For me, this is both a magic-inspired place and a magical place. Once I step inside, I am instantly immersed in its spell, with its walls in different pastel shades, paper cutout-like towering trees, colorful chalk art (The art in the long chalk board on the wall changes. On one Christmas we went the art had a Christmas theme), decoupaged tables, and charming collectibles like masks and bright birdcages. And, there's the gift shop with, yes, magic wands ala Harry Potter, tarot cards and other magical items. And, just look at the menu - there's a shake called Love Potion #29, and an onion soup called Gayuma, among other things! My favorites are Wands In A Cauldron (fresh and crunchy fries in a mini-cauldron) and the Harry Potter-inspired Butter Brew, which is sweet with just the right kick. They also have special drinks just for Christmas, and my favorite is the spiked eggnog.

At home in the SF Bay Area, Starbucks is the last option for coffee if there is nothing else available. It is basically dishwater compared to the elixir I've been drinking here for the last month in Manila. Been to several locations but we became regulars at this particular Starbucks in Westgate Mall, located just across the street, about a block away from our hotel. If they served this coffee at home, I'd go back to drinking coffee at Starbucks.

Alabang is slowly gaining more artisan coffee shops but since this is the closest and walking distance to us, this is where we usually end up going to. Interiors are bright, airy and spacious and this branch occupies two floors so it hasn't been difficult to find a table. They have a few parking slots on the side facing Audi while there are other parking spaces available in Westgate. The baristas are nice and friendly while some of them know hubby's go-to drink already -- Reserve Nitro Cold Brew. I tend to change my drink every time we come in though coz variety is the spice of life hahaha! Great place to hang-out, chit-chat and sip a cup of coffee. So glad this is so close to us while we're in town.

As soon as you step inside you'd notice the band posters that adorn the wall. From The Beatles to Nirvana, every music fan will fall in love with this coffee shop. What's more is that the coffee shop is very cozy that you'd enjoy with or without the company of your friends. You can read a book, bond with your friends or just have good coffee. One Friday night, I was very surprised when the baristas behind the counter suddenly took out their instruments and started an acoustic jam for the customers. It was a very nice performance and made my stay even more relaxing. As of now the coffee shop is still on soft opening but I think it will be a bigger hit soon. With such talented baristas, Penny Lane Coffee surely has so much more in store for them.

Penny Lane is very music-centric, a fact that makes itself known the moment you set foot inside. From the various posters depicting iconic bands and album covers to the counter that has Beatles references placed at irregular intervals, it is easy to deduce that songs have played a big role in this place's conceptualization. Penny Lane, in case you didn't already know, is one of the Beatles' top hits back in the 60's. This coffeeshop is very cozy. If you're looking for a place to whisper sweet nothings or have a quietly intense conversation, the almost-alcove on the left immediately after entering is perfect. Laptop users will be thrilled to know that plugs abound, and you can ask to borrow an extension cord if necessary. The couches are matched with a coffee table (which automatically means that it's low), so a proper table-chair combo might be your thing if you're planning on writing heavily. The outdoor area is small, comprising two little tables with two chairs each. Be advised that there is no lip for the edge facing the parking lot, so be careful or you might tip over (onto a parked car). The staff are cheerful and enthusiastic, the air-conditioning does its job well and the selection of piped-in music is pretty good (you can request songs, actually).
