Based over two levels, the bottom floor is decorated like a Moroccan cave and upstairs is more of a quiet chill-out area for those who want to escape the sweaty dancefloor. The basement level, known as The Sink has a completely different mood, more of a club party atmosphere with a huge sound system. They host DJ's and live music throughout the week. Then there's another area, known as the Fish Tank which is really chilled but still has a decent variety of music, just not as "clubbish". Make sure you check out the website before heading down for a night out because sometimes it is ticket only entry which can be a bummer if you didn't know. Also, there can often be a big queue to get in, so expect to wait and even be turned away at the door if you don't look smart enough. Its 24 hour licence makes it extremely popular after hours so your best bet is to get in early.

Downstairs hosts various music events and is split into the main dancefloor area, with a stage and elevated DJ box, where you can hear anything from drum & bass to disco; and the fishbowl, which has more seating and a different atmosphere once again. The Magnet has been going since 1958 and was one of the city's first black venues, and you can still see evidence of this today. It is a club that has remained faithful to its roots, and always puts music and a chilled atmosphere top of its list of priorities. Whether its a stop-off on your way into town or a late night whistle-wetter, The Magnet is definitely the place to be!

The rink itself is small, has pillars in the middle and the floor is bumpy throughout. This makes it dangerous for learner skaters who are going slow as they suddenly find themselves going uphill and inevitably fall over. The skates available for hire are uncomfortable, cheap and nasty. They could have spent a little more on the skates and had much better quality. The drinks are expensive and the range of drinks at the bar is very limited. This could have been an excellent place but instead is a big let down and a waste of time and money.

I love the sheer retro beauty of a place like this, an establishment which has no right to be around in the modern age but survives on pure nostalgia. To be honest this place is not great it is nothing more than a laugh as a whole and something you have to take with a pinch of salt. If you remember not to expect to much then you will probably have a good time. So on the whole a nostalgic piece of fun, but it gets a bit tiresome after a while as you would expect with such a repetitive activity. There's a reason that places like this died out but it is nice to see that somewhere is still giving it a go.

The outside of the club is pretty garish with loud colours, this might set you into a false sense of security as I don't think the interior has ever seen a lick of paint. Cleanliness just doesn't exist in here, there are very rarely seats on the toilets, the place is just generally grimy and the smell is absolutely inexplicable! There are three independent floors, each with a separate genre of music and its own DJ and completely different clientele, in theory with something for everyone. Even though it seems I've given the Krazy House, the only way I can justify my 4 stars is if you go. It is basically a disgusting place of wonder where you have to go at least once in your lifetime.

Its a lifetime ago, and you may wonder why I keep going back after all these years. Well my reasons are as follows: 1- There is no other decent rock club in Liverpool. The city centre is full of indie and dance nights, but none of these come close to a rock night. 2- The drinks are still inexpensive after all these years. The 2 for 1 offer has long stopped, but the value remains. You can still get a bottle for about £2 and a shot for £1.50, which is unusual in a city centre club. 3- The people are welcoming. The Krazyhouse generally has a good atmosphere, particularly on the 1st floor. There are no bad attitudes here. It doesn't matter if you're a teenager or middle aged, as long as you're here to have fun then people accept you. 4- There are 3 different dance floors, with different types of music. Generally the first floor has the heaviest music, the 2nd is more indie type music, and the 3rd floor is cheesy chart music. 5 - There are areas on or near each floor where you can chill out. You can get away from the dance floor and chat to friends. 6 - The entrance is cheap. It usually only goes up to about £5 late on a Saturday night. 7- There is a good presence of security milling around to ensure that if there is any trouble, it is stopped immediately. 8 - There is a cloakroom on the 3rd floor so you don't have to dance round your coat or chance shoving it behind a speaker. 9 - There is a snack bar which offers burgers, hot dogs, chips, veggie burgers, pot noodles, soft drinks and sweets. The food is cheap and cheerful and always hits the spot. 10 - The club has regular all nighters which last till 6am. This sort of night is rare unless you go to a dance night and usually you have to pay a lot of money to get into one of these nights. Even when it isn't an allnighter the club is open till 4am.

