The enthusiastic and cheerful waitress was straight over to tell us about the daily specials and take our orders. We decided to start with Mussels Provincal. These were presented tastefully with a delightful sauce and served on a bed of rice. Then for mains we ordered the Red Emperor with baked potatoes, brocollini, green beans and vine ripened tomatoes and The Lobster mornay with similar sides. WOW! The Mornay was a challenge to finish as there was so much and the Red Emporer was reported to be quite impressive also. Once again we requested to substitute the potatoes for more salad, the request was acknowledged and then the dish was served with potatoes regardless. I am not sure whether there is communications breakdown between the waiters/waitresses in Brisbane and their kitchen staff but this is the second venue this has happened. It would be nice to see a request followed up and not ignored. Aside from that, a nice warm atmosphere and good service made this a pleasant dining experience even though the weather outside was anything but.

The selection is more than decent where u can find usual things including dumplings, wontons and dim sims, steamed buns (or "baos"), pork ribs, roast duck, and noodles as well as cow tripe and chicken feet. They also serve up sweet dishes such as custard tarts, silken tofu in a sweet ginger syrup and other Chinese cakes and pastries. Service is as per a lot of Chinese restaurants where speed and efficiency is priority and western mannerisms/politeness is second. However, it gets the job done, u do get what u want, and (usually) with a smile. In terms of yum cha on the Gold Coast / Brisbane area, I'm sure there're probably many of other "better" places, however in terms of consistency, I don't think many of those places can keep pace. I believe it is better doing something good all the time rather than something amazing only sometimes, especially when u are taking friends/family out for a decent feed. On the weekends it tends to get crazy busy, so if u decide to try, remember to come early (like 1200), otherwise expect to wait for a table. I recommend if you're in the area and feeling for yum cha, give this place a go.

This is the larger one, the other is across the road, and while I poked my head in the door, I didn't get anything. So the pies. Yep, they're pretty good! There's plenty of seating inside and out, with a big verandah surrounding the building, and there appears to be some off street parking out the back. We nabbed one on the street though. Eating in, the pie is brought out on a plate, sauce in a little cup on the side, and if you get chips with gravy, you get fresh chips and a little cup of gravy too. The gravy was delicious, by the way. But this isn't just a pie shop. You can get chicken parma, steaks, breakfasts, there's plenty to eat here, including what looked like a nice selection of desserts. We stopped in on the way to Lamington, it's pretty much last town before you make the climb, so definitely worth a stop and this is a good place to grab a bite to eat.
