Basic hotel in a great area that is walkable to all you want to see that serves a decent breakfast…read morein the morning pretty much sums up this hotel. Is it lux? No. But the water pressure is good, the beds are comfortable, the wifi works and I loved that the window opened so I could get fresh air at night. The breakfast is meats, cheese, rolls, yogurt, cereals, etc. It was a delight to go down in the morning and enjoy the fare with a cup of coffee. There is a small elevator (2 people max) that will get you between the floors or you can go up and down the staircase in the back. If you plan to arrive after 9pm, you need to call the hotel before that time so that they know you are coming and will give you instructions. We had no problem as we arrived in the afternoon, but others in our group got to the hotel late and the door was locked and the "emergency number" on the door was not picked up. Not a great start to your vacation so let them know if you will be late as this is a small hotel and not open 24/7. Not fancy but you can't beat the location!

The surrounding area: *extremely centrally located in the Altstadt; the Marienplatz, 'Vikki' and the Sendlinger Tor Strasse are all the immediate area. *if you're a jogger, then you'll enjoy knowing that the Isar, along which one may run, is about a five minute jog from the hotel. *good grub and coffee all fairly close by: http://www.yelp.com/biz/trachtenvogl-m%C3%BCnchen http://www.yelp.com/biz/aroma-kaffeebar-m%C3%BCnchen#query:Trachtenvogl The above fare is just a small sampling, btw. The hotel itself: *room was fairly compact, tidy and clean, but possessed seemingly little insulation. We could hear 'klar und deutlich' any and all footfall, passing conversation and the like through our hotel room door. *no wee creams or soaps which with to fill your toiletries bag. ;) The dual-purpose, liquid soap in the shower was suspiciously called 'top line'. The hubs wasn't keen on using it, so we bought some cheap-o, German shampoo and used that instead. *fairly friendly staff; one of whom, a young woman, helpfully gave us directions to this and that, but, upon asking her about Schumann's in the Odeonplatz, she very honestly said that she doesn't frequent the area as it's way out of her price range. I get where she's coming from, but I don't think I would have mentioned that bit to visitors unencumbered, seemingly, by price restrictions to the degree that she is. *cute-looking breakfast area; we repeatedly went to Trachtenvogl for brekkie, so I can't tell you if the 7 Euro grub is good, but I'd imagine it's fine. I think if we were to score the 'appartement' on the top floor to stay in, then I'd definitely return to Hotel am Vikki.

Lobby bar is nice - breakfast is lackluster, as others have mentioned. IF your time here includes subway and /or trains, then it is an ideal location. *They also have valet parking. Close by are numerous souvenir shops, a pharmacy, small restaurants, a Coffee Fellows, plus one of the stops of the Hop on Hop off bus is about 4 blocks away. WARNING: The bathroom faucet is a tad different from most sinks. The LEFT one determines whether you want COLD or HOT, nothing else. The RIGHT one determines the amount of water. Being as most of us turn to this one first.... BE CAREFUL because it comes out full force HOT. Can't understand why Marriott doesn't have a small sign on the sink delineating the two valves. P.S. It's a quite large hotel, and the hall/room are formatted in a square, with the inside rooms having a view of a courtyard. So once you get off the elevator, you may have a long haul of turning multiple corners to get to your room. *Even as Marriott Titanium Members, we did not get any upgrade!

We even took a trip to Salzburg from here. The breakfast buffet was spendy at 42 Euros, but we had it "Included" in our room. Made to order omelets, these awesome herring roll-ups with a pickle inside and tons of bread, The pretzels were hit or miss, as half the time they were not that good. Lots of Nutella if you want it and pastries were plentiful. The room was clean and they did forget to replenish our washcloths a few days, boo. We hardly turned on the TV, but the screen was a large one. The staff was awesome and super helpful whenever you needed it. You can walk to Old Town in about 15 to 20 minutes and Munich is a wonderful city to visit.
