Unique opportunity to create a one of a kind piece to remember my visit to Hawaii. Husband and wife team, Hiwilei and Chaz Kamauu, aside from being an absolutely delightful, were warm and welcoming. Ever helpful in providing options and navigating what I wanted to create while offering their ideas along the way. They patiently listened and after deciding went straight to implementing the design. I selected 4 different flora to represent my children, and the Hawaiian phrase "Ho'oponopono" bookended by naupaka to represent my husband and I. The process to watch the hot irons carefully positioned to created the look was so neat! My friend and I were visiting Waimea for a day trip. She was SUPER excited to visit The Uiha Hat Bar because they make personalized cowboy hats. She had just bought new cowgirl boots, so she really wanted to get a hat to match. This is an area of fashion that I know absolutely nothing about, but after visiting this store with her, I felt they needed to be put on the map for others who are interested. The Uiha Hat Bar by Hula Tease just opened up a pop up location in The Parker Ranch Center in Waimea (Big Island). They said that they plan to become a permanent tenant in the center by later this year, though. They are open from 10 am - 5 pm Mon - Sat and closed on Sundays. Here's how it works...you walk in to the store and pick out a cowboy hat that you like. They come in various colors and sizes. The sizes are very specific (like down to 7 and 5/8 as a size kind of specific). However, I believe they can adjust/shape it if the size still doesn't fit you just right. I saw the employee doing this for another customer until she was completely happy with the fit. For an additional cost, you can customize the hat. My friend wanted to put her name and the number 93. Each letter/number is imprinted into the hat wherever you want it with a branding iron. You can watch the employee do it for you right there in the store. Although getting something like this is not my style, I felt very fortunate to have experienced this with my friend. She was so happy with her final product! I was impressed with the super friendly customer service we received and the excellent craftsmanship that was put into every letter/number on her hat. read more

This is a MUST-DO experience in Waimea on the Big Island. At Uiha Hat Bar you're able to craft your own custom cowboy hat. To start off you find your perfect hat from their selection of 3X Beaver-blend cowboy hats. They have different colors and sizes to fit your head and style perfectly. I went with their dark brown color and tried on a few different sizes before finding the perfect one. In the hat bar, they have examples of all the different colors and all the embellishments you can customize your hat with. I have the tendency to over embellish so I tried my best to practice self-control and go with a simple quilt print branding on the side and a shell necklace around the hat. Every brand is $3 each and they have a lot lot local designs and of course lettering to custom brand your hat with. More than just getting a custom hat, this is an entire experience. It was so much fun looking around the hat bar and the service really made it such a great memory. In true Big Island fashion, I randomly ran into my uncle, aunty, and cousin in the parking lot and so grateful for this keepsake that I will always have a remember this trip by. read more

We were very indecisive but she was extremely patient as we browsed through deciding what we wanted to brand and what if any accessories to put on our hats. My roughly 2 hour drive specifically to go hat shopping was definitely worth it. Expecting to get 1 I walked out with 2 and who knows I may be back for more. Very poor service. They just don't know how to run a business. The lines move slow because they are inefficient. People will wait 5 hours for a single hat. I've been to Las Vegas cowboy weekend and seen real professionals make hats and serve thousands of customers. They move quickly with courtesy and kindness. But this place moves so slow it actually ruins the experience. The product is great but the employees and the environment scream inefficiency: you'll be angry by the time you leave because you're witnessing all the terrible shortcomings in their service process. read more
