*GUSHGUSHGUSHGUSHGUSH!!!*…read more I can't say enough wonderful things about this pub. This five stars is 90% based on the food. Best pub food ever! First of all, there are 5 or 6 veggie options on the menu, which is a rarity. Some of their options are a mushroom stroganoff, vegetables au gratin, ploughman's sandwich, and a mediterranean pasta. My husband had veggie lasagna which was served with chips and salad. I had vegetables au gratin - broccoli, carrots, aubergines (eggplant to my american friends), bell peppers and onions, drowning in a rich cheese sauce topped with breadcrumbs. Heaven in a bowl!! There was a lovely salad on the side along with a generous portion of coleslaw. There's a nice selection of homemade desserts as well, which seem to change every week. We sampled the almond cheesecake which was amazingly delish. Aside from excellent food, there is good selection of beers. The manager is a super friendly guy who remembers us every time and always stops to have a chat. There's a cool layout with the bar in the entrance and two rooms off to either side. There's plenty of room for groups, however it's still small enough to feel cozy. Lots of outdoor seating as well. The White Hart is now a weekly trip for us!

Quite lovely Sunday dinner. Food was plentiful and very good array of choices. We have done several…read morepub meals and this was one of the best . We both chose the chicken, spinach an mushroom pie from the specials board. There was also quite good new potatoes (nice alternative choice from chips, they also had mashed) and the vegetable side was a veritable garden. Green beans, broccoli, peas and carrots - all in a portion size that would have sufficed alone. The tomato basil soup starter was delicious. We were unfortunately too full to partake of any of the yummy sounding desserts. Service was friendly and location is quaint-true locals type of place we go out of our way to find.

A wonderful pub in Bishop's Stortford, it's a proper old pub with centuries of history and a great…read morefeature is how it's separated into different rooms on different levels. The staff were very welcoming and we found a number of real ales on, although I don't recall seeing any craft beers. There's an outside courtyard and apparently a large room at the back with a stage where they host live music. The walls are decorated with various old paintings, and there's a fire place in one part of the pub. It's easily a place where I could see whiling away an afternoon or evening in a very traditional setting! They weren't serving food when we were there which was a little surprising given it was a Saturday evening, but someone said they were doing food at lunchtime. Although, with a food hygiene rating of 2 out of 5 according to the Scores on the Doors website you may not want to eat here anyway. Hopefully I will make it back at some point to enjoy the pub some more! Possibly skipping the food though...

Nice boozer, with an almost labyrinth layout. the other reviews have this place spot on, my only…read morecomment would be that since the smoking ban, the 'problem' with the loo's has become more apparent. This in no way detracts from the charm of the place, particularly if you're out with some mates, but if you're taking your other half out, just forewarn them before they take a trip to the WC. The best pub in town by a long shot.

We came here for dinner last evening in hopes of getting a good meal in a cozy, warm atmosphere…read more I'm happy to report that The Scarsdale Tavern delivered on both! The dining area in the back is a bit on the smaller side, and tables are close to one another. However, it worked for this tavern in that it created a more intimate environment. The decor is what I think of as quintessentially British. My husband ordered the beef Sunday roast, while I ordered the porchetta Sunday roast. It was a lot of food, but it was exactly what we needed as our first meal after a long flight from the States. I found my porchetta to be slightly dry and it could have used just a little bit more of that brown gravy. Otherwise, everything was delicious. i loved the roasted potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, while my husband's favorite was the sweet and spicy butternut squash. Our kids got the kids' portion of fish and chips, and they made a pretty good dent. I would highly recommend checking this place out!

Staying around the corner . After the Abingdon this was a come down . Ok but - maybe an off day ?…read moreOur first couple of food choices were out . Asked for a beer list and well ya know the look . They were out of my first two choices there too . pointed to the brew tshirt the waitress was wearing - sorry we r outa that one too...it was a theme. I'm sure on the right weather day with the right server and the beers and food spot on this is a solid local - the time we visited we had none of that sadly . No big deal but a bit of a letdown disappointment ...
