Hi all, I was referred to Amber by my sister since she took beautiful pictures of my nieces couple years ago. So, I reached out to her to book for my maternity and newborn sessions. ( I saw her amazing work and fully trusted my sister) - so in my mind thought it would be a simple and smooth process and absolutely nothing to worry about. I reached out to her to see her availabilities and price range/ packages for maternity and newborn. She replied back vary nicely and provided detailed price range for each package. I picked the package I wanted and she told me she will be setting up a quick talk over the phone to know each other and coming up with date for maternity photography. (I attached a picture to prove that) She then rescheduled twice and when I reached out to her she was ignoring me. I went ahead and checked out her page again and saw she Triple the price for maternity packages. (Are you seriously!! I couldn't believe it- that's why she never replied back to me) I do have pictures to prove that !!!!! Then, again I contacted her but she never got back to me since she jumped the price. As I mentioned, she was referred to me by my own sister and took pictures of my nieces but I can't believe she done that. She raised the price as soon as I talked to her. So... after my maternity/newborn photographer went on hiatus, I was on a mission to find a new photographer for my daugher's 1 year photos. I wish I could say I found Amber right away... it took a year and a half until our paths crossed. We were at Back Bay one afternoon with our daughter when I saw the most beautiful maternity session taking place. I couldn't take my eyes off of them. It looked so peaceful and ethereal. The mother looked like a model (BTW all of Amber's clients are simply STUNNING) and the photographer looked super professional with her good looking videographer by her side ;) and all her accessories/props for her session. I had never come across a session like this. EVER. At the end of our "hike"... as we were walking to our car, I saw everyone standing and talking nearby in the parking lot. I walked up and asked her if she also did toddler sessions. To my delight, she said YES! She gave me one of her cards and I walked back to my car. Her business card was perfect... if it was an indication of the kind of work she was capable of, I knew I couldn't be disappointed. As soon as we got home, hubby and I went on her site. Each picture we saw was simply amazing. Each better than the last (if that was even possible). I emailed her immediately... told her I was the weird gawker from Back Bay. Warned her about my very feisty/squirmy/not so cooperative 2 1/2 yr old. And if she was up for the challenge, I would love to book a session with her. She fearlessly accepted. We started with a mini. The way my daughter was running around/away from Amber, I gave up any hope of getting a decent photo. When she sent me the gallery... I was SHOCKED. HOW did she manage to capture such images? Hubby received pictures for his birthday... to say it was his FAVORITE present ever is the understatement of the year. BTW... parts of this mini session ended up on her video. Since our first encounter... we have not only built a lasting business relationship, but a friendly one as well. So, when she informed me that she would be opening a new studio... I was thrilled for her (both as a client and friend). When we went to her open house, you could tell that blood, sweat and tears went into creating such a warm and inviting studio for her clients. This was a present for my Wife. Sugar Free was chosen because of the previous allotment of pictures we had gone through to choose the right photographer. Every picture you see, you can tell they took pain staking time to do correctly. No double chins, perfect lighting, and incredible facial expressions caught at just the right time. Anyone can take a picture, but Sugar Free Photography has talent. So, this is a step by step rating of Sugar Photography. We have already done the first 2 steps and have been thrilled with the way things have worked out so far. Step 1; The Consultation: An introduction to you and your photographer and crew. You know, most people will actually try to up-sell you on product. Amber and Tabetha listened to our needs and became creative with our budget, this made us feel comfortable with what we were getting, as they had a lot of options available. Then they showed us around the studio , the dressing room, the kids room, and the adult lounge room. Both are incredibly nice and you can tell they love what they do. Step 2; Day of the Shoot: PREPARATION We had Elfie Simon as the make-up artist. She did an amazing job with not only make-up , but hair as well. She left my wife feeling like a princess, and she couldn't help but takes a few selfies with her new look. When it came time for dresses, Tabetha, Amber and my wife went through their inventory of dresses to find just the right ones... They picked a couple I thought would look horrible, but they were right they looked incredible. INDOOR SHOOT They had a setup designed and ready for my wife. It was easy to work with. They positioned her into some weird positions, that ended up with her at one point almost tipping over which was pretty funny... but the positioning is key to get the best shots. OUTDOOR SHOOT We had selected to do the beach photography. We followed them to the beach and made our way down to the shoreline. The dresses there flowed beautifully with the breeze and you could tell that the photo's they were taking were going to be gorgeous. If Tabetha hadn't been there, my wife would have fallen a couple of times. They moved her location around a bit to get different angled shots. They were great to work with. I have had the honor of having Amber being my photographer twice. The first time was for my daughters cake smash and the second one was my maternity pictures. Both times I was absolutely astounded with the quality and creativity of the photos I received. This last maternity shoot I did turned out absolutely stunning to the point where I cried when she showed me my sneak preview. She captured my daughter and I perfectly. Unfortunately her molars were coming out during the time of the shoot and she was very fussy and irritated. It was so nice to take our second child for newborn pixs with Amber. My husband and I are so impressed each time we get to see her work. She is so meticulous, patient, loving. I'm positive that my baby felt her positive energy and was able to calm down when away from her mama. Each move is deliberate and when everything appears good enough to us, she is still working to make the perfect setting. She is a real artist doing what she loves and we appreciate her! I researched what feels like every photographer in Southern California for weeks. There are many factors that go in to choosing a photographer for a special and one-time only occasion such as maternity and newborn photos for your first-born. I wanted everything