As a girl who has a considerably heavy wardrobe (not that I've ever tried to lift it!) I am always using places like this to get clothing I've bought in charity shops in and up (mostly up, I do like short shorts!) and bags repaired etc. The staff here offer an excellent speedy service which doesn't compromise on the quality of the alterations. I'd been tipped off that they were the 'go to' people in town for turning up jeans which apparently is trickier than it sounds. Something to do with the back of the leg having to be longer than the front, fine on other fabrics but unforgiving on denim. The pleasant lady took the order, I mentioned my concerns and she assured me I'd be no less than delighted with the results. As I was in before noon she said I could pick them up later that afternoon which was a pleasant surprise. Hey presto...back later and the job was done. A very good job too, spot on fit though I felt the £5 charge was a bit steep, I suppose I maybe paid for the quick turn around. Pros: Quality work. Cons: Pricey

Take them any kind of alteration and they'll have it done in a day or two and done really well. They can do pretty much anything and will take your garments from you either already pinned or will take you into the chainging room and pin you into your dress or whatever to make sure that the measurements are exactly right. I had a formal dress altered in this way and it turned out perfect - fitted exactly and the stitching was billiant. They have also done a small job for me free of charge which I thought was fab. Ladies of the Zip Yard, I salute you.

I'd already been told about the merits of the Zip Yard by another friend so the company should congratulate themselves on how well they are going down with all and sundry, mostly women who need this sort of service. All I can do here is join the chorus of previous recommendations. The job I required was new zip to be put into a skirt that I'd bought with a broken one for £3.00 in a New Look sale. True to their word, the Zip Yard had the skirt ready for me on the day they said they would. It cost £7.00, so I ended up getting a nice skirt for £10.00 in the end. Good result.

That was silly from my side but as a wedding shop in Lisburn road recommended me this place I trusted the woman who attended me. At that time I also ask for ironing, a normal service already included in any party dress that needed alteration but I just wanted to make sure. After a month of not hearing anything I called the shop and gave my details. The same woman was confident that she did gave me a ticket and she did sent me a SMS. I did not want to argue, I just wanted my beloved dress. Then I noticed that it was badly ironed, probably it was never ironed .....I did raise this point and this woman insinuated actually that it was my fault saying that it's been hanging a month. Anyway,I left but still quite unhappy in the way I was treated. She charged me 20£ with no hesitation and of course never an apology. So I returned and expressed my concerns. I said if you do that job in any other professional place it's a 24 h job and the dress would be perfectly ironed. I said thank you and tried to leave, and this woman grabbed my arm and explained in a non amicable way her reasons. It was not an ironing provider, my dress was not ironed from the beginning. That is why I asked her when I left the dress. ......And surprisingly she did not object. Lastly she told me that she spent 3 hours on my dress and she had to pay the rent of the shop etc......Surreal, I thought, if I was a business woman I would treat my clients well so they can bring me more. Not exactly the opposite. But now she has 20 £ which were undeserved and I was upset, her loss. I'll find a better place somewhere in belfast.

My mum would bring my school uniforms to this place to get the trousers taken up so I looked my shiny best for the first day back. Their prices are always some of the cheapest in town and they usually get the work done in one or two days, which is just what you need. They also offer more complex alterations for dresses and full suits which do cost a little more, but are done to a very high standard.

The lady doing my alterations had a very pleasant manner and was very professional..she has lots of experience in professional alterations and making clothes. I tried my dress on and she pinned it in all the places that needed taking in whilst I looked in the mirror at the perfect fit beginning to take place! Left it with her and picked it up the next morning, super fast and great price. My dress is stunning, absolutely perfect for my body shape. I am delighted! Every girl needs a good seamstress that she can trust. I'm a firm believer in having clothes…read morealtered so that they fit you perfectly, and Zips and Rips is where I take mine. Over Christmas, I left in two dresses. Being measured took no time at all, they made a note of what I wanted done, and didn't take too long (given that it was Christmas and therefore insanely busy everywhere!) to finish the job. I was thrilled with the results too. They took two dresses that were good and made them great, and I feel fantastic in them! I have no problem recommending these guys, since I trust them completely.

I had to go to a funeral and because of my dedication to buying clothes…read morethat don't fit me, I had to get trousers turned up and due to my disaster-filled evening where I pricked myself more times than I care to admit, I eventually give up and brought them to the Zip Yard the next day. Not only did they turn them up in the space of an hour or two because they weren't busy, they also didn't make me feel embarrassed that I had spent an evening mauling Primark's finest trousers. Whilst wondering frantically down the Lisburn Road, I found this place. To my awesome sense of relief they had a one hour service, which was just perfect for me. I went a little bit down the road to Roast Coffee (review coming up) and chilled for a bit whilst they got to work. They zip they put on, wasn't the same colour as the previous one,but frankly I think it made the jacket look a little better. Go them.
