Department of Beer & Wine is a craft beer and wine bottle shop that opened in Alexandria, Virginia…read morein August 2017. It was founded by husband and wife Jeff and Melissa Sapsford and their business partner Stevie Treichel. Jeff previously managed the Sunset Beer Company craft beer shop in Los Angeles and also worked for Norm's Beer and Wine in Vienna (VA). The Sapsfords teamed up with Treichel to open their own bottle shop that focuses on craft beer and small production wines (especially ones that are locally produced). Melissa focuses on the store's gourmet goods program and helps with community outreach programs. The shop opened in the Potomac Yard section of Alexandria to much local acclaim. In February 2025, the partners announced that they would be moving to a new location in the Del Ray section of Alexandria. The reason for the move was to offer expanded parking and to get away from construction which surrounded the original location on Richmond Highway. Department of Beer & Wine closed in March 2025 and reopened at their new location the following November. I recently visited Department of Beer & Wine while I was staying in the DC Metro area for a few days. I was looking for a place that had a good craft beer selection, and Department of Beer & Wine came highly recommended on Yelp. The shop is a little on the smaller side, but nonetheless they have an impressive selection of craft beer and sustainable wines. They even have 20 beer taps so that customers can purchase a crowler of fresh draught beer, cider, and even craft soda. I recently transitioned to a sober lifestyle, and fortunately the shop had a decent selection of non-alcoholic craft beer as well. I ended up picking out a six-pack of "Brevet IPA" by Atlanta-based Halfway Crooks Beer. I wasn't familiar with the beer or the brewery, but it had a good rating on Untappd and I decided to give it a try. I'm glad that I did because it was really refreshing! Department of Beer & Wine is an excellent battle shop and I highly recommend it to any craft beer or wine afficianados who are in the DC Metro area!

Small fortified wine section but extremely good prices and pleasant staff. Parking is in back.read more

I was going to go a little bit lower in the rating due to this. Now I was told about this place, I…read morewas an instant fan and told many about them to this day. BUT, my wife and I drove out there which is only a couple times a year, we stock up. I bought my usual case of chicken leg quarters and was SALTY!! We came from out G-burg, and when we got back, SLIM!!! them lil chicks look like something out a Chinese joint, they should have let them grow to maturity and I'm serious. You gotta take 2 maybe 2 1/2 to make one full quarter. What happen to the real ones they had before, because these things got me heated, and I couldn't take that ride back cuz I'm saved forreal, so I wasn't coming back with a smile, you feel me. Look a here, BK , Ion know what happen , who y'all trading with but this isn't right on any level. The price is still right but them immature chicks should have stayed where they were til they got grown. I'm being real nice with my review, because I wanted to drop that down to a 3 1/2. I am glad I found some turkey scrapple, y'all the only ones that got it, but do something but them birds ya hear me, don't do that or stay in that lane real talk.

BEST prices and selection/variety in my neighborhood. My only MINOR complaint is the traffic…read morecongestion getting there but that's not their fault. However, stopping today (2/16/26) on this federal holiday was not painful at all. LOVE the drive thru option but actually prefer going in because of the deals and specialty items. Just intended to pick up some Angry Orchard hard cider (bottles not cans). After a semi-dry January ... just still trying to keep things a little lighter. I'm not a regular but I will ALWAYS recommend BK Miller's. Orderly and organized and can't brag enough about the prices and selection/variety. As a matter of fact, I found Blackberry Crown Royal today (Mon., 2/16/26)! I love the Peach Crown with pineapple juice. Not sure what to mix the Blackberry flavor with (maybe lemonade)? I'll try to update my review soon.

I love this place, hands down. My story…read more.. I ordered some wine and alcohol through the Drizly app. The store calls me to tell me they didn't have that particular size in stock. Ok, cool. They get me a different size and offer to refund me the cost difference since the size was smaller. It was five bucks. I never got the refund and honestly, I completely forgot. I ordered something again today. Drizly once again offered a size that they didn't carry. I ordered it. They called. I ultimately just cancelled. I figured, fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me! The store manager calls me himself to rectify things. I told him about my last experience and he was like, OH NO!! THAT'S NOT HOW WE DO BUSINESS! He personally delivers what I ordered and hands me the money from last time. This is the basics of honest, good customer service. It's not a big deal but it's enough to put a bad taste in someone's mouth. This manager went above and beyond and they earned a customer for a very long time. Thanks guys!

Basic customer service skills dictate that employees should greet customers upon arrival. When I brought this to their attention, they explained that they were engaged in a conversation. However, they could have taken a moment to acknowledge me before continuing their conversation. Yes I know I am beautiful, but it only takes a moment to SPEAK! Additionally, the store was quite empty, which made me think that they were expecting inventory. I believe that it is important for employees to acknowledge customers, regardless of their gender. When I expressed this sentiment to the employees, they laughed, which I found unprofessional and disappointing. UGH!
