What a great experience indeed! This place is so peaceful and simply the PERFECT place to practice meditation. I wish I lived closer!!! :) *WORLD PEACE through INNER PEACE* Can't wait to go back and attend the *Middle Way Meditation* sessions on SATURDAYS! The Guided meditation sessions are open to ALL ages, all ethnic background s, all religions + conducted in English, and most importantly FREE of charge! Yayyyy! (",)

I am so glad that they now open for public daily. They have meditation classes everyday from 9:30 am to 8:30 pm. The teaching monks are very friendly. I'm not only learn how to meditate, but also always get some takeaway to use in my daily life. I can see that my life is happier and more positive since I practice meditation with them. Their classes are not in the main chapel, the first building you see. Go inside to the building behind and you will see their staff or the monk who is ready to welcome you. If you don't see anyone, please be patient. Their will be someone to assist you. If you live in Morgan Hill or nearby, I highly recommended you to stop by and give it a try.

When we got to the top, the sign said "closed due to construction work" but the gate was open, so we entered, and there was plenty of parking and we found several other visitors on site as well. The monastery and surrounding area were beautiful with tall trees, lots of greenery, so many buddha statues large and small, peacocks, deer, a gazebo, a restroom, areas for worship and prayer, and a dining area where we were invited to share a meal with the monks. But the place seemed lacking in maintenance and cleanliness, even considering that it was "under construction". To make matters worse, flies and mosquitos were abundant making it hard to have a snack outdoors. Also, though the animals on site added some charm to our visit, the cawing of the birds was relentless during the hour we were there. Besides that, the main draw was still the quietude in our surroundings. With the current "under construction" condition, I'm not sure it's worth the scary winding roads required to get here. That being said, it's a lovely place to visit, and I would certainly return on better days.

That means it had a lovely view of the grounds and skyline. I felt like I was at home and the grounds were very quiet as no groups were visiting - apparently this is rare. My main reason for visiting was to spend time at the Hanuman temple and take part in Aarti, which I did. The experience was altogether magical. On my third visit, I was placed in a very hot, boxed in room on the ground floor - windows on one side, a foot from a rock wall. It was an echo-chamber, meaning the three people talking loudly outside the front doors transformed my room into a stadium. I was desperate for sleep, so the combination was brutal. I was told that this is the room you are defaulted to, even if nicer rooms in the same class are available. I wish I understood why. Luckily, reservations/guest services are some of the kindest people - Quincy swapped out my keys for something quieter. I was exhausted and looking forward to sleep, but first to worship at the Hanuman Temple. When I arrived, I was surprised to find a couple of residents sitting next to it, having a business meeting. I understand many people (including residents) don't have a reverence for Hanuman or the temple in the same way devotees do, but this was certainly disappointing and made it difficult to meditate and worship in silence. I had just driven 6.5 hours, after a night of no sleep, but knew I'd find solace if I could make it to the temple. I mentioned something to a resident working the grounds around the temple (asking when said meeting would be done) and he let me know that there are always a lot of people on the grounds "here for yoga" and that it was rarely quiet, even at the temple (despite the signs asking for quiet). He then suggested I step into the forest if I needed quiet. He wasn't very sympathetic and I heard him yell to the guys something snarky about me giving them feedback. If you want to gather and worship loudly, please be my guest (Kirtan is wonderful here), but having a business meeting right next to the Hanuman muirti is unnecessary, and being patronized for caring enough to say something was about as bad as being filmed whilst standing in line to get food, again while at the buffet and throughout dinner. Please make it possible for guests to not be part of promotional shoots when you are doing them. This was such a bizarre visit. Kirtan was the saving grace. I wish the business that ran retreats was separate from the temple, or more in alignment. These are two very different worlds.
