I recently suffered a broken arm from a fall in our home. As it turned out there thirteen breaks in my shoulder. I have never had such pain in my life and my world has been turned upside down. I am not a person that is accustomed to relying on others, I am a retired Navy wife, Ombudsman and retail manager. But when I broke my arm, my self confidence was broken as well. A week after the break, I was operated on to repair the damage which was extensive, requiring pins and plates to do the repairs. After my release from the hospital, my doctor sent me to Therapy Specialists. To say I was anxious is an understatement. I have never been to any kind of therapy. At that point, I could not move my arm more than a half inch from my body without excruciating pain. From the moment I walked in the door, I felt a sense of relief. I cannot really explain it, I just felt welcomed. Everyone was so nice and supportive, and I felt that right away they sensed my concerns. They did the initial evaluation, and with each phase of checking movements and taking measurements, they remained keenly aware of my comfort level and told me again and again, to let them know if I felt ANY pain, They had no idea what an amazing relief that was to me. I did not think there was anything they could do that could be done without pain. But they were gentle and caring and were very open to answering any questions I had, They explained to me what they would be doing to help me get back to my normal range of motion and get back to my life as I knew it. And I have to say, I am amazed at how far I have come in such a short time, considering the severity of my injury.
The facility is always clean and they are diligent in maintaining it that way. They are equally as cautious about washing their hands and wearing gloves when needed.
It is not hard to find good people in any given business for the most part. And it is generally apparent as to the ones that want to be there and who love what they are doing. But few and far between are the businesses that can compare with this one.
Everyone there makes a point of knowing each patient, anticipating any needs or concerns. They are constantly monitoring each person there, to make sure that the therapy they are receiving is best combination of exercises and one on one therapy.. I can honestly say they are very open to any questions or concerns, and have a marked ability to explain them in a way that is easily understood.
I went with my Mom to therapy some years ago and the thing that sticks in my mind the most is that everyone, no exception, there, looked like they would prefer to be anywhere else.
But when you entering the building, you get see people, with different injuries, talking, sharing, being treated with compassion and caring and even those in pain, seem more at ease with what they are going through with a sense of feeling better just by being there.
I found it interesting that even those in pain, manage to carry on conversations with their therapist as well as other patients, and seemingly healing them mentally as well as physically.
Each therapist has his or her own special way of making you feel at ease, making you feel that they genuinely care.
And if all of that is not enough, they go out of their way to work with you on when you need to schedule your appointments. I cannot think of a single thing that they could do to improve what they are doing.
