We tried the Arctic char on soba noodles and pierogi with ratatouille -- both were tasty and the portion sizes were just right for a medium weekday lunch. Because we arrived well before the noon hour rush, we had a quiet, relaxing meal bathed in soft light through the floor-to-ceiling windows. A great, affordably-priced alternative to the food court inside the CORE shopping centre.

Very similar offerings to the SAIT Culinary Campus but with a few clear upgrades. 1.) Seating! You can actually sit here once you get your food, and there's lots of it. Tables, booths, etc... great for meeting friends for lunch 2.) Wine bar? Ummm yes please 3.) Charcuterie and flatbread station They still have the pastry case, hot food options (but it seems they maybe don't change them as often as they do at the culinary campus?) and a drink bar. Wasn't as busy as I thought it would be when I stopped in but I'm sure as more of the lunch crowd hears about it it'll get busier.

Mango shrimp coconut ginger rice bowl

The upside to this place is that it's a big space. The downside to this place is that it's a big space. Yes, you get lots of primo seating (windows with ample natural light) but having the different food counters like hot bowls & salads on the far side, bakery in the middle and the flatbreads on the other far side, you're wandering back and forth to see the different menus and then realize you have to line up at the respective counter to order what you want. I think it would be way more efficient to have one counter (with the complete menu!) to place your order. I ordered my mango shrimp rice bowl and sat with my friend on the other side of the venue because he was getting flat bread. Even with a table marker, they had a bit of trouble finding me. I probably should have just waited at the counter instead of sitting down like they suggested. My rice bowl was really good - lots of flavor from the coconut ginger rice and sweet mango. No shrimpy sized shrimps here! They were decent sized and cooked perfectly. My friend's flat bread fell flat. Nothing spectacular, and kinda lackluster. I get that they use quality ingredients here, but there's no waitstaff and it's a culinary school not a full fledged restaurant so I don't understand the inflated pricing. The same applies for their Culinary Campus Market in Scotia Center too. There are surrounding trade schools (like Aveda and MaKami) that offer reduced services provided by students, I was under the impression that SAIT would be the same way too.

Can't say enough about this cooking school. This was pre covid and I still plan to go when they restart the overseas programs. At the presentation we sampled wine, appetizers and dessert. Beautifully pared and delicious. They made it so interesting and exciting I decided to take some of their classes in January, 2021. I signed up for 7 classes - Knife Skills, Cooking 101 (4 Classes), Stocks & Sauces and Made In France. My two favourite types of cooking are French and Asian. Needless to say I am very excited! Their in person classes are always small 10-12 people maximum so you get a lot of personal attention. Their cooking class area is so capturing the atmosphere of working in a professional cooking environment. They make it so educational, interesting, fun and motivational. Can't wait to get started! If you are interested in cooking check them out. You won't regret it. https://www.cuisineandchateau.com/

Along with the foodie phenomena of recent years, public friendly professional kitchens with…read morechef-grade teachers have been popping up all over Calgary , and all finding a voracious hungry crowd all wanting to learn from the best. And if what I've seen at Cuisine et Chateau is held at any standard of quality and excellence, then the food scene of YYC is very much alive and well. Hidden away in Kensington deep in a building shared with a tanning salon and a cafe, the Cuisine et Chateau awaits all comers who want to learn beyond the normal menus. I have to admit, it's a nice cozy place that just exudes the charm of a parisian kitchen, complete with brick walls and clean steel. Chef Thierry Meret of Le P'tite Table and La Chaumiere holds court here with Pastry Chef Marnie Fudge. Combined, the two bring a well rounded excellence and education to the students, and I can see why. At this particular event I was attending, I was given a taste of an excellent quinoa salad with grilled shrimp, replete with lemon tones and flavours. Matched with the paired wines, the dish was simply refreshing, bright and well, yummy. Needless to say, I did enjoy it immensely. It's a great introduction to the food, and an especially good indicator. A particularly nice touch is how they've made the lessons specialized for the time, style, and interests. Want to learn how to develop knife skills? They got that. How about how to make a great french of italian dish in 40 min during your lunch break? There's that. Or how about a field trip so you can cure and smoke your own meats? It's all there, and you can find out more by going to their website. I have a $120 gift certificate myself, and I'm stuck trying to figure out what I want to learn! 1 of the Yelp 100 Challenge

