Sometimes you can forget what a traditional pub is supposed to be, and then you visit somewhere like the Three Horseshoes and it all comes rushing back. My parents brought me here to watch some free music and so something a little bit different with our Bank Holiday weekend together.
It was a little bit difficult to find - there are two high streets in very close proximity - but once we'd found it, it was easy to park up in the large car park and head in for a drink. It's very much a 'if you're not a local, the music is going to stop playing' kind of place but, hey, it's always worth going out of your comfort zone once in a while. Once we'd been chatting to the landlord and a couple of regulars it's fair to say we were a touch more relaxed. Or perhaps that was the bottle of wine.
The music itself was really good, if a bit disturbed by some chatters in the back room; as it's free, it's fair to say some people were just here for their Saturday evening drinks, and fair enough really. Just something to be aware of. The crowd was otherwise a combination of die hard fans and newbies (guilty, as charged) so there was a good, appreciative atmosphere throughout.
Drinks were cheap enough, with a bottle of bud for around £3, and the bottle of white wine was better than expected. They had a few beers on draught but nothing to my taste, and spirits are also available.
All in all, a good traditional pub. Not much more to say than that. read more
