I went to Dr Tlapek because I had plantar fasciitis. During the appointment, she recommended custom orthotics which are not covered by insurance. Because my feet hurt so badly, I agreed to the orthotics and paid hundreds of dollars out of pocket.
When I received them, they were hard as rocks and made my plantar fasciitis pain much worse. I quite literally could not walk more than 5 feet without excruciating pain. When I took them back to Dr Tlapek, she told me that they weren't for plantar fasciitis. I was understandably very upset as I was led to believe they would help with my pain. No other relevant foot condition requiring orthotics had been discussed at my appointment. I was so outraged that Dr Tlapek refunded me half of the cost of the orthotics and kept them. It was all she was willing to do. I never went back.
I was going to let it go and chalk it up to a lesson learned, but today, eight months later, I received an additional bill from her office. I'm infuriated. She should really have the sense to not bill me after duping me out of my money. read more