to be perfect. I liked her style, the session fee wasn't over the top crazy expensive and she was prompt and not overbearing when responding back. It was like a match made in heaven. I was a little late in booking my maternity session. I was about 33 weeks when we took the photos. Our son was born less than 2 weeks later so I'm glad we took the photos when we did! Amber was accommodating in fitting us in on such last minute notice. We met at the site and that's where the magic happened. She's like a miracle fairy when it comes to photography. Different angles, lighting, focus, poses....a slight detail can make all the difference in the world and she knows how to highlight the best. Fast forward two weeks later: Me: "Heeeey Amber, I had the baby!" Amber: "Wait, I thought you weren't due till March?" Me: "Yeah, he decided he wanted to come out the day after the baby shower." Amber: "Ok, does this weekend work for you?" Me: "Perfect!" Just like that she fits us in on a moments notice. Amber is patient. You need a patient photographer when it comes to photographing newborns. Newborns do what they want, when they want. She brings all the props to you including a little heater. Every single pose I was like, "aaaawwww." When we saw the proofs I liked so many of the photos it was so hard to choose. Everything is delivered in a timely manner and the photo quality is excellent. The only downside is the photos are a little expensive, but I know that's to be expected. That being said, I don't regret one penny I spent. I was 5 months pregnant when I booked took advantage of the Mother's day special. I choose the out of studio mini session. Close to the date, Amber was very good about communicating her concerns with the weather. We were able to work out an alternative day and time. That was a great start. The day of the photo shoot, I came in on time and her assist escorted me to the bk to wait for the makeup artist. I sat there for a long time. I think the assistant came in and told me she was running late. The make up artist was running late and apologized. I had a great chat with the makeup/hair gal....that was about my only conversation the whole time while I was there. So I finally met the photographer Amber and we were both pregnant so I struck up conversation about due date, kids related etc...but I was the one asking questions. Amber didn't have much to say other than a few words here and there. If anything, Tabatha her assistant said more to me. We got to the sight to take pix. It was quick because it was a mini-session. My husband was hoping we got some good pix with such a short period of time. I was optimistic! We got the email to view the pix a week and a half later. At first I was hesitant of what I was wearing and how I looked. The makeup looked fine in person, but in pictures, it appeared darker. Yes, everyone is their own worst critic but i was worry about what she can and cannot photoshop. Amber replied my email two days later and In that email, I also learned that she wasn't expecting me to be pregnant or else we would've had a regular or planning out the outfits better. She said just pick out the pictures and she'll show me a sample of what she can do. She did a pretty good with the pictures so I was happier about it. Amber was on maternity leave so Tabatha coordinate picture pick-ups. I asked about the free gift (don't kno what it is) to b picked up at the same time. My husband picked up and all we got was the 8x11. I emailed them and no response. I asked twice and no response so I am not going to be a pest and mention it again. I am a pretty easy person to pleased, but I took two stars away because 1) I didn't feel that Amber was/is friendly to strike up a conversation and 2) I didn't get a response about the free gift and even tho it was a mini-session, I should've got some kind of email or call to find out more about me. I filled out the information sheet but there were no room or area for me comment that I was pregnant. I felt that they could've reach out a little more especially for new clients trying them out. read more

Amber is amazing at what she does. She took pictures of my red headed girls (pictured here on yelp). The pictures she took are more than beautiful. She really connected with the girls and engaged them which made it so easy for the girls to listen when she asked them for a smile or a different pose. She really knows how to bring out the best in each child as she picked the location herself and it was truly perfect for my girls. The lighting, the background and entire setting as well as her after work on the photos made them masterpieces. We feel extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to have a session with Sugar Free Photography and were more than pleased with the prices and the packages we received. We live in Maryland and had a short time frame of days and times that we would be able to take our Baby Bump photos while visiting California. Amber's work is just beautiful and truly captures the essence of the subjects in her photography. We were so thrilled when she was able to juggle her schedule to find a time that worked for us while in town! She even traveled a good distance down to Temecula, CA to a beautiful vineyard for that natural light and naturally sweet setting. Definitely echo what the other reviewers have said...we are very happy with the photos of our newborn. Our friend used Amber for her two kids and we've always loved her photos. We looked around at other photographers, but Amber's photos stood out. So when our daughter was born, we knew we had to get some newborn pictures taken right away. Upon arriving at Amber's studio, we immediately felt comfortable with the environment she setup. She's definitely taken into consideration not only the baby, but also the people waiting. We brought our 2 year old to get some brother sister shots, and there's a waiting room with plenty of children's toys. He had been loving on my belly and I was... well... less than excited about feeling fat all the time... She and my now fiance planned a surprise engagement DURING our maternity shoot! She picked a great outside setting, which is exactly what we asked for and took all the shots we asked for, including a few extras in the attempt to get that perfect shot. We had family portraits taken as well as a few engagement photos and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. Amber got some beautiful pregnancy shots of me on the beach, but more importantly, got amazing photos of my newborn son. She was so patient during his photo shoot (which took place within a week of his birth). She waited for me to feed him (because he got a bit fussy), suggested a pacifier when he needed to be soothed, and really just took her time to get the shots she wanted. The photos turned out beautiful. I wish I would have gotten the package which included all the digital files since there were so many pictures that I wanted....it does get pricey when purchasing one by one.
