Food is more than adequate, it's really good, and good value. If you are lucky enough to have booked the back of the bar out for a party, it's better than good! Place is frequented by the older crowd (28+), so no need to worry about some teenage lout running about drunk at night. But what really makes the place for me is the staff. Just out in a Saturday? Couldn't be friendlier (maybe because they don't gave the usual idiots to worry about). Book a party, the management are excellent! Constantly checking on you, you get the entire section all night long, roped off! Great customer service and exactly what is needed. Thoroughly enjoy this place! Well done!

It is signposted, but only just, so unless you know it is there it's easy to miss. In light of that, the fact that this place is always pretty busy (especially on Sundays) is perplexing. It's in the mold of a chain pub, although I don't think it is. The only saving grace is how child-friendly it is. Downstairs they have a large 'play-barn' type area, with padded climbers and ball pits etc., along with some arcade machines for the older kids and a few TVs for the adults. There is also a small bar down there but only serving soft drinks, beer is upstairs (from memory). Upstairs there is a main bar, and then a very large restaurant, split over two levels. It's a nice enough environment - a bit on the grubby side in places but on the whole it's OK. The food though, leaves a LOT to be desired. It is frequently cold or luke-warm, and is patently reheated. Potatoes are hard, veg isn't cooked properly, and it all seems a bit low-quality. On the three separate occasions we have been (not our choice!) the food has been pretty diabolical. Drinks-wise, there are the normal range of beers and soft drinks, nothing unusual there. On nice days you can also go outside where there is a lot of seating and outdoor climbing frames for the kids. The view is quiet nice, situated right on top of the River Stort, but it hardly serves to save this pub from mediocre-ville.

Service is second to none but not 'in your face'. They keep a distant eye on you and are there in a flash, if needed. A big plus is the price. Extremely reasonable. Sauce is the only place to go in Cambridge if you require a fix of bangers and mash. The selection…read moreis amazing you get to choose two or three sausages, the type of mash and the type of gravy. There's about six different kind of sausages to choose from, all of them deeelicious. Proper fancy bangers, none of this mostly-pig's arse-rubbish. Mash comes with sun dried tomatoes, Dijon mustard or spring onion and you top it off with red onion, red wine or another-I-can't-remember gravy. It's about £6/£7 for all that and the table has an awesome selection of condiments, including three mustards and chilli jam. If you don't fancy sausage and mash there's a range of tapas dishes available that are all very tasty but not as reasonably priced as the bangers. Sauce is kitted out in this funky retro 70's style décor with big paintings of sexy women on the walls and big chunks of colour. It's quite swish and there's a DJ later on in the evening so it's not a place to come for an elongated romantic meal as it gets quite busy with hip Cambridge types.

The food is good and theres a choice of main meals or platters etc and all quite tasty. The drinks are well priced and it feels friendly so more could you want. The atmosphere is comfortable with big round tables for large groups (indeed there was a big card game going on when i was there and it looked like a regular event) and theres sofas and booths for a more intimate meeting. Very well situated for the way to or back from the city centre, and the first pub after getting off the train, so next time your gagging for a drink after a long stressful journey, drop by and taste the sauce.
