Each time I've been here I've managed to come home with something fun and reasonably priced. I like that this place goes booth by booth. A Touch of Mystery is the most authentic antique shop I've ever visited. Despite having an…read moreunassuming exterior, the interior of the shop is full of weird, random and eclectic artifacts from 19th century paintings and ancient magazines to twenty year old Coke (still in sealed bottles) and unwrapped 1950s Slinkys. Unlike many antique vendors who sell faux items that look the same - mostly ugly statues and new lamps designed to look antiquated - A Touch of Mystery sells items which look like they haven't been touched in decades (old fishing poles, books and Colonial era farming tools to name a few). The layout of the store is refreshingly chaotic with toys, ceramics, glass products, and hundreds of other items sprawled out with no discernible organization in their display or presentation. All of the antiques are underpriced with no item being more than $100 or so; most range between $5 and $20 dollars. It's a store that isn't particularly trying to sell you anything - it exists in a state of complete stasis: if you walk in and see a gem, you can buy it, but there's no aggressive sales, flashy tags or ornate exhibits to otherwise force a purchase from you. The gentlemen who own the place will frequently give you discounts when you go to ring up your items. On the two occasions I've gone to A Touch of Mystery, they charged me slightly under the actual total of the items I picked out. Bottom line: A Touch of Mystery is a real antique shop in a sea of pretenders. It's worth checking out.

It is a nice place tucked away in the corner of a small strip shopping center. Each time I have gone in I have been greeted by staff. Including this Sunday. I tend to walk around shops such as this one in a clockwise manner. That way I help avoid missing any treasures. Plus my friend Loretta has one of the first spaces in that direction. I like to take my time and admire all of the nice items. This shop carries a lot of vintage and antique items. It brings back such sweet memories. I saw many things I wanted but I have to keep in mind the want VA needs. After I took my first gander I went back to Loretta's Niche and picked out a ceramic piece that has 5 tubes and the word F A I T H written on each. Perfect to propogate some clippings. I also found a nice low profile ring at another space, and picked a nice chilled soda out of the refrigerator with items for sale. They have fresh coffee in a little room, with books etc for sale, if anyone wants a nice hot cup and they have bagged snacks for sale. An added bonus. The young lady who was working has been very pleasant each time I have visited recently. She also carefully wrapped my ceramic piece up nicely. There is honestly something for everyone in VA VINTAGE.

I spent most of my time looking through the albums, which included all genres. I've found that vintage stores have the best variety of records. The prices ranged from less than $20 to some that were almost $90. After searching for a while, I found a Gap Band album from 1983, which I couldn't wait to get home and listen to. I strolled through each aisle because I was very intrigued with all of the unique items. There was an area with pickled vegetables and canned goods so I grabbed some pickled okra and corn salsa as well. Right when I thought there wasn't more to see, I noticed a back area that included beautiful furniture, tables, paintings and other home accessories. I even saw a church pew lol! Overall, this place is a vintage paradise. You can easily spend hours in this store.
