    Scott !

Scott was a great host and tour guide. Very knowledgeable in all things volcano and the island. Super funny too.

Such an incredible experience. We were just expecting to see the volcano but we stopped to get coffee, pastries, saw parts of the rainforest and desert, some amazing waterfalls and lava tubes. And we can't forget the black sand beaches and many other stops as well. Scott was so fun and knowledgeable. Would give more then 5 stars if we could.

What a fantastic and epic day! Scott picked us up at the condo and we headed to the north east side of the island. He paid attention to our preferences and we even made a few special stops that were not on the 'itinerary'. He's great about customizing the tour based on the needs and wants and desires of his clients. What a fantastic tour guide. He's very knowledgeable about the island and its volcanoes, and he enthusiastically shared so much information. It's obvious that this is his passion and not just a job. He's also like hanging out with a friend rather than being with a tour guide. We had so much fun. We stopped off at a farmers market in Parker Ranch, he brought us to a place that serves the best malasadas on the island (?), we enjoyed the gorgeous views of the Waipio Valley and headed south for two waterfall adventures. I highly recommend The Volcano Van and the volcano man! Thanks Scott! Your Blue Ginger Buddy!

If you find yourself on the big island, even if you've rented a car, get yourself booked for a day with Scott and The Volcano Van. What a fabulous day we had - volcanos, tropical forest, beaches, black sand beach, Akaka Falls, Volcano National Park, a stop at Hilo Shark's Coffee and Tex Drive In's malasadas! And he fed us lunch! You could not spend a better day with a nicer, and well informed, guide. Really a wonderful day.

The glow of Kilauea! The last stop on our Volcano Van tour....simply amazing!

My family and I (total of 5 of us) really enjoyed our full day tour with Scott and his Volcano Van!! To quote my husband, it was "pure awesomeness"! Scott's energy and enthusiasm was evident from the first minute we met him. He is extremely passionate about volcanoes and the Big Island in general (climate, geography, history, etc). He really knows his stuff and is full of interesting facts, which he shared with us throughout the day. A few highlights from our tour: -Fresh malassadas (sp?) In the morning -Visit to a hidden away park with AMAZING ocean views -Akaka Falls -Stopping by a small fruit stand for fresh coconut milk! -Lunch at a cute cafe with fresh pineapple sliced by Scott -Seeing Kilauea's caldera and steam by daylight -Walking along the lava rock inside the national park -Surprisingly good dinner at the Volcano cafe -Seeing the glow of Kilauea in the dark (see picture) Scott was prepared with cold bottles of water, chips, ponchos, and flashlights, so we were well taken care of. A few vocabulary words that we learned (and remembered): caldera, lava lake, vent, and more that I can't think of at this moment! We enjoyed our day tour so much that we ended up booking Scott again for a 1/2 day tour to a black sand beach! I highly recommend booking Scott for a tour. He is intelligent and high energy, which made a long car ride enjoyable!!

Scott and the Volcano Van was awesome! Best time we had and to say that about a nine hour van ride is something. Well worth the money and the time. DO IT NOW!

They have samples of everything out in their gift shop, and they're doing some pretty fun stuff - we absolutely bought a couple bars (as usual, I liked the darkest and my wife liked the lightest chocolate the most, but they were all quite good.) I'd give the *tour*, which they only do a couple times a week, so we had to adjust our schedule a bit to make it to one, a 4/5. It was interesting, but you don't actually get to see any chocolate being made, a lot of it was just discussion (albeit: discussion while standing in a production cacao orchard - I'd never actually *seen cacao trees in person, they are pretty cool! Cool, but also full of spider webs.) They also cut open a fresh, ripe, not-processed-yet cacao bean at the end of the tour, and we got to try a little bit (it's delicious - sweet and fruity, nothing like chocolate. I wish we'd gotten to eat a bit more of it, honestly.) It was an interesting tour, not sure it was worth the extra planning it took to be there for it though - other than the fresh cacao fruit, you don't get anything you can't also try in the gift shop any time of day.

Learning about the different coffee variants that are grown such as Kona typica, Progeny 502, and the "boujee girl" Geisha was awesome to learn about and see for ourselves. Did I mention endless coffee sampling? Such a relaxing atmosphere to sip all the coffee you want and enjoy that view. And the cutest cats on the property were such a delight mingling with the guests. All staff members were so helpful and they even treated us with a goodie bag of freshly picked fruits from the farm and a bag of peaberry bites (my new favorite) all as a thank you for paying a visit on our honeymoon! Was not expecting that all but such a sweet gesture! I would highly recommend Heavenly Hawaiian farms to anyone if you're on the Big Island or in the Kona area. The color of Mauna Kea with the moon shining on it was so magical all around us. There were some clouds that cleared pretty well by the end of our star gazing. Jeff, our awesome tour guide, used a laser pointer to help us see the constellations we usually can't back at home. The images on the digital telescope like nebulas, the moon & star clusters were an amazing addition to have as keepsakes. My husband and I felt he made the tour a great balance of learning and fun. He had the group feeling like family before we even left from the pickup lot. Things to consider: I do recommend following the moons cycles booking this tour/your trip if this is especially important for you to see as many stars as possible. The sunset and views of the observatory's make it awesome anyways :) I struggled with altitude sickness around 12,000 ft. Jeff had made sure to let us know beforehand if we experienced any issues to speak up. I was hesitant as I know it would mean turning the whole tour around, but some tingling turned to dizziness and then a brief fainting. He immediately stopped the bus and helped ground me and make sure I was completely okay & coherent before letting me know our options for the tour. We made it up to the top with 2 more (included in tour) stops and I felt better with each one having more time to acclimate :) Thank you Jeff!! You handled this so professionally and I appreciate your check-ins for the rest of the trip. It's cold even with parka and gloves. It's so worth packing warm shoes and layers. The bus had ac and heat so that was great! Do it if you can! Awe-inspiring! Such an unreal environment that makes you wonder about so many things. Just take the precautions seriously, move slow and breathe deep.

This is right on the cruise terminal port and quite easy to walk to. The check in area is in a hotel called Courtyard King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel. I would recommend to check in early as 15 minutes before your tour departs, they guide you to the water shuttle. Once you get on the water shuttle, it takes you to the submarine. You need to be able to climb a ladder to get into the submarine. The space is a little on the tight side and there are no backs to the seats so work on your abs before the trip! The air inside was cool and constantly recirculating so it did not feel stuffy. Everyone gets their own porthole to look into the ocean and there are fish identification cards in front of you. The submarine can get to 100 ft pretty quickly and I was surprised that my ears did not get plugged up. We saw lots of fish that day. Some get really close to the submarine. We even saw a school of fish! My only disappointment is color. At those depths, everything has a blue tinge so sometimes it was hard to identify the fish. She didn't mention tips, but at the end, she got a lot of cash from all of us because she absolutely crushed the tour. My only nits were 1) finding the meeting place was not obvious because it's inside the neighboring hotel-- not sure if we missed those instructions somewhere. And 2) we donked our heads twice when looking out the viewports when we were looking at some fish-- not because the submarine was moving too fast, we just got excited looking at fish hah.
