History

Established in 2015.

For 10 years, I owned a very medical optometry practice. I became bored and uninspired in this vanilla environment. Feeling restless, I sold my practice and started a new concept in optometry. I relocated to a new state with a brand new practice. I was an outsider and transplant, trying to win the town's trust and convince the people to come to my practice to spend money in my boutique optique. We needed to show our authenticity, exude genuine sincerity, and smile through adversity. I used social media, events and the décor of the office to display this business personality. People related to the practice. They saw that I was earnest and that I truly cared. I was proud of my venture. Unique Optique's reviews were stellar and real. Soon, I had requests to come and visit the practice and discuss our unique image strategies. People wanted this quality for their own businesses. In the end, I cultivated a brand to which people could relate. This is the Unique Technique.

Meet the Business Owner: Maria H.

Dr. Maria Higgins grew up in the Poconos of Pennsylvania. She completed her undergraduate work at Millersville University and her doctorate at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (now Salus University). Dr. Maria has been a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry since 1999. In 2001, Dr. Maria purchased a practice in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She owned this practice for 10 years and loved it, but eventually felt uninspired by the standard medical model. Dr. Maria felt that she needed to start a new funky new practice concept. She moved to Maryland and opened Unique Optique, a high end boutique carrying only fresh, independent frames. Word spread of the funky Unique Optique and the clever marketing, fun events and interesting social media campaigns. Dr. Maria was overwhelmed with people wanting to "pick her brain" about her methods. This gave her the idea of starting a consulting company called The Unique Technique.