Located on the second level of the Scotia…read moreCentre, the market is open weekdays from 7am - 4pm with a rotating menu of breakfast and lunch options. There's hot food stations, a bakery at the back, shelves with freshly baked bread, sauces, tea, and other goodies, and two open fridges with salads, fruit, charcuterie plates for one, sandwiches and to go meals. Breakfast is served until 10am with a breakfast sandwiches ($6), frittatas ($3.50) and made-to-order omelets ($6). Lunch is served from 11am - 1pm and there's four different stations. The menu is posted online each day (http://culinarycampus.ca/our-daily-menu.php), at the entrance and at each station. The Rottiserie has two daily choices served on a long bun - their signature prime rib and a daily feature. The prime rib ($9) is one of the tastiest things I've ever eaten (super tender meat sliced infront of you, some light greens, olive oil and chunks of sea salt) that I would eat every day if I wouldn't double in size as a result. The Braise section ($9.50) is the most popular and includes your choice of starch (usually rice or potatoes), two serves of veggies (there's always two options, or you can grab more of a starch), and a choice of two meat dishes. The soups (two, $3-$5) are hiding on the left hand side of the Braise counter, hover by the soup sign and someone will come over to help you rather than joining the big line for Braise. The Saute section ($8.5) is split into the two different dishes for the day, which they'll cook infront of you - plus there's usually an example plate there to show you what it will look like. These tend to be meals on rice, pasta or noodles. To pay, a queue will form next to the Braise section and you'll be signalled from one of the four registers when they're ready for you. Service is always friendly and you can pay by cash, debit or credit. If you need any condiments, stop at the counter on the right hand side on your way out after you've paid. The food quality is always great and the menu rotates through so I always swing by whenever my favourites are on the menu. Or for the prime rib when I want to indulge! Happy eating!

If you have the chance to go to the Culinary Campus event during Big Taste, it is truly worth it…read more At $85/ticket, that put my expectations fairly high and I was not disappointed. Doors open at 7pm, and when you enter you are given wine glass. There are stations throughout the entire kitchen, and the chefs & culinary students are preparing each dish right in front of you. You're welcome to ask any questions about how the food is prepared. The dishes for the 2016 Big Taste event included rack of lamb, sushi, flatbread, shrimp & grits, wings & fried vegetables, lobster bisque, crab cakes, rabbit, duck confit pirogies, and ginger beef. Every singly one of these dishes was amazing. For dessert, there was a selection of chocolate mousse, creme brûlée, panna cotta, tiramisu, and banana bread pudding. I tried it all, and the dessert was a surprising let-down. The dark-chocolate mousse was hard, the panna cotta was soupy and under cooked, and the banana bread pudding was much more mushy than any bread pudding I've had. The milk chocolate mousse and creme brûlée were enjoyable. I hope the desserts are improved for next year. There were wine stations throughout the kitchen as well, with wine from several BC wineries. I think there were 6 stations, and each had a white and a red wine, and you could drink as much as your heart contents. Overall, this is a fantastic event, with amazing food. $85 is pricey, however it's such a unique experience, and you can eat & drink all you want. Definitely worth it!

It is sometimes busy in there but line ups are generally not long. I inquired about French cooking classes and online ordering. They were kind enough to direct me to another spice supplier for items they did not carry which I appreciated very much. Definitely will be doing a lot more business with them,

This was a Christmas gift for my husband and it was truly a relaxing evening and an opportunity to enjoy learning and making the food in great company with such a patient and knowledgeable chef. We really enjoyed ourselves and each dish was delectible and more than we could finish so we ended up with a full fancy roll to take home plus one extra dessert. Every time I come, I am consistently seated near the entrance, even though there are many other tables available. I also always order a decaf Americano. On one occasion, despite ordering a decaf Americano, I was served a latte instead and was told that decaf Americano was not available at this café. I have allergies to both milk and caffeine. The drink was only replaced after I clearly explained my allergies to the staff member who was serving me. I was even charged an additional fee for making the drink iced that day. What I found hard to understand was that the same staff member asked me to leave a Google review at the time -- which is why I am writing this review today. This is a menu item I order regularly, which made the situation even more confusing. Overall, the repeated seating choices and lack of attentiveness made me feel uncomfortable and singled out as a customer.
