During a recent trip to Fort Lauderdale and the Oakland Park area, I found Con Calma, and they delivered on every level. Walked into a beautifully designed, spotlessly clean café. When you order, you're flanked by two display cases filled with temptation--delicious pastries on the right, and a choice of about a dozen different empanadas on the left. I'm usually not a big fan of empanadas because they're often deep-fried, greasy, and soggy. These are the complete opposite! They are perfectly baked, and the shredded beef empanada I tried was fantastic, I could have easily polished off a few more. The coffee was equally impressive and top quality. Grabbed my order to go, walked right across the street, and enjoyed an outstanding breakfast by the public beach. Highly recommended for any coffee enthusiast!

Milton recommended the chimichurri sauce, which took them to another level. I went two days in a row and got a different latte each time -- both were delicious. They also offer a great variety of coffee syrups and flavors. The staff was very friendly as well. Big Mike's Healthy Choices is a completely gluten-free restaurant with plenty of vegan options. Mike really sold me on the Vegan Western Omelette while my husband went with the Vegan Americana Breakfast. Made with a mung bean base and eggs, my omelet was filled with "bacon", bell pepper and onion, "cheese", and topped with fresh sliced avocado. I decided to swap out the sliced apple for griddled potatoes and was glad I did - they were gooood! The dish was also served with a waffle, which was crisp and delicious. Our server recommended their house-made hot sauce, which was delicious. Not too spicy, but very flavorful. This was the best omelette I've had since switching to a mostly vegan/plant-based diet. 10/10.
