I have been to WHQ many times, and after going again this weekend thought I would share my review. Saturday is always busy, and this is down to the funkiness and general fabulous atmosphere of the place. The resident dj/co manager plays the best of funk/soul/hip hop and this guarantees the upstairs dancefloor is always rammed. The bar staff are always helpful and friendly and the cheap drinks make it an even better night out!! I have never seen any charvers/trouble in the times I have been there, it's such a great crowd of people looking for a great night. It is open until 4am on a Saturday so you can dance the night away. My only complaint is the dancefloor being really slippy after a beer or two spilt on it, but maybe thats my footwear!! A fantastic night out! read more

My favourite club in Newcastle, this place is special. It is an alternative night out, so expect stick floors and plastic glasses. However, it is on two floors- a bar downstairs and 'club' upstairs. The club plays soul, indie sometimes even pop music- it is a very eclectic mix!! Great fun to dance to, and it often gets packed. The DJ is awful though- none existing mixing!! Zane Lowe sometimes does sets here, which are always great. Def. worth a visit! read more

Also known as WHQ, this is my favourite club in the toon and always has been. Throughout the years it has maintained its reputation as the quirky friendly hip place it is known to be. Unlike most of the other clubs in Newcastle it hasn't changed at all for some time! It's a small venue and tends to be kept very dark. It's on two floors but the ground floor only gets used occasionally for special nights. Most nights are held upstairs. You walk through the door and are welcomed by a fun upbeat relaxed atmospehere. There is a bar to your left and the dj booth with a sign infront of it saying 'Love one another' - this motto is truly felt by all- once the act commences everybody becomes best friends and faces the booth for some quality raving stomping happy times. The music is ALWAYS great and neither myself or any of my friends are known to not have had a great night at this little underground funkotheque. Unmissable! read more

A real good place if you want a fun night out. It has a great atmosphere and the drinks aren't too expensive. It's open late too. The staff are extra friendly and the queue at the a bar is never too long. I've been around Newcastle for two years and I agree with the reviewers that this place has never changed. Everyone at WHQ wants to be your friends and in the past I have made some great friends as everyone from the bar staff to the dj and the door men are willing to do everything. However its quite small and quiet dark, the floors and walls ofen get sticky too from so many people packed into some small place, but when you're really drunk you don't care about that because the music keeps you dancing! read more

hands down the best club in newcastle, but has 'suffered' from the smoking ban, as smoke in the dingy dark main dancefloor gave it so much atmosphere. cheap drinks, especially vodka based, help the night along smoothly and the tune selection of the DJs is always spot on (even though the DJs are prone to some hilarious cock-ups on the decks). the Zane Lowe nights are always packed out and sweaty but worth the visit - the place goes mental. I don't even like the guy but I've had some of my best nights on his DJ nights! read more

WHQ seems an iconic locale. Right in the middle of one of the UK's biggest part cities, it rocks to a totally different beat and is all the better for it. Don't expect groups of hens or stags and excessive drink abuse. This is a friendly and small place with good times as the only focus. Case in point of this is that the DJ on weekends also happens to be the club's owner and manager. There's a lot of love put into WHQ, and it shows. Expect to pay a bit more than usual on the weekends, but keep your eyes peeled for midweek events with top DJs and low prices. read more

Although this club can be quite hard to find the trip is definitely worth it. WHQ, as it is known, is run by the same people who run the amazing Trent House pub. If you've been there you know what to expect. Gracing the walls there is large murals and paintings (although it is usually too dark to see them in their glory). The club is situated over two large floors with DJs, dance floors and bars on both. The toilets are large and clean and always have a friendly person in. The clientele are usually students who wish to try something different and just have fun. Alcatraz and Inertia are some of the best club nights in the north east. One of the best clubs in Newcastle, highly recommended. read more

World Headquarters, Or World HQ as it is locally known, is the only club in the city which relies entirely on word of mouth to advertise. It is hidden behind the old bus station, with a very reasonable pub opposite for pre-entry drinks. World HQ is effortlessly cool, there is nothing special about the interior to make it have the kind of atmosphere it eludes. There is a quieter area downstairs, with sofas, a bar, a pool table and decent lighting. Upstairs is a more traditional club area, with a few sofas around the edge, and a dark dance floor. Music tends to run towards House. The club is quite small in comparison to the other clubs in the area, but is very popular. read more

WHQ is a terrific venue, however the upstairs which is the main dance area is almost pitch black with very limited lighting. I refuse to go back here for safety reasons more than anything. read more

Hidden away behind an old bus station, this place has an underground vibe about it. A club full of friendly faces and many races with drinks at pub prices and a DJ who plays top tunes all-night. Be warned, this club is very dark with minimal lighting but this never spoils the fun. Many A-list acts have played here, WHQ recently saw the likes of Mark Ronson and Hot Chip return for the second time this year. The entry fee is around £8 which is very reasonable for such a crazy, hip happenin underground venue. WHQ is fairly small, sweaty and quite sexy if I do say so myself. read more
