I worked for Enercon for about twenty years and now that I've put several years of retirement…read morebetween then and now, I'll offer an opinion. It's a good company, particularly if you want to do nuclear plant work. Although Enercon has branched out into other engineering areas, contract work for numerous nuclear plant utilities is their main gig. They have several offices around the country which serve clients on a regional basis. The Kennesaw office (Atlanta) is the largest and hosts the corporate headquarters. Transfer between offices is common so your chances of relocating are good if that's what you want. The company also has quite a few employees in staff augmentation positions at various client sites. In terms of work environment, Enercon is fairly people-oriented and encourages a somewhat casual but professional environment. It's an employee-owned company and thus offers a healthy stock distribution program (ESOP) as well as quarterly gainshare, assuming a profitable quarter. Base salaries are competitive in the industry. Enercon is a large company but not the largest player in the field so they have to offer attractive pay packages to keep people happy. The company also hires non-regular employees on a temporary basis. Expect to work with highly qualified and motivated people, and expect to be regularly evaluated against that standard. The negatives? In my time, there was quite a bit of unpaid overtime required. If a project was over budget or behind schedule, the folks assigned to that project often bore an unfair burden of getting the balance sheet above water. This is not unusual in the industry though. Expect to sacrifice some weekends. There's also a lot of travel, generally short three or four day trips to client sites but also longer trips, sometimes with short notice. You're expected to travel on your own time, getting on a plane Sunday to be there Monday morning for example. Overall, I left Enercon with a positive feeling. Lots of trials and exasperation over the years but mostly it was a good experience.
