I have a sore head. It's not good but it's the price you pay for a great night out. Ruby Lounge…read moretotally exceeded expectations. Me, planning, making a decision is a rare thing. My suggestion was actually a hit. I did my indecisive alterego very proud. There are many quality club nights organised by the Lost and Found name and this was no exception. Dance off, being £1 entry, sold it for me. Doubles for £3, a range of sambucas £1.50? Messy. Dance off saw a battle between three major DJs, strangerways, good vibrations and juicy DJs playing a mix of Joy Division, The Temptations and Dr Dre. Amazing combination. Ruby Lounge is renown for it's quality club nights and live music. The venue is perfect, with an adequate dance floor, a stage to match and plenty of seating on a slightly raised level for a chill out. Another great Northern Quarter location that needs to become a regular thing for me.

I think this might be a strip club. In fact I'm pretty sure. Well, it wasn't when I was in the Ruby…read moreLounge last night for a Lost and Found gig which is why I felt comfortable to take my boyf in with me. The gig was billed as The Cribs Aftershow but it was basically just a gig- most of the spectators were either in one of the four bands, looked like they should be or were girl groupies who were way too impressed with themselves that they were getting backstage. The sofas and high backed armchairs in the main bar area were nice touches, there were a few mirror balls around too. Plus velvet curtains - hello, strip club? Then you turn to the grimy stage area with the big grill up between the bands and the crowd. That said, no one went past the pillar anyway. Too cool to stand right at the front. Alright drinks prices - get some of their cheap vodka mixers or flavoured sambucas otherwise you'll run out of money quickly. After the bands they had Gareth Brooks from Xfm DJIng but we didn't end up staying.

I'm only as perturbed as I am under the illusion that finding a place that was once owned by Johnny Depp means I'm now married to him. Okay, so this particular Viper Rooms wasn't owned by Johnny Depp but it shares the same name. That is close enough for me. Now will it live up to expectations? Well actually yes it does. It's housed in a Grade II listed building and inside they've spared little expense. We're talking four bars surrounded by multiple rooms and a mad mix up of music as well. You'll get anything from disco to Hip Hop. It is beautiful, it really is. A special mention goes out the centre piece chandelier and quite awesome (not to mention comfortable) leather sofas throughout. To get you in the mood and your disco shoes raring the drinks menu will blow you away. It beats some clubs I've been to with a huge selection of cocktails, wines, fizz and beer. This is grade A stuff. It may be a little mainstream for some people's tastes but just go with the flow and enjoy the venue if nothing else.

It's ok as clubs go but had 3 permanent cocktail and drinks menus on the wall but didn't have any…read moremilk to make several of the cocktails!! Milk for heavens sake- not exactly difficult to come by is it?! Also Jägerbombs and several other drinks similar were advertised but they didn't have any shot glasses..in a club.. It all unfortunately shows a couldn't care less attitude on the part of the management.

Started around ten years ago, Chibuku was a perfect antidote to the post-Cream, funky house phaze that had gripped the city and was leading Liverpool down a dane music cul de sac. Breaks and beats were the order of the day, a far cry from what was on offer elsewhere through the city and the night soon started attracting the type of leftfield DJs rarely associated with the Liverpool scene. Not only has the night expanded to a permanent residency within The Masque Venue but hosts all nighters at the much bigger Nation nightclub and can be found hosting slots at festivals around Europe, so too has their musical spectrum in keeping with recent trends and tastes. Recent DJs have included Annie Mac, Erol Alkan and Digitalism to ensure an eclectic mix.

OK lean in and listen closely- forget The Warehouse Project and Sankeys, don't even speak to me about Area51, the best club night of your little north west lives lies in wait just 30 miles along the M62. Without a doubt Chibuku is the best thing that's ever happened to me whilst wearing both shoes. On par with Fabric in London and anything clubbing capital Leeds has to offer, Chibuku must be experienced to be believed. Named after a famous beer milkshake in Malawi Buku was started up for £40 by some students revolting against how corporate and dull the 1990's "super clubs" had become. It's ethos was simple- fun and stupidity, and though it has grown into something of a behemoth itself these days, its unchanged ethos has ensured it has remained pretensions free. Dancing in the main room which is an old theatre with the seats ripped out is an experience like no other. The stepped floor creates an ampitheatre-like effect where everybody has a view of that nights superstar DJ. Meanwhile upstairs in the loft chillout area many a mystical sage can be found dispensing hops fueled wisdom to a wide eyed throng of strangers. Buy your ticket. Turn up. Expect life changing results.

The music is generally mediocre, and the atmosphere is dead on most nights nowadays, but is booming on certain nights. Friday Fury and certain live gigs, bring the crowds from the uni, and make it a fun, albeit stuffy place. The no-drinks on the dance floor rule is heavily enforced by burly bouncers, and they are very quick to chuck people out. So that part is never fun. Can be up to £4 to get in, unless you come when the doors are open and the place is empty. Bar service is the slowest in Lancaster, and you can spend forever queuing and being pushed around when trying to order a drink on a busy night. So pick your night carefully, and have fun. Because at least you don't have old balding single guys staring at you all night.

The only salvation of this club is that the staff are pretty fantastic, and the service is quick as well! The 3 stars I give is 100% due to the good quality of the service and has NO relevance to the place itself! And it's owned by Lancaster University Student Union? You'd excpect better from the student union of one of the best unis in the UK! Then again maybe I'm bias because I'm UCUM! (that's University of Cumbria, for those who didn't know).
