We just attended their production of Peter & the Star Catcher. The actors did a great job and made it very entertaining. The reason I only give 3 stars is due to the seating arrangements. It seems someone thought it would be a good idea to have all of the seats on stage. That would be fine, except the tickets I purchased on line indicated I had reserved seats. And, because the system would not allow me to leave a "single" seat, I actually purchased 5 seats even though there were only 4 of us attending the show. Because everyone was seated in the stage, seating was "first come first served". It appeared the friends and family of the cast had a heads up, because they all seemed to sit on the front row. The front row had an advantage due to the amount of the play conducted in the stage floor that was not visible to the rest of the audience. Compounding the viewing issue was the placement of a curtain/barrier that made it even more impossible to see the action on the floor from seating beyond the first row. In short, we enjoyed the show but were very disappointed in how the ticketing and seating was arranged. Had everyone been in the regular seats, there would not have been a need for the barrier and thus it would have been more enjoyable for this family. read more

This is a wonderful little theatre, and we try to attend a show each time we are in College Station visiting our daughter. I would give 5 stars, but as poster stated above the shows aren't always family friendly. What a shame! For this very reason we haven't attended a show at The Stage Theater for nearly a year. Their productions are seldom family friendly, and there is no good financial reason to produce productions that aren't presentable to everyone. Why marginalize families? The kids of today , and their future families, are your patrons of tomorrow, and you'd best reach them if you can. Plant a seed for the love of theatre in their hearts while they are young, and while they are impressionable. That can't happen if your shows aren't appropriate for their little hearts and minds. To each his own. *We are here at the theatre this very moment, and I'm typing this review during the intermission of A Christmas Carol. What a beautiful production. Bravo! read more

Brilliant local theater troupe. Very pleasantly surprised that the company were so professional & very talented. Terrific voices! "Mama Mia" was so much fun, and the orchestra is excellent. A bit difficult to find the venue, though. Perhaps more signage @ front of shopping center? read more

I wanted to love "Threepenny Opera"... but I couldn't. Admittedly, we arrived in a frustrated frame of mind after searching for the venue, the address of which is on S Texas even though the theater is located in a building that faces Villa Maria. GPS was useless; we would NEVER have found it had we not called (It's located BEHIND Joann Fabric). The theater is a great and the actors talented but, between the contrived cockney accent and the too-loud musicians , we could not understand 90% of the lyrics (and about 50% of the dialogue). The worst, however, was the lighting. The actors held flashlights to use, presumably, in place of spotlights. We assumed the theatre company either couldn't afford spotlights, or that they were out of order. However, the website says they have state-of-the-art lights, so it was -- apparently -- an "artistic choice". After being repeatedly blinded by these lights aimed, deliberately and accidentally, toward the audience, and our inability to comprehend most of the entire first act... we couldn't take it anymore and had to leave. I do wish them well, and I believe it is important to support local theater, but I'm not sure I'm up for another try. I'll have to think about it. read more

Looking forward to the new season! Took the kids to see Mary Poppins, and they really loved it! Now I want to see Sweeney Todd!

My family and friends truly enjoyed the stage performance of "Rock of Ages." Songs were rendered with perfection and the entire crew performed with extraordinary ease. The actors made it look like they had stepped out of the 80's time bubble just for the benefit of the audience- the actors seemed very authentic. read more

Several years ago, I would have given The Theatre Company a 5 star rating. The company has gone from very family-friendly productions to productions using more foul language and adult themes. It is getting more and more difficult to support this organization when the future is heading the way it appears to be headed. I'll give it one more year and hope future productions can again be entertainment for all ages. read more
