We were a large group (over 20), but we had announced we were coming. However, they were not prepared for us. For all customers they had only one waitress and one person handling drinks. The two of them did a good job. The problem was the food. We were the first of our group to get a menu and the last to have our order taken. That's okay, but from the time we got our menu to the time we got our food was over an hour. In addition, two of our table of four wanted an item on the menu that included chicken salad. However, no chicken salad was made that day, so they ordered something else. Then, when it was time for the food to come out, the waitress came and told me that they were out of chicken fingers. I then ordered a cheeseburger, which was overcooked and very dry. The cheese was not even melted. The onion rings were very good. Small town 1950s era soda fountain/ antique store. The menu is made up of burgers, hot dogs, salads and sandwiches. The prices are reasonable. The super cute older couple owner/operators seem to have a very loyal regular client base. The interior is adorned with various antiquities and Alabama memorabilia. A couple of members of the band Alabama are from Ft Payne and the town has a museum, statue and every store front appears to have some piece of memorabilia. The 1950's era soda fountain is still in operation. They have specials such as Alabama raised catfish and steak on select nights only. I had a bonanza burger with half onion rings and half fries. The best thing I had was the homemade onion rings! The burger was ok as were the from frozen crinkle cut fries. I would go back for the people and the onion rings!! read more

The service was good and probably the best part of the visit. Unfortunately, I have had better burgers. The hot dog was OK at best. The onion rings were good but not great. Even the fries were just OK. This was not a visit which would have me returning. The decor is interesting. The electrical wiring in the bathroom amazed me. I guess they don't have safety codes. We heard so much about this place and how good it was so we decided to try it. I wanted to give them high reviews but I just could not give more than a 3. We got the double cheeseburger and our some got the Bonanza Burger. We also got the onion rings and the fries. The onion rings are a must try. They are great. The fries are not that great with little seasoning on them. The double cheeseburger was just so-so. Nothing special. The bun definitely should be toasted or toasted better. It fell apart. The lady that took our order told us the sauce on the bonanza burger is what makes it the best burger. According to my son, it was not that good with the sauce. IMHO what makes a good burger is the taste of the meat. We waited on 3 burgers, three sides and 3 drinks for 45 minutes. Honestly they were busy but who has that much time to wait on a burger? We have been to Fort Payne many times, but this is our first trip to the Strand Restaurant. The food was wonderful and the servers were very helpful and "sweet"! The Ribeye steak was great!! It won't be our last time to eat here. read more

This cute little bistro-type place is right downtown and started as an antique store. They added a few tables and a small kitchen in the back. The burgers are from ground chuck, and are pretty good, although I would be happier if they were a little juicier, and they gave you a choice of how you want it cooked. The crinklecut fries are crispy outside and fluffy inside, though a bit on the salty side (and I tend to oversalt things myself). They also serve dinner from 5-8pm, though I have not been there for dinner. The service is friendly and accomodating. Alabama Band lead singer, Randy Owens, stops in regularly for lunch. read more

Ok this place is the coolest in town it is a antique shop with a restaurant inside that is run buy the family of the original Jacks Drive Inn (Not the franchise ) they have a burger called The Bonanza Burger and that with the home made onion rings is a must try. For those of us who remember hanging out at the drive in at the north of town the food will take you right back there when life was good and things like God and Country had meaning. So if your in Ft. Had the bonanza burger and onion rings. Rings were very greasy. Burger was tough and gristly. "Bonanza" distinction means a slathering of sweet/gross bonanza sauce. Service was decent. If you are into 1940's stuff, you will like the decor. Nice museum - not so good restaurant. read more
