Hoover bags, they have been on the shopping list for the last 6 weeks and I keep forgetting them…read more Passing through Monkstown today I pass the hoover centre and thought I'd just get it over with. I spied a vacuum cleaner in the window that looks pretty similar to the one at home...well, it's the same colour anyway, so I confidently stride in and request a bag of bags. The lady behind the desk takes one look at me and asks "are you sure it's the same hoover?" I admit they are similar but cant be sure, she patiently explaing that colour is not the best basis on which to get hoover bags and perhaps I had better take note of the model number. Duly chastened I thanked her and left. And to be honest that impressed the pants off me, instead of going for a sale at any cost the lady in there was more than willing to try to educate me so that I would come back with the correct info so that I would get what I actually needed. A shop that takes a little pride in what they do, many could take lessons from them, They don't just sell hoovers and associated bits, they also sell kettles, toasters, batteries and for some reason lamps made of colanders (really, I took pictures.... See attached!).

When I watched John Carney's 'Once' I automatically assumed this was the Hoover shop in question, I…read moremean, if I was the location manager it would have been, there's not a more memorable hoover shop in Dublin. They definitely know this too, using their notable yellow shop front as their web page template. In fact, you should really check out they're web page for the groovy old photographs of the, sadly, now deceased founder and all-round, rock-n-roll, hoover show-man extraordinaire, Joe English. The company is now run by his son and, despite playing a great underdog, I was as astonished as David D to find that they are basically the most successful hoover related company in Dublin. Amazing. I like this hoover place, the more and more I think about it, as soon as I have some floor, I'm going to the Carrick Hoover Centre for my hoover. I've always thought those Henry hoovers seem pretty good, I think I'd probably get one of them.

I walked in and a teenager told me the suit wasn't ready. When i told him he had said to me it would be ready in the morning at 'any time', he questioned why i was getting worked up about it and that it was 'only a suit'? A girl arrived in and heard him and told me to come back later as 'it isn't ready - get over it - come back later'? I rang the owner up when i got home to try and get some sort of civil response and he told me to get over it - and that if i wanted the suit it was ready now???? This place is a sickening reflection of customer service

Not sure why no one has come up with an idea like this before - it's one of those ones that's that…read moregood, you kick yourself for not coming up with it. Pulling out a bathroom and putting a whole new one in is expensive and pretty messy. What if you could have the same effect but for waaaay less hassle and money? Chris comes in, re-grouts the place and does whatever is necessary 'cosmetically' so it actually looks brand new shampoo. I was moving out of my rented place at the weekend and had to get a sink replaced (the tap fell off and cracked the bowl in a bizarre poltergeist-like move). Chris was in and out in a couple of hours, after replacing the sink, and re-grouting the area all around it. It looked absolutely perfect, and is a testament to his work style - he seems to be a perfectionist and will go above and beyond to make sure the place is gleaming before he leaves. He hit on a few plumbing problems when he was in the middle of the job that he also took care of, swiftly and easily. What I liked most about him though was that he was honest about the work that needed to be done, not pushy at all, and definitely great value - not out to rip anyone off. All in all a brilliant idea and service. Just wish I'd thought of it! Back to the drawing board so...!
