I make a 70 mile round trip several time a month on Friday, Saturday and on Sundays sometime. It is my understanding that they are fixing to add a little bait shop on the grounds and already have a cabin to rent. This place lies about 2 miles from town (reference point is North side Allsup's) off Hwy 380 going towards Newcastle, off of Hot Point Loop Rd. Once on Hot Point Loop, you'll take a dirt road for about 4 or 5 minutes to your destination. Basically a floating barge you can fish from both inside and outside. A valid fishing license is required. Bait is sold here (minnows are $3/dozen), as well are snacks and fishing equipment rentals. Folding chairs are available but not the most comfortable. As you arrive, there's an "honor system" box located before the ramp to the dock (I found out you can also pay the attendant inside the facility). Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children. An attendant is on site whenever they're open. There are metal rails all around the outside, and inside as well, with occasional rod holders welded into the angle iron rails. The interior fishing area has an estimated 10' x 20' opening. As for restroom facilities, if you're squeamish, you'd better use a restroom before you come out. The only thing on site is an outhouse, which I didn't even dare venture into. I'm giving this 3 stars because it could use updating and some renovations (occasional broken deck boards can be a hazard). Otherwise, the convenience of having a place like this available to the public for those that can't afford their own boat, is awesome. Fishing was a little slow for me this day (windy, and I caught 5 crappie and 1 catfish, all on live minnows), but it's nice if you want to get away and relax. They truly have everything you could need in one place, which saves you from having to drive all over town or visit multiple stores. The selection is top-tier, well organized, and perfect for any angler whether you're local or visiting from abroad like me. What really stood out was the hospitality. The people there are welcoming, knowledgeable, and make you feel right at home and comfortable the moment you walk in. Coming from Otter Town and seeing a tackle shop run this well was impressive. Came here for the first time on a Saturday morning with family and enjoyed soaking up some much…read moreneeded vitamin D and catching a LITTLE dinner. We have a neighbor who had caught 13 crappie (a family fave!) the day before, so we had high hopes for our catch considering they are spawning right now. I think our neighbor might have caught most of them because my dad was the only one who caught a big crappie amongst the 4 of us. I did catch a bass and a little perch, but it was a slow catch that took nearly 6 hours. Many went home empty-handed (including a lot of regulars) this day, so I can't complain. Did I mention I got some good vitamin D? Oh, and fresh air!! Yea, oxygen won as my best catch of the day. I think it's best to come on a weekday when less people are out. This way, if the fish are biting, they have fewer baits to choose from. I like this place. Entry is $5 per person. There are a few off-limit areas near the boat dock and walkways. I get it, but a bummer from a fishing standpoint since crappie like to hang out around structures (i.e. decks, fences, etc.) We found out that you can bring your boat out for $7, which is a better deal even if only 2 people are fishing. My dad has a boat, so we'll probably go that route next time. We were advised that they close the dock at 8 pm and you absolutely will get locked in the lake if your boat is not out of the water by then. Careful! If you plan on coming out a lot, an annual membership will cost you $135. As it relates to social distancing, I was honestly disappointed to see that many didn't seem to be doing that out there and very few had masks on when talking to each other. We still need to care for ourselves and each other, people! Things are not back to normal. Nonetheless, it is still doable to stay distanced and take your own precautions (like I did), if you're planning on coming out. Let's not live in fear, but let's keep doing our part to fight.

Hey buddy - instead of having a sign stating 'no alcohol on the premises' in the corner of the establishment where nobody can see it - place signs WHERE THE BEER IS LOCATED so it is visible. And another thing.....I advise not going to the grill during lunch time....heaven forbid you disrupt the young cook on her lunch break while talking with her friends.....she made it visually and verbally known that we inconvenienced her. I'm a pretty patient person and nearly lost my sh** on both of them. Inexcusable behavior to say the least. Marinas are SUPPOSED to be fun.
