When March came, we knew what we wanted to accomplish, and Matt Huebner was assigned our estimate. Our project consisted of a resodding installation for our front yard, cleaning out and the mulching of our flower beds. Matt didn't even need to visit our property to do the estimate, instead using satellite imagery for our property lines and work areas. Their quote was received promptly and was within our budget, so we approved the estimate and scheduled the work to be completed. We were hoping to have the project done in May but Pittsburgh weather being what it is and a rainy May, things got started on May 26 (Friday). Ben and his crew (For transparency, I'll mention that the work was subcontracted out to another local Landscaper who does most of the general landscaping for Local Roots) arrived around 9am and hoped to finish the job in one day. They worked until early evening and would have completed the job but ran short on mulch. We were fine with that because the sod was installed by the end of the day, so our yard didn't look unsightly over the weekend. The crew returned the following Tuesday to complete some mulching and only needed about an hour to finish. Things looked fantastic and the grass is growing out nicely almost two weeks later. We are very happy with what we had done.

During the call they did not give us fencing options to look at and that was the main reason we were redoing our back yard and hired them. All they did was quote us on a vinyl fence, which we clearly stated we did not want, and an aluminum fence. They did give us plant options however we clearly stated we wanted roses, a space for a hot tub to be added later and a space for a fire pit, None of which they took into consideration. As soon as the call was over I received a bill for $1200. My boyfriend and I spent time reviewing the design and overall we were not very happy. It was like they took the existing yard and added a retaining wall. They did not include several items that we asked for and quoted us for something we clearly stated we did not want. Two days later I sent an email to the company stating that my boyfriend and I were not happy with the design. I listed the reasons why and said that we would be moving on from their company. Come Monday morning and I received an email with an overdue bill for $1200 dollars. It was 4 days after the design meeting and now all of the sudden I have an overdue bill??? They did not respond to my email and ask "how can we make this right" or anyway to fix it they just sent an "overdue" bill that I got 4 days earlier. They quoted us over $170,000 for our design, which we were going to pay with a few design changes, and they didn't even ask HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS RIGHT? I do not recommend this company.

Mike and Cory outlined various options and were honest with what is necessary (for both effectiveness and code), even as I asked about options which would allow them to increase their quote. Honest and trustworthy. Very patient with my questions, centered around undiagnosed/unresolved issues after prior visits from TWO other plumber/drain companies. Attentive from the get-go. Issue was that our outside drain was clogged, somewhere away from the house, fed by water from 2 downspouts and a sump pump. No one else could determine where the clog actually was. Yet water spewed out of a downspout connection whenever the sump pump turned on. The OTHER companies prepared large quotes for work they weren't confident would even fix the clog...which they couldn't locate even with GPS. Other quotes involved tearing up concrete along the entire side of house and some of driveway. Pgh Drain Guys have equipment to do what the others quoted, but instead hand-dug a trench next to existing sidewalk and only cut out one 10-inch portion of concrete for a new pipe to cross the sidewalk. They quoted what was necessary, not what would bring the highest cost. Thousands of dollars saved by Mike and Cory's honesty and ingenuity. Thousands. They visited, diagnosed and quoted on a Sunday. We accepted on Monday. They arrived to both start and finish the job on Wednesday. Pgh Drain Guys finished in one day, while the others would still be busting up concrete for no necessary reason.

This combination is very rare; it shows why Miller is so successful and has multiple jobs always lined up. I was worried about them rushing my job due weeks of rain delay, but I had nothing to worry about. Only improvement could be more communication, but they know the jobs and if you ask about what to expect, you'll get a solid response; owner is a man of fewer words. Hard working and focused on the customer, not making an extra buck. Good prices. Also, took care of numerous small items and was flexible with scope changes on the fly.

Consummate professionals to the highest degree, I don't think we could have asked for a better outcome to what started off auspiciously. We had originally hired another contractor to complete several jobs at our house including demolishing our old railroad tie retaining wall and rebuilding it with Versa-Lok, a concrete porch extension, general landscaping including grading, and building Versa-Lok raised beds around our house. Said contractor started the job, and left the house in shambles for 3 months, not responding to any of our phone calls and effectively taking our money and running, while demanding we give him more money to break contract. Given it was nearing October and we were concerned about water leakage into our basement with the partly-completed work that had been done, we stated looking for other contractors to complete the job. Tom came out 2 days after we called for an estimate, and he had the estimate back to us 3 days later. Price-wise, Tom was actually the lowest price to complete everything, and it was complete work - other contractors couldn't do everything we needed done. When we hired him, he gave us a start date and deadlines that he was spot on with and was communicative during the whole process. Several days into the job, while working on some of the grading, he noted foundational issues and worked with us to get them fixed by adding a french drain system and retarring our foundation. Tom and his crew were able to get all of the original work done (including removal of the detritus the first contractor left behind, and fix his mistakes) plus the foundational work in a little less than 3 weeks. Everything was awesome - I don't think there is enough I could say about how good of a job Tom and his crew did. The precision, quality, cost, speed, and responsiveness is unbeatable. If you need someone to do concrete work, landscaping, or plumbing, you need to call Tom. He'll give you an honest, fair assessment, and if you hire him, you will not be disappointed.

I hired Sipes and Son because they have been in business since the year 2000, they perform the services that I needed, and because they had excellent reviews on other websites such as the Better Business Bureau. The work was performed over about one month, because some of the work was for the exterior of my house, and the weather in January and February was snowy. Four workers came to my house off and on, and all of them were very courteous and professional. I feel very happy with the quality of their work. I expect the brick pointing and sealing to prevent rainwater from damaging my bricks and foundation. The pipe column and drywall were my husband's idea, and they probably were not necessary, but at least we can have peace of mind that our floor will always be sturdy.
