I went to see Alexandra for help to quit smoking in June. it is now October and I have not had a craving or a cigarette. Context: I've smoked for 20 years at around a pack a week, and tried other cessation solutions (gum, patch, e-cigarettes, support groups, will power) and succeeded for about 2 months at most with different interventions Approach / Atmosphere: Making the appointment was easy and straightforward. At the outset, Alexandra explains what to expect and not to expect, gives you space and time to make yourself comfortable The Session: I chose a 90 minute session, and spent a good chunk of time talking with Alexandra, who asked questions to help lead and prompt my thinking and triggers and context associated with smoking. Following this, she asked me to relax and much like guided meditation helped me reach a state of hypnosis, using the basis of our conversation to guide the session The State of Hypnosis: I was not in a deep sleep or unaware of what was going on. I was completely relaxed and fully cognizant of my surroundings and Alexandra's directions and suggestions. Some of the populist stereotypes are employed i.e. using an analogy or word imagery to focus your descent/ascent into and out of a relaxed state Closing the Session: After she prompted a return to a more "awake" state, much like following an exercise routine, she suggested I take my time to come fully awake, and asked if I had any questions, feedback or general observations both on my session and her approach. The session was recorded (she asks before hand if you want this done or not) and she sent a copy to me digitally for my reference and playback. The Administrative: I went back to the front desk of the office, provided the fee. The Follow Up: For the first week or so I had acute (and shortlived) cravings that went away, chewed a lot of gum and seemed to notice "no smoking" signs everywhere. Some of the session points arose in my head to keep me on track. It may have been a combination of current circumstance, will power, or that I paid out a chunk of change for the session, but I got through that first week, and it was progressively easier since. I believe the session and guidance of Alexandra served as an excellent anchor to keep me on track. The Revisit: I went for a follow up visit (60 minutes) a month later. I didn't feel I needed it as I seemed to have a good handle on the smoking, but it couldn't hurt. Same as above except more focused on maintaining the resolve for quitting smoking. A bad habit was driving me crazy for several years and I tried downloading hypnosis mp3 files that were suppose to address it. I found they worked only temporarily. So I looked for a hypnotherapist near my work location thinking the therapy needed to be more personal to work effectively. I did a search and Alexandra's reviews on Yelp stood out by far as did the testimonials on her website. I had one session and although I never wrote a review before I was so impressed with Alexandra I had to write about my experience. She explained we had to find what happened in my past to understand what is causing the habit and that the recordings did not address that. There are old association deep in my subconcious mind that needed to be changed. I'm not the first to say it but Alexandra truly is an amazing person. I felt so at ease with her I was able to talk about painful experiences in my past that I had not discussed with anyone else. She has a way of communicating with you that makes this exploratory process flow so easily and naturally. I wasn't the least bit uncomfortable. Immediately after the session the habit was virtually gone but over the next few days since my nervous system gets easily messed up I was feeling ill at ease. Since Alexandra encouraged me to give her feedback I emailed her 3 days later and explained. She replied quickly, explained what was happening and gave me suggestions on how to cope with my discomfort. She was very encouraging and even sent me a recording for stress and anxiety which helped a great deal. I stayed in touch through emails and she is so upbeat and willing to help me. It is 4 weeks since our session and the original habit is gone. I know I need further help with my lifelong problem with anxiety and I believe she can help me so I will go back again. I am so glad I followed the advice of the reviewers and made that appointment with Alexandra. She is so very knowledgeable about how our minds work, the role of our subconscious minds in our behaviors and how hypnosis can be used to reprogram our subconscious minds to our benefit. I can be pretty lazy about writing reviews, but after glancing at Jennifer's comment about Alexandra being "too young and flaky" because her fiancé "urged her" I decided to give a fair account of ongoing therapy at Theta Spring. I also think we should do a prayer circle for Jen. No wonder she blames Alexandra for still being a smoker, when she can't even own up to her own review and blames the fiancé. *sad/concerned face* Also, ever notice the people that use the term "flaky"are usually just that? My honest review of Alexandra is after seeing her 6 or so times, because, ya' know, A ONE TIME SESSION ISN'T GOING TO HELP YOU DO JACK (unless you're really really in kick ass mode, or very easily persuaded). A fun fact is I did see a hypnotist once ages ago because I wanted to lose a few pounds, only to eat McDonald's like 30 minutes later. Looking back at who I was then, was a lazy "fix me in a jiffy" person, who a man with 50 years experience and many awards wasn't going cure; because I didn't want to change, I wanted magic. Now, I'm more of a realist. I've been seeing Alexandra for stress management and dealing with overall social issues (like finding my inner zen so I don't punch people in the face). Yes, when I walked in I noticed Alexandra was young - but this is New York City - 50 year olds can look 20, and 20 year olds (especially smokers) can look 50. So after accepting I'm at that age where professionals can be younger than me, I sat my sweet ass down to find out why my subconscious was being so naughty lately. After the first time, I felt different. And I'm naturally very guarded and non gullible. My friends immediately found my energy more open, just lighter and I was overall happier. I have a weird job where my energy gets depleted to the point where I look like an extra on the Walk Dead going home. I needed Alexandra to help me center myself, to a place where no matter how much BS, I can go there at any moment and stay collected and sane. Alexandra is absolutely amazing. I had never had hypnotherapy before my first session with her, and I really had no idea what to expect. All I knew was that I needed some serious help getting out of my depression. I was struggling to get over a bad breakup and nothing seemed to be working. Before starting the session I was a bit nervous because I had never spoken to someone I didn't know about my problems/feelings so I thought I would have trouble opening up. But Alexandra made me feel so safe and comfortable, that I was able to truly express how I was feeling and open up to her. After my 90 minute session I could not believe how amazing I felt. Immediately after walking out of her office I felt like a huge weight had been lifted. Alexandra is simply amazing. She has really been a tremendous support in my emotional and spiritual growth. This is my first time writing a review on Yelp and I created the account just for Alexandra. I was suffering with crazy anxiety and panic attacks over food allergy related issues for several months. I had been to a psychologist, gotten medication to use in severe circumstances, read a ton of books...still, I felt myself losing my mind. One day I came across hypnotherapy and decided you know what- why not. Yes, it is costly. Yes, I felt a little silly at times. I strongly believe this isn't something for everyone. But if you're one of the lucky ones to benefit, it will change your life. Immediately after the first session (I have had two so far and one more tomorrow!), I remember thinking, "Okay...I just feel a little out of it. Nothing changed." And then I went home. Vibrant and full of energy, Alexandra has helped improve my social anxiety over the last few months. I had been recommended Alexandra by a friend and was not sure what to expect as I wasn't too sold on hypnotherapy. I went to her for help with eating smaller portions and pacing myself throughout a meal. I was amazed at how quickly she put me at ease! Alexandra pretty much made me quit smoking in 1.5 hours! I am down to 1-3 cigs a day instead of a whole pack! The 1-3 cigs I smoke a day do not even satisfy me and I think its just the routine I am used to since I've been smoking for so long. As a first time user of hypnosis, I didn't know what to expect.