The decor is shabby the toilets are awful and it is a sweaty and crowded mess at times but this is all part of the appeal. If you are a student searching for a hedonistic night of heavy drinking during the week then you could do alot worse than visit Blue Angel. The entry fee is two pound and various selected drinks are only a pound each, the speciality however is fat frogs a lethal mix of alcohol which is bright green and is a ridiculously cheap £3.00 for two pints! The music in Blue Angel is pure cheese, any anthemic and cheesy classic you can think of will be played and the crowd will love it. Another interesting note is that Blue Angel is officially the easiest place to pull in the UK so singletons should get on down there. It is not tidy or clean and it certainly isnt classy but Blue Angel is too much fun to turn down!

The Raz is one of the most awful places in town and is likely to be filled with teachers and ex-students clinging to university days as it is with students who can dance ironically to the cheesey music because it's fun and stuff! It's obviously not my thing but if you like undrinkable beverages - everyone knows never to by a pint here - and The Foundations' Build Me Up Buttercup then this is the place for you. It's just a laugh though isn't it! The Raz is more complex than I make out, however, as it dispels the idea that it is only edgey, underground clubs that create vast swathes of sweat dripping from the ceiling and rivers of urine collecting near the toilets, this cute disco friendly place beats them all hands down.

Still, I can't let my narrow opinion get the better of me, and Zoo deserves a fair trial, much as I can't stand the neon pink, the music, the VIP/celeb aspirations and the literal interpretation of its name. Nothing spells 'caged animal' more than a wannabe WAG attempting to traverse the red rope now. The decor's so modern it's gone all the way round to being tacky, but at least they have some bare brick walls, always a favourite of mine. I don't know if the zebra print is trendy or yet another nod to its name but we'll bear with that for the time being. It's very much attempting to reach the dizzy yet not exactly wonderful heights of Movida in London or Panacea in Manchester, but its cocktail and shooter menu just screams, grunts, yells Baa Bar. Toffee Tini? Chococo? Brain Damage? There's even a fricking Tinky Winky! Now I KNOW I've seen that one in Baa Bar. It's all a bit blonde, perma-tanned and six-packed for me, but if you like a bit of celeb spotting, a bit of house electro whatever, a gargantuan fish bowl cocktail, a Jagerbomb, animal print as far as the eye can see or indeed all of the above, then Zoo is worth checking out.

With its great, open doorways, you get the feeling this tacky tan-towelled kind of place wants to show off how many dancers are packed inside although it just comes off as desperate. This was the club where I also spotted my doppelganger, lurking awkwardly through the bobbing mess of bleached highlights. I moved closer in an effort to see how much he resembled me and was about three feet from him when I realised I was stood looking at myself in a wall-sized mirror. I felt like I'd been cheated, both by Zoo Bar for lying about their dimensions, and my own brain.

I can't say it's much of an improvement. This is a recent annexe to the garish, pulsing clubland of Concert Square round the corner. The interior is all trendy and that and the staff were indeed quite friendly but the customers all bear the same rough scowl that you find carved onto every head in a place like this.

The bar is nice downstairs, the first thing that strikes you is that the ceiling is full of mirror balls, which I am very jealous of. The bar staff are very friendly and are happy to suggest a drink or shot to try if you are a bit overwhelmed by the choice. They serve you quickly and efficiently, and seem to enjoy their jobs. The often remember what your last order was when you go back to the bar, making you feel like a valued customer. The drinks are cheap both in bottles and shots, sometimes being only £1 each. Upstairs consists of 2 bigger rooms, one which is often used a gig venue or for DJ's, the other has another smaller DJ box, and some tables and chairs. There is also an outside area which is excellent for the summer time. Now, no beating around the bush, the toilets are unisex. This can be a bit disconcerting at the start of your night, but you get used to it and after a few drinks you don't really care anymore. This is a great little bar, if you find yourself here be sure to try shooter bingo.

This Baa Bar on Myrtle Parade however is much better, thanks to a few reasons. Firstly, it is twice the size of the one in Concert Square and includes an outdoor seating area for the odd day when the sun decides to come out. Inside it is colourful and interestingly decorated, a welcome change from its dark, dingy predecessor. Secondly, as well as offering the usual cheap Baa Bar shots and cheap bottles before 8pm, this bar also serves Wok-It noodles, adding another string to its bow. The combination of cheap drinks, good food and a friendly atmosphere has made this a popular student haunt, despite its location away from most other nightspots.
