The Thief is a study in good taste, great glassware, interesting art installations, and fine food and drink. The room has nice touches like USB ports next to the bed for charging your phone, electrical outlets that are accessible, a Geneva mini-stereo with iPod dock, a lighting control system that has four easily understandable buttons, plus the usual things like comfy beds and plenty of pillows. Free WiFi in the hotel and none of that logging in crap, just a normal WiFi WPA password.
Breakfast, which is continental and included, is really great. The best scrambled eggs I have had in ages. In general, Fru K can cook.
Everything the bar makes is fantastic. I particularly liked the Master Hendrick's.
All-in-all the facility is impressive, and the food is great.
The problems... There were several technical problems with in-room equipment. The first TV turned off randomly after around a minute, the espresso maker didn't work, the keycards that serve as the elevator and room key works about 20% of the time. This is not 5 star hotel quality control.
Housekeeping didn't have our room cleaned when we returned at 15:14 (3 o'clock). Check-in time is 1500 so it seemed reasonable to me they could manage that. After waiting in the lobby while they cleaned the room we returned to find all the dirty glasses were removed, but not replaced. Nor were the coffee pods that I wasted in the broken espresso maker. read more
