No English spoken and didn't know what we were ordering. Mainly retired men were there.

Great selection of beers. "Grosse schnitzels" are enormous. Excellent value for money. We dined with 8 persons plus drinks for 100 euro.

No sooner had I sat down, I was hassled by one of the three ladies who serve the drinks (and, presumably run the place) to order immediately. Two minutes to decide after, y'know, looking at the menu? No! Decide now! Repeat the process with friends as they arrived. As people finished their drinks, another of the ladies would immediately arrive to pick up the glass, demand another order and mention that if we didn't decide soon, we'd have to leave because they need the table. We weren't sitting there for hours on end and the place was very sparsely populated so there was really no reason for the incredible pushiness we were subject to. Eventually we all finished our drinks and we're about to buy another round when we were again confronted with the server's insistence that we order another round of drinks immediately or get out so, needless, to say, we got out. The main serving lady was actually (no kidding) physically pushing us out the door of their half-empty place. The time was 10:45pm and we were geared up to settle in for the night. They could have made a lot of cash out of us but, as we were made to feel so unwelcome, there was no way they were getting any more of our cash. That wonderful ambience aside, the 'live music' was essentially a dodgy karaoke guy singing by himself in the corner. The drinks menu was, shall we say, limited and the place was just generally a bit poky. Berlin has tons of great bars down the road in Kreuzberg so avoid this dog and head there.

Wish I could give this bar zero stars. The service was appallingly horrendous. The bartender yelled…read moreat our table for just using a napkin. She told our friend who doesn't drink that he had to leave the premise. We will not be back. Avoid if possible is my advice.

Even though, they call themselves a restaurant I think people come here for the bierhaus aspect. Among the dishes we tried and liked were the pig knuckles, the combo meat plate (which they strangely named as the "sauerkraut plate"), the currywurst, and the schnitzels. We thought it would be funny to try the English Breakfast at a German restaurant but we could never wake up in time for breakfast.

They were able to accommodate our group of ~15 and had a fair number of patrons were having dinner as well. Though dishes were pre-ordered I glanced at their American/British menu and made a mental note that they serve steaks here, cooked to your choice of "English," "Medium," or "Well done." I'm not sure what our order was called on the menu, but I'll refer to it as their "banquet menu plate," which was basically a two-course meal with a selection of different cuts of meat. The majority was pretty much good ol' German pork sausage, each one known from a particular region of the country. The starter salad tasted good and reminded me of the vinegar-y dressings typical to German salads (they skimped ingredients on mine though compared to all my neighbors' bowls). The main plate's largest sausage was Berlin's signature Currywurst drenched in sauce. Overall, the presence of so much meat to potato ratio would be a bit heavy for some, but it was nice to sample everything. As for my included beverage, I was excited about finally having a beer from a German tap and ordered Weissbier. To my disappointment, whoever filled my glass put the wrong stuff. I was served Helles in a Weissbier glass...wrong on so many levels and shocking for a place that should, out of anything in the world, get beer right. At least any beer is better than none, and I still chugged it. So in summary: Good food Questionable service Tip: They have free postcards for customers at the bar. They're plain, but if you want to make your friends jealous and prove you enjoyed a German beer, grab a couple and send them out!

This sits comfortably in 5th place as an all-round shit experience. Spending christmas in Berlin, I set out to find a place to have a traditional german christmas-dinner; I'm danish and a chef, so my interest is always peaked when abroad. It wasn't easy, and we ended up cooking at the flat we stayed in, but still wanted some traditional german grub. Went in on a recommendation from a lady down the street, we walked in to this very old school and charming-looking dual restaurant-bar (one room is mostly dinning, the other more drinking and smoking is allowed). We were greated, sat down and offered menus by a pleasant woman that didn't seem to understand any english, but fair enough. After the drinks arrived and the food from the pretty sparse menu had been ordered, things went a bit down hill : the waiter seemed to vanish for 20 mins at a time. Food arrived (late!) my mom had some chicken (tiny pieces that wouldn't make up for a full chickenbreast) in a bland vegetable sauce/soup, I had the breaded veal schnitzel, a classic in the german kitchen, served with "potatosalad". The chicken was dry! vegetables wet, overcooked and bland. My schnitzel had been flattened to around 1/2 cm in thickness, breaded with 2 cm of crumbs, potatosalad was limp, tasted like it came from a jar and there was no sauce. Greasy, soggy, shitty! Beer and wine was ok, but we paid 60€ for something I wouldn't have paid 30€ for, and I wouldn't have accepted, had we been back in Denmark (my dog wouldn't have eaten it, and he eats dust!) Stay away. Plain and simple, or go in for a beer at the bar, filthy as it were in there, the mood seemed cheerful.
