Maryland Food Bank thrives off of weekend volunteer hours for packers in their conveyor belt area to box canned goods and boxed foods as they'd otherwise have to bill these hours to payroll. I enjoyed myself and even got in a little cardio as the belt moved more and more foodstuffs through. I was in charge of canned veggies and boy were there lots of them. It was a good time and I can't wait to go back!

This organization offers a wide range of programs for children of all ages. Most importantly they have programs for kids beyond treatment. For example, they offer support programs ranging from tutoring, art therapy, nutrition, oncology parent support groups. Cool Kids offer so many opportunities to engage with their members but also for members to interacted with each other. Majority of the kids in the program are immunocompromised so they must limit the number of interactions they can have so they don't fall ill. Cool Kids offers virtual event as well as in person ones. I really love this organization! The 2nd half of our trip consisted of viewing snakes and various animals within the indoor space. The bathroom facilities were spacious and family friendly. There is also enough space for kids to walk around and to play with puzzles and toys. I noticed a play area with hoola hoops etc, which is a nice addition for bigger kids. We will add this place to our monthly rotation.

This is a great place! I had just turned 33 when I found out I had breast cancer in 2014. I was…read moremarried, with a 3 and 4 year old. No place would help us. As much $ as we had donated in the past to the cancer society they turned their backs on us and would offer no help. I found out about H.O.P.E. and they jumped in to help us. They gave me free hats, a wig, a chemo blanket and other things that I could use. They let me use their books and I learned a lot. When my chemo stopped and I started to grow my hair back I was able to donate the items back so they could use it for other people who need it. We still keep in touch with HOPE and they will always be part of our family. They are true blessing!

I stopped by this Goodwill while thrifting in the York area. It was about a month ago after…read moreChristmas. It's located in a small, kinda rural strip mall. Parking was ample. I'm a huge fan of thift and purchase things for my family almost exclusively used. This was the first time at this location and it was similar to other locations in PA, although on the smaller side. What really surprised and disappointed me most about this store is the sheer number of customers inside, especially in such a rural area. I'm sure they were well above the recommended covid era occupancy. It was hard to social distance, especially in the housewares dept where everyone was basically on top of everyone else. For that reason alone I didn't shop as long as I wanted, but will say the houseware section was quite impressive. Employees were pushing around the large wheeled bins to restock which further compromised available space. Honestly no one except myself seemed concerned about social distancing, in line or while shopping. I actually had people reach over me for things on the shelf.......way to close, respect my space people!! Pricing however was all over the place, some items I felt should be priced higher were low, while other items higher than I'd be willing to pay for thrift. There wasn't a whole lot of pricing consistency. Also what was their "toy dept" had misc items mixed in, probably because of space issues, but if you were looking for something specific you did need to check all non-clothes isles. While I didn't buy any the linens were nice and all appeared newer. Larger art and frames where leaned against the wall in the corner. Customers for the most part were masked but not 100%. Many didn't cover those noses, as didn't the cashier. The check out line was pretty long and ran almost to the back wall on the day of my visit, partially blocking a few rows. I brought my own cart wipe and can't remember if any were provided. I did walk out with a few items, a water jug for my fridge, 2 larger action figure toys for $1.99, and a cute little planter good for my succulents. The only specials they were running with loyalty was military. Worth checking out if you're in the area anyway (Shrewsbury market isn't too far) but not worth the drive there specifically, although there is a consignment shop next door (see review for Finders Keepers).

The prices aren't amazing but they are great compared to most other goodwills and thrift stores today. I'm actually able to find really good deals and a large amount of my closet is from this store. The place has lots of stuff so it can be slightly unorganized when they are moving stuff around, but generally very clean and organized. The employees are nice if you treat them well. All you have to do to get a good response is to ask the question nicely. I thought that was common sense but apparently not.
