Learning is individualized for the student and as an inclusion school , ALL students are welcome. Teachers are caring and the principal has terrific skills working with children and their varying needs. It really is a school you need to visit to fully understand. A local private school, tucked into a small corner of North Charleston, where you wouldn't know it…read morewas there unless you were looking for it. However, this school is one of the best things to happen to our children in a long time (aside from having awesome parents). The teacher to student ratio is very low, so you know that your child is getting the attention that they need. This school is K-8, and tends to attract and serve those families who have children with special needs. Scholarship programs are available as well for families who qualify. A new principal this year is working hard with the school and community to ensure that SJCS becomes more in tune with the community and has done a lot of work to give the school a face lift over the summer. Parent involvement is high and activities are provided after school and on weekends, both for students and parents. Many children use this as a stepping stone to work their way in to local public schools, but several stay all the way through graduation to high school, and alumni often come back to help out in various ways.

They have redone some of the classrooms which are nice and pristine. They have alone updated all of the technology in the building, so it looks very high-tech and snazzy. They have a little concierge in the main area where you can buy bottled drinks, snacks, and Starbucks coffee. This is a very nice feature for when you are in between classes when you need a coffee or a little bite. However, the printers are so slow and take forever. I'd recommend going to the library instead to print things out. This is my favorite building to have my classes.

I've never been a student, faculty member, or administrator at CSU. Only you (or your high…read moreschooler) can decide if CSU is the right college for you, so I'll just share my experiences from a visitor's perspective. I visited CSU to work a track meet and had a great experience. The outdoor areas of the campus and athletic facilities are impressive, especially for a school of this size. The football stadium is modern and the track is finished for all events (including the steeplechase, with barriers and a water pit). All of the student athletes I interacted with were pleasant, polite, well-mannered, and had good sportsmanship. The student body seems diverse- many states and several other countries make up the sports teams. The coaches and administrators were also welcoming to the timing crew, track officials, and other competitor colleges/coaches. If you're visiting CSU, several hotels are conveniently located just blocks from the campus, including Wingate, Fairfield, and Hampton Inns. I would recommend staying in one of those hotels because downtown Charleston is about 20-25 minutes down I-26.
