped me through the ending of 2 of my precious dogs' lives. The grooming staff is excellent, and my baby always loves going for his spa day there. read more

Rude on the phone. Probably won't go back. Very rude. Customer service gets you long time and faithful customers. My son goes to work, then attends college classes. The dog is itching and scratching like crazy. He's the type that needs something to calm him down before he is seen at the doctor. He will bite. No suggestions whatsoever about what to do for itching, also they don't understand that he isn't available tomorrow to take the dog to the vet. So they kept insisting the dog be seen on Friday. They won't provide anything to calm him down before he's seen...Even my schnauzer's vet will give me something to calm Davinci down, without seeing him. Flat out rude on the phone. ."He can't be that bad, We can't give him anything to calm him down before his appointment. And we can't give anything for itching before he's seen, sorry. We can't help you with that. We don't do that." Okay...it's your hand that gets bitten, and let the dog scratch himself raw. Surely they know this dog, his records are there. There are tons of other vets in this area that are reputable and kind. So, we are back to square one. I have a vet for my schnauzer, it's not Three Trails, and not affordable for my son to use for his dog. read more

Starting going to Three Trails with my new fur baby in I rescued in 2017 per recommendation of my step mother. Staff was great and had no problems. Unfortunately, my dog was in an accident and died. Months later i rescued a new fur pup and knew exactly where he would go for care. He wags his entire back end when he sees the staff. read more

Being new to the area, we needed to find a good veterinarian. We heard good things about Three Trails Animal Hospital, so we took our Chihuahua girl, Holly-Bug, there when she had an issue with her little paw. The staff was friendly, and compassionate. The vet took her time to explain options for treatment, and other questions we had. It was a very good experience, and the prices are reasonable too. I love Three Trails Animal Hospital! I take all my animals there including my asthmatic cat and my greyhounds who have special care needs due to the breed. They are very knowledgeable about greyhounds which is extremely important to me. They are always very thorough and even follow up with me after my appointments to see how everyone is doing and if I have any more questions or concerns. They will also do research and call other vets if something different and rare is needed or if some confirmation is needed. If they say they will get you answers, they will and will get back with you ASAP. I trust them with my animals wholeheartedly. All the vets are fantastic and I'm so glad that Dr. Rhoads is back. She's amazing and we missed her! The staff are friendly and my pets love them. read more

Dr. Schrock and the staff are wonderful. I got a Guinea Pig last year and Dr. Schrock was recommended as an exotic vet. He answered all my questions. I took my Guinea Pig for an initial check up and then recently for her annual wellness check. I also take my Guinea Pig to have the techs cut her nails. I'm too nervous to cut her nails. The techs do a nice job and everyone is nice and caring. read more

I've been taking my dog here for quite awhile now and had no complaints until yesterday. My problem is with the groomer and not the Veterinarian. They told me to be there between 8:00am and 9am. I was the 1st person there with no one else behind me. When I hadn't heard anything by 1:30, I tried to call but no one answered. I went there to check up on her and she hadn't been touched. Other dogs had already been bathed and groomed but mine hadn't. The groomer told me that she does the easy ones first. My dog is a small terrier, so I couldn't understand her reasoning. I have sheltered my doggo there before so I booked him to stay there months in advance while I was out of town. TWO DAYS, 48 hours before I am in a different state "Katie" the manager of the boarding and stay, TEXTED me and let me know that due to past stays my dog was no longer able to board there. It was unprofessional and seriously so absurd. I had never been told anything about this, like the last time he boarded you would have thought they would let a person know... but no concern or comment was made. So I of course didn't think it would be an issue. I also told her to send any and all files of my animals they had to the address on file and never got anything. They also sent me a "bill" in the mail as if I didn't pay the entirety of the bill in person when I picked my dog up. I had to call and confirm this with the receptionist. Said it was sent out as a receipt but the paper said AMOUNT DUE in big red letters. Yeah. Okay.... this place is falling apart. read more

I've read some reviews that weren't very good, but I don't see what they are talking about. Every business has days when things don't go exactly right, late, busy, etc... That's why people need to learn patience. My pets have been seen by Dr. Schrock, Dr. Appling, and Dr. Rhodes and I have never walked away feeling less than satisfied. They take the time to listen to my concern, my pets have been well cared for during procedures and their follow up has always been consistent. Called to do a litter check up just a basic check up weight, look in ears & mouth and 1st thing she says is are you a client. I said YES. She says "how many in the litter? 1?" I say 4. Dr. Rick and his team are absolutely amazing! My senior dog was in a fight and sustained several bite wounds. Dr. Rick and his team got her in, assessed her wounds and prescribed medications for her. I moved to the area a couple years ago and needed a new vet clinic. Three Trails was down the road from me and was referred by a friend. I have been very happy with them! My male black cat was diagnosed w diabetes almost two years ago. When I brought him in the first time he could barely walk and they done test and started him on shots. They got him regulated, he was running and jumping even for a big boy! I took him back for his check up this year and he is no longer on shots as he is in remission, thanks to Dr. Appling for her caring heart and understanding what is best for him. I recently took my female cat in as she was showing signs of bladder infection. They were great to work me in after hearing her symptoms. Dr. Schrock did a great job explaining what was going on with her and very gentle. I am very happy how all the staff and doctors handle my fur babies! read more

I love this vet. I took my puppy and another dog here for shots and just general health. they were helpful, they eased my dog's anxiety. They gave us a welcome packet with freebies in it. Dr. Hemmer is great. I really feel like she cares for my animals. She has even called to follow up. I don't know where to begin. I have adopted lots of hard to place shelter animals. I fostered then adopted them. They all have issues. They have been so great with all of their different problems. One was hospice and when I had to put her down, it was such a bittersweet experience. It was nice we could leave out a side door. The front desk can be a bit chaotic, but Dr. Hemmer has been the best with my cats and I love her communication and help trying to help these animals feeling better. read more

I would recommend Three Trails to anyone looking for a vet in the Independence area. I specifically have my dog see Dr. Hemmer, who takes her time to make my dog feel comfortable and calm during her appointments. My dog needed ACL surgery on both legs and Dr. Hemmer took the time to explain the surgery, the healing process, and what the follow up appointments would be like. Three Trails has a specialist in ortho surgery (Dr. Novak) who comes to their clinic to perform the surgeries my dog needed. She was also amazing and even gave me her personal cell number to send pictures of my dogs healing incisions. I've seen 4 different vets in the KC metro and I am so happy to have finally found one I can trust! read more
