First time visit. Stopped with hubby to have lunch. Fish sandwich, 1/4 hamburger, 1 order onion rings, 2 medium drinks - $36.00. Well, that was quite the shock. Fish on the sandwich was about 1/4 thick, you could barely find it with all the lettuce, cheese and tartar. Burger was so overcooked, it was like shoe leather. Onion rings were impressive when they brought them out. However, they were saturated in oil. For $9.99 it would have been nice to be able to eat them. I had one and my husband had 1/2 of one. I stumbled on this place when I was looking for barbecue in Cassopolis Michigan and as soon as I saw the pictures on their website for their hand, battered onion rings I knew I'd have to try them when I did go to Cassopolis and I am glad I did. I got a half order to go Back to Elkhart with and by the time I got back to Elkhart, I devoured them on the way home. They were delicious. We stopped for ice cream cones on the way through the city. The selection wasn't too bad. The ice cream was way over priced for what you get. The double scoop portions of ice cream were equivalent to other places singles. The waffle cones were much smaller as well, but $16.00 for what we got was too much. We've eaten here quit a few times and generally food is good. Tonight, were headed to our favorite ice cream place (The Chief) but decided 1/2 way to try the ice cream here. I can't recommend this place enough! They have great good, easily one of the best 'burger and fries' we have ever had. A guy named Josh does the cooking and he is the man to see. No one does it better. This place is right on Stone Lake so the view is very nice, the staff is very friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the food is delicious. Me and my family (Hispanic) came in on 4th of July to enjoy some ice cream. When we asked for the large waffle cones they stated they did not have any. Staff was all women the day I was there. The lady that took my order missed hearing it completely right over the phone but at pick up, it was made right. Always great food. Service is sometimes good/sometimes not so good. Front area gets cluttered with people from the beach and kids running around. We ate dinner here twice on our visit to Diamond Lake. This is a classic "drive-in" place with fantastic customer service. The broasted chicken is ABSOLUTELY incredible. It takes about 25 minutes to prepare it but is WELL worth the wait. It has the crispiest skin and moist meat I've ever tasted outside of my mother's fried chicken. My family had the fish dinners and loved the crispy batter and hot/fresh fish each time. Mojo's and fries are pretty good. Cole slaw is not that flavorful. We had soft serve ice cream and they were pretty good(not very talented at swirling into a cone though). Like others have mentioned, it's not the fanciest of places but the service is extremely friendly and efficient. Will definitely make it a point to stop here again if we're ever in the area again. read more

I'm new to the area and I found much joy in finding an old school burger/ ice cream joint! The Twirl also serves breakfast in the morning and daily specials. I had the standard burger order and a scoop of the butter pecan ice cream. The burger was juicy with crisp toppings and the ice cream was oh so rich. The nice lady let me try alllll the flavors. Unfortunate. Did not enjoy this experience. The staff were annoyed and didn't care about anything. The food was average. The burgers weren't great and I probably won't get them again, although their fries are actually good. The overall value is not good. Mediocre food for high prices. Food also took 10-15 minutes longer than normal, so we were waiting for a while. Don't think I'll be coming back unless my family and/or friends go. Also, there are better ice cream places for cheaper, including the chief and the diamond lake golf course. read more

Zero stars. To be fair, I've given this place more than ten tries. Maybe 20. All because my kids enjoy the beach. Tried most of the menu. Orders are never right, food is rarely warm. I've personally seen employees pick dropped food up and reuse it, bathroom is disgusting, dishes aren't washed completely, employees are rude sometimes, I've waited up to an hour for inside table service, and the owner is a drug addict and have witnessed him peeing out the back door onto the sidewalk before. I could actually go on and on if I sat here thinking about everything I've witnessed and experienced here. The ice cream may be safe. Won't eat here anymore but if we are at the beach and need a beverage, I'll consider it. It's only in business because the village handed them the opportunity of a lifetime by creating the beach and hosting several summertime events, but they're slowly throwing it away.
