I had the pleasure of coming here the other day and was utterly impressed by the whole experience!…read moreI've walked past this place many a time and just never managed to go in, so when my friend suggested it for a Saturday lunch and catch up, I could hardly say no! We started off with some drinks - I had an incredible berry flavoured cider that was tart and pinkish in coloured, recommended to me by the lovely staff! I also had myself a nice black coffee (it was one of those days!)... The food menu is great here and there are plenty of appealing options to choose from. I spotted steak and chips for a mere £11 (plus £1 for peppercorn sauce, which of course I added) and was a little dubious... Steak and chips for £11? It's hard to not expect poor quality at that price, but I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised. The steak was great and cooked medium rare, as requested. The chips were AMAZING and the added peppercorn sauce was delicious and came a-plenty as well, so worth the £1 extra in my books. There was also a lovely big side salad that came with the dish, making it a hearty and tasty meal at such a bargain price! The setting is lovely in here too. I was able to bring my pup inside, which is such a massive plus for me, and there was a really friendly and comfortable atmosphere! I can't wait to go back to this place and, if I'm ever craving a steak and chips that won't break the bank, I'll be in here in a shot!! :)

I esp enjoyed the tastes, textures and colors of the smoked tofu puffed pastry and my fave surrounding plate vegetables were the cabbage and the roasted yellow potatoes w veg gravy. The reason I gave four instead of five was that the asparagus tart dish was lacking in good texture and flavor. Also, our takeaway leftovers were accidental thrown out in the kitchen rush and w/ it our jet lagged son's food; he literally was sleeping at the table. The staff in that throwaway regard were very apologetic. Overall a wonderful experience.

It really does have the best view around, hence the name, bit cold in the beer garden at the moment, but if you need a nicotine fix still very pleasant and delightful in the summer albeit busy! Inside is very cosy, I have a thing about lighting and this is perfectly lit with a mix of fairy light and candle light - oooh my favourite! The staff are lovely and have seen me in many different states, shapes and forms and haven't been rude to me yet so they must have pretty good patience... They offer quite a good drinks selection - not the cheapest, but they're always changing their wines which are usually very decent, I'd like them to get some Malbec in though, they never seem to have that... But it makes me try different things! The food in there is hearty and delicious. VERY good pub grub, extremely filling and has that home cooked taste and feel. I love the southern fried chicken burger and the veggie fish and chips (halloumi) it's served with chilli jam - BOOM! They usually have steak nights and such where the chosen food will be considerably cheaper on this night, everybody loves a bargain! Unless you're a flashy 'see you next Tuesday'... Great for kids and dogs Without it becoming a crèche or Crufts. Definitely a home from home.

Yes, the top of a hill is a lovely place to be at sunset. The ambiance is the definition of a perfect late afternoon. Their coffee machine was broken when we visited, so we settled for booze (it's a pub, after all). The barman was friendly. The Stowford Press cider on tap was really nice. No fewer than three dogs were present on the outdoor patio, meeting each other happily. It's cradled in a residential area right next to Queens Park, so you can cap off your day of gazing at vicious seagulls and honking back at giant white geese. Brighton locals who live nearby are so lucky. I wouldn't have minded lunch and dinner at the Setting Sun as well.

So glad we did it has to now claim the spot of my favourite restaurant in Brighton! It is tiny, like being in someone's living room but ever so cosy I have never sat in a comfier formal dining spot in my life! Except it doesn't feel formal the atmosphere was very jolly, you don't have to watch your sound levels like in some places, it's a really nice ambiance. It's was only how exceptional the food was which is what gave it its formality! To start we opted for a glass of prosecco each and were presented with the most gorgeous little appetiser of Swiss chard soup. It was absolutely delicious and made me realise how hungry I was so it worked a treat. Next they brought out a dear little baked loaf and butter which had been finished with a big sprinkling of maldon salt and course black pepper which we scoffed, it was still warm - oooh yum! For starters I choose a beetroot terrine, with a deep fried ball of blue cheese, a quinelle of horseradish mousse which was very creamy served with a few snippets of pickled shallot. It all worked delicately together and left me gagging for main. Result! G went for the crispy gurnard on a tomato salsa which was his favourite dish - everything was so fresh and the flavours were soft and sharp. It worked beautifully. For mains I had rump of lamb with spinach an peas with confit potatoes. Daaayem giiiiiirl. This is where it starts to get x-rated. I'm fully convinced the lamb was trying to have sexual relations with my mouth. It was the softest most tenderest piece of pink lamb I have EVER had. Exactly the right amount of everything too. The spinach was succulent - I didn't even know spinach could be succulent?! Surprisingly what really lifted the whole dish were the micro herbs, I'm officially a convert. Boom. G had fillet of beef with dripping chips and crab mayonnaise. He said he would like to swim in that mayonnaise. He was as chuffed as me. To accompany our mains we had a Pinot noir which was perfect. We were stuffed but decided to share the cheese board. You only get three but the Yorkshire blue was out of this world. To round off the meal we had the best Irish coffees I've ever tasted served with moist little pieces of brioche-y cake. I was craving them as soon as I woke up this morning. Everything about the evening was faultless. The staff have got the perfect balance of catering to our needs and chatting but leaving us to it when appropriate. We got chatting to the table next to us who had come down from Surrey cos they love it here so much - if that's not sold it I don't know what will!

The flavours used here are absolutely stunning- each mouthful a delight- and the food is displayed like each plate has been lovingly arranged by an artist (see my pictures for proof). The staff were extremely accommodating and always on hand to top up drinks and ensure that each customer was well seen to. Among the three courses there were also a few little additional free courses - a soup and a chunky, fresh loaf of bread- which made the experience feel much more special. All in all, this place was charming and the food and service really lived up to its reputation. The price was also not unreasonable at all and so if you're looking for a lovely meal that won't break the bank, this is a great option! Tip: book in advance to make sure you don't miss out!

The bar staff are very friendly and the prices are reasonable. In the winter they have a small wood fire in one corner that makes a certain table the best spot in the house! They serve really decent pub meals that actually do have a touch of the gastropub- fresh pasta, homemade pie, fresh fish... but at very good prices. Its a fair walk from the center of town but well worth the trek. Its a gastro pub as it should be in my opinion; non pretentious, friendly and comfortable. The whole place has that Parisian bistro feel which I love. The place recently won a 'Bib Gourmand' award - so when my starter, trio of paortland crab with crab souffle, crab bisque & hot crab toast arrived I knew why. It was presented on a black slate tile which looked amazing and tasted even better. For the main I went for the haunch of venison which can sometimes be a touch too gamey but it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We had starter and main each, a bottle of white wine (plus a glass of red with my venison) and coffees (mine was Irish) and the bill came to around £75. All Gingerman restaurants give you a stamp on a reward card for every £25 you spend though, once you fill up your card you get a two course meal for one to use at any of their places. The food is not a long way off Michelin star quality in my opinion so I think its extremely reasonable here.
