Visited just over a week ago to request alterations to my new waterproof, insulated coveralls which required legs to be reduced in length and two zips replacing. The staff member I spoke to was friendly and gave good advice in regards to the alterations that were required. The quotation was very competitive and my order to be completed within a very reasonable seven days. My order was completed within this time span and I am very pleased with the finished garment that the seamstress has achieved. Well done, I will certainly use and recommend you to others in the future. Graham H Jones read more

I returned two garments for re-repair after the stitching had come loose. The person serving had a rude and abrupt tone, and blamed my son for the stitching coming loose which was absurd. She was going to charge me for the re-repair until I explained that we had never had this problem elsewhere. She reluctantly agreed for them to redo the sewing for no charge. I found her to be very badly mannered with poor customer service. Won't be returning and would not recommend. read more

As the owner of The Zip Yard Warrington I would like to respond to the review from J.C regarding the alteration of a wedding dress. The lady called to ask if we could let out a wedding dress as it was too tight. But the dress had arrived later than expected and she needed it by the following weekend. I said I was sure we could do something, and we would need to see if there was any seam allowance to let out, and if not we could perhaps add panels if there was fabric available. When the customer came to try on, she explained that she and her future husband were having two weddings, one in the UK and one in Turkey, and this dress was for the Turkish wedding, for which they would be leaving the following weekend. We work on very many wedding dresses where like this one, the dress is mail order and often the bride - to- be has not tried on the dress or been able to do up the zip herself. The zip was stiff but looked as though it would close, but it did break. It was a flimsy zip, but as I broke it I did not charge for the zip replacement. J.C. says she was size 12 and the dress was 16. If this was indeed the case, why was it necessary to let out the dress? In fact, the dress was to small to let out sufficiently and the only way to make it fit was to take fabric from the multi layered flared skirt to make panels to put into the bodice which was overlaid with textured lace. In order to disguise the panels the floral lace patterns had to be unpicked, removed and redistributed to cover the panels. It certainly was not a case of just letting it out by an inch. I did explain it was intricate work and as such I wouldn't know the exact cost until it was finished. JC replied that as the dress was mail order and had not cost too much she could afford to spend on the alteration. We took measurements to ensure the dress would fit perfectly, and as the very nature of the work was creating a dress to fit, and all our discussion was around this subject, it was not random or insensitive to jokingly suggest JC stop eating, or what ever words to that effect. Wait gain and loss had indeed been much discussed between us. We got the dress ready for the following weekend as requested but indeed it was not collected until Tuesday of the following week. J C's husband-to -be came to collect it. £115 for a complex time consuming alteration on a wedding dress. He then called J.C. who told him that as the alteration was more than the dress had cost he should just leave it. I said no, that was not reasonable. We had carried out the work as requested and it should be paid for. I had indeed bought in part time help to complete other work in time so this dress would be ready in the time scale agreed. He called back and was told again by a very angry and vocal JC to leave the dress and leave the shop. I asked him to return and did indeed say I would make a claim through the small claims court. The dress was extensively and beautifully altered. If J.c called other seamstresses and asked the cost for letting out a seam I'm sure their estimate would have been considerably less than the true cost of remaking a flared layered skirt, adding panels to a structured bodice and hand sewing lace overlay. In fact our costs are very competitive, and this is an extremely unfair review. read more

Woman at desk (I'm assuming she's the manager) was very rude and made no effort to even have small talk, and when there was small talk it seemed very sarcastic and even judgmental on her behalf. I brought in my work uniform to be altered and she even insulted it by saying it is "an eyesore" of a colour. What kind of customer service is this?? Went to collect my items and again, not even 10 words were spoken by her. Very awkward and very rude with not even a "goodbye" as I left. Will never be returning for any more alterations. read more

Took my wedding dress to be altered as the zip would not go up, from the get go the manager was abrupt and completely uninterested and acted as though I was an inconvenience, despite the fact I had called the previous day to let her know I would be coming in. She ignored me when I told her the zip would not go up, insisted that it would and said "that's what bridesmaids are for". She forced the zip up and actually hurt me in doing so, she had to ask another member of staff to help her force it up. Of course the second they let go it burst - so they broke the zip of the dress and her answer was not to apologise or reassure me but instead to moan that it was a "cheap" zip and "poor quality". After leaving my details and I was about to leave the store, she gave me instructions to "stop eating until the wedding" - I was absolutely appalled at this extremely offensive and insensitive comment. I am a size 12 and the dress is a size 16 - my weight is certainly not the issue as I am by no means overweight. I dread to think of the impact such a careless comment could have had if made to someone who suffered with eating disorders! After going home deeply upset by this comment, I asked my fiancé to collect the dress as I had been too busy at work to collect any earlier. Having received no initial quote or even a vague idea of price, I was absolutely gobsmacked to receive a call from my partner telling me this woman was demanding £115 or she would take county court action!!! She claimed she had had to enlist additional staff and spent over half a day to let a "cheap" dress out by 1 inch and replace the zip that SHE BROKE. She also claimed that this price was due to short notice - I dropped the dress off a week and a half before I needed it - no professional seamstress would take this time to let a dress out by 1 inch and if it would have incurred additional charges I should have been advised on this from the start. Whilst I was speaking to my partner she was continuing to mouth off in the background threatening to call the police because we dared to question being ripped off! I have received quotes from several other seamstresses since this who would only have charged at a maximum £40 - less than half what this con artist has charged. Absolutely zero customer service or general basic social skills. If you use this con artist - make sure you get a written quote up front!! Absolutely disgusted with this woman - do your research and see the other terrible reviews about her, avoid like the plague I will be reporting to head office and trading standards. read more
