I gave it full stars because I don't want to be unfair to a business that is closed, but this business is closed. I drove down yesterday (Saturday 2 January 2021) and the building was empty. The signage that you see painted on the windows had been scraped off. There was evidence inside that the building was being remodeled. It's very disappointing that they haven't updated their online information, which as you see indicates that they're open for business. I'm sorry I didn't take photos of the scraped-down windows and empty building. read more

I was looking for several months for someone to linen back my original 1950s movie and spook show posters and I found the vintage poster via google search. I met with Gary and brought him my posters and I couldn't be happier with the work he did! Gary took great care of them and handled them with care and great respect. Which is very important even more so with ultra rare posters like the ones I have. I will definitely be using the vintage poster for all of my conservation and linen backing needs from now on!! Thanks again so much!!! read more

Perfect! Gary is a great, knowledgable, owner. The vintage bullfighting poster i brought to him to have his team restore for me was brittle puzzle pieces and they were able to bring it back to its former glory! Thank you for the great service and got it back to me 2 months earlier than originally promised. Money well spent! read more

I grew up in Laguna Beach/Laguna Niguel and now live in West Hollywood. Luckily, years ago, I found Vintage Poster in Laguna Beach and whenever I get down there (sadly, not too often these days), I try to stop in here. They have one of the most beautiful collections of vintage posters, all under one roof. The gallery itself is perfectly located right across from the Surf and Sand in the heart of Laguna Beach. Gary and Bryan are super easy to work with, they're always welcoming and super informative. It's a pleasure to spend time with these two and be treated to such great pieces. They're very good about letting me (and guests when I have them) have fun browsing. I always learn something new when I'm there. It's also super helpful that they have a great website - well-organized and easy-to-use. This is one of those places that is a treasure. read more

I've been hoping to learn some information about two rare posters I own and today I remembered a dealer named Gary Gibson of The Vintage Poster. I telephoned him and was knocked out by the time and care he took with me. He could not have been more helpful. I was reminded how he always was so when I visited and purchased at his previous shop in California. Nice to learn he still has amazing collection of art, and is one of the kindest and most knowledgeable gallery owners around. I highly recommend The Vintage Poster for collectors as your number one go-to source. Either in person, or on-line. Rick Sparks read more

I have a strange addiction to confess: I get itchy and scratchy and money spendy around vintage fashion posters, and Gary is my dealer. Gary loves vintage posters, even more than I do. We also both have dogs named Dolly Parton, and we both live and die for Chanel. He has one of the best collections of vintage posters in the world. People come from far and wide to admire his collection and pick his brain. He loves to chat with a fellow poster lover. We talked for hours about Warhol's Chanel Prints that I had recently purchased (I could have gotten a better deal from him). He charmed me into a Rene Gruau that I had been coveting: a gorgeous lady in Dior. A rare find, indeed! It's not done with the purchase with Gary. He is a details-man. He treats your poster like a Monet, and encourages the best framing and backing. This is most certainly not because he wants to up-charge you, but he wants his posters in the best homes and with the best treatment. The condition of the poster is a reflection on him and his craft. Christ, the man even delivered. Gary is a true art dealer, a man who clearly has found his passion and wants to tell the world about the days where posters were made by artists and revered by all. Even if you just want a lookie loo or are feeling nostalgic, this is the place to learn from a master. read more

I was walking through Laguna Beach a few months back when I came across this gem. Even though the posters were well out of my price range, Brian was more than willing to show me what they have and why they are so special. He was very informative explaining the poster making process and the differences in European vs American styles. He also discussed quality and grading as well as told me about the website where they have more information on their inventory. Perhaps when I move up in paygrade, I will pay these guys another visit and buys something. :-) read more

I researched Vintage Poster for remounting a large format Kina Lillet, that had some minor water damage on the border. After speaking with Gary (who is absolutely amazing) I had decided to move forward and have his place do the work. I am always concerned as some posters from places I have had them remounted, have came back with some imperfections. I have to say that when the Kina Lillet came back to me, it was absolutely PERFECT and almost as if were brand new, I could not be happier. I am truly thrilled with the work. I could not wait to call Gary and let him know of my complete satisfaction. I would fully support the work of Vintage poster for and of your mounting or remounting needs. Mark read more

I have been collecting vintage original posters for about 20 years, visiting dealers throughout US and Europe, this shop is among the best. The excellent condition of the posters is one thing that amazed me. Condition is one of my most important criteria. Random people handling posters typically worth thousands of dollars is unacceptable, any crease, tear, dirt will decrease the value dramatically! To have a poster that has survived 100 years and remain in excellent condition only to be damaged by negligence of customer should be a crime. read more

I've got too many treasures from Gary to mention them all, but let me share a few. Let's start with my Josephine Baker, work our way through several Stan Galli travel posters, my beloved "I Remember Mama" movie poster, and end with the Four Freedom originals from World World II. I'd buy more if I had the wall space. The Vintage Poster is the very best. Its framing service enhances the quality and value of each art piece. Everyone should stop by to meet Gary and learn more about the history of diverse cultures (France, Italy, Japan, UK) as told through these posters. And the heart of Laguna Beach for a little bit of beach paradise isn't a bad stop either. read more

A must stop in Laguna Mist knowledgeable collector I have ever come across. And to the whoever posted they were scolded for touching. Do you touch the paintings when visiting a museum? They have the most well cared for collections. Smiles. read more

WORTH, at least, BROWSING, always!!!!!I just called the store, and they were the most helpful poster experts I have ever encountered. I called with a question on preserving multiple pieces and they handled each question with unrivaled wisdom. I've always enjoyed stopping by to check out the posters and I can now say for sure that the selection and the staff are both exceptional!! Always worth a browse, always. read more

Nice selection of all types of posters (movies, events, everyday etc.) and very knowledgeable and kind staff. They are a true gem if you are interested in vintage works and know everything about them. The owner travels the world to find good pieces to share with California. read more

Gary is one of the few ethical dealers in the business. Every year, I make it a point to visit during the Festival of Arts. Especially nice collection of Cappiello and Cheret pieces. read more

Gary & "company" have done several restoration projects for me over the years on WWI & WWII posters. They contract out the restoration work and have great connections that do excellent work. When the piece comes back, the gallery mats and frames the piece. Expensive, yes. But the quality and their depth of knowledge makes it worth the time and money. They are also just good people and great conversationalists. Thanks! read more

The Vintage Poster shop is a great OC asset. Gary is extremely knowledgeable about vintage posters and also preservation techniques. I left my vintage Lichtenstein litho in his hands. 90 days after I dropped by to pick it up and couldn't be happier. Thank you Gary! read more

Awful customer service. Worker was extremely rude he raised his voice at us and cussed because we didn't know his precious "art work" wasn't touchable. I don't care if it's worth 1000,000 dollars you don't belittle or talk so rudely to a potential customer the way he did. Don't support this kind of attitude. read more

I collect vintage posters and think that Gary has one of the largest collections in the United States. It is a real treat to stop by the gallery and look through his collection. That having been said, the prices tend to be VERY high-but its an upscale dealer so it is to be expected. If you are into vintage posters, I suggest you look at some of the online dealers. There are certainly many one-of-a-kind posters. However, there are many posters that can be found with other online dealers. Definitely price shop before buying. It is hard with beautiful posters though. read more

I can't improve on what the other commenters have said so far except this: Gary has a fine eye for the framing and presentation. Seriously, take his recommendations (he will spend an hour with on this) and use his framing service. Your posters will come alive. read more
