This place was horrible. There, I said it. Never have I ever been happier to give a 1 Star rating…read moreto any venue I've been to. After being ignored for almost 10 mins by each and every staff member at the counter I was greeted eventually by an old woman who had told me to "move over" on 2 moments prior as she shuffled to tables with plates of quasi-pleasant food. Finally she asked me to go take a seat where I will be served. Promptly an elderly gentleman came and brought us a menu for my travelling companion. We ordered high tea, banana smoothie, berry pancake and salmon muffin. Ordering the tea was no simple affair as I had asked for a serving of milk and was begrudgingly told "Of course it comes with milk, not everyone likes black tea"...I was just asking. Sheesh! The milkshake arrived first being poured at the table and had a small fly on the froth. Why they poured it at the table I'm not sure, she then left the mixing metal cup there and walked off. This should have been the signal to get up and leave then and there. The scones came out as if they were freshly baked with home made whipped cream. If I have to base my review on that alone; they'd get 5 Stars. They're perfect! Tea was nice, not too hot so the flavour didn't go bitter. I was a bit unsure of my tea cup as it looked a bit dusty. My partner assured me it was clean. I'm still skeptical even after having left the venue and driving to our next destination. The pancake followed and wow it looked amazing at first. But after a closer inspection I suddenly was aware my fruit was old and on the end of its shelf life. Maybe already over the line? The first one was bad enough. A generous serving of icecream and more of the home made cream. Delicious moments of joy. But the jam? I have no idea what it was. It actually remind me of sludge. Tasteless, sticky and stretchy with no breaking. Was this even real food? I scraped the toppings off just to try the pancake and it ... was no better than bland. I'd actually believe this may have been great if it was a simple IXL jam sauce and a few fresh fruits with a ball of icecream and dollop of cream. Alas, no. Waste of flavour, money and time. Coming back to the milkshake - it was resembling of an expired syrup from under the counter. Why charge me so much for milk and syrup? I actually expected some of the good old fashioned flavour. Very disappointing. Finally the salmon muffin came. I have nothing bad to say. Amazing. Well garnished with a full compliment of salad and an amazing chutney. Again, perfect score. I would like to go on about the staff treatment to other patrons but this isn't my place to suggest how other people be treated. Like me; they all chose to suffer in silent maybe with a hope to get a decent product for the price were paying. If I could offer any advice having owned my own cafes and a restaurant in the past, it would be as follows: 1. Don't be rude 2. Don't use fake flavourings 3. Don't leave empty containers on tables 4. Don't be rude to your other patrons 5. Address new patrons as soon as practical if you just need them to sit down for table service 6. Learn to make things simpler than over the too, we appreciate that more 7. Finally, use fresh produce or just advise me when ordering you don't have that available today - I'll understand even if I whinge a little at first

Our wine tasting experience at Coal Valley Vineyards left us craving something to eat, since we had…read morerushed to eat breakfast on board our cruise ship before leaving for this excursion, and luckily, the second part of our excursion brought us to historic Richmond, Tasmania. We parked in the lot of the Richmond Gaol Historic Site and first went into Sweets & Treats for Australian and New Zealand confections, then into this bakery. When we entered with my sisters, there weren't any customers, so I took my time to peer into their display cases, check out their menu, and take photos. Suddenly, a crowd and line formed behind me, and several counterhelpers began asking if I was ready to place my order. I ordered a Lamington, a Caramel Slice, and flat whites, while my husband, who had gotten "instructions" from my sisters, had his eyes on the meat pie of the day, a Curried Scallop pie, since he doesn't have a sweet tooth or is a chocoholic like me. While he paid for our snacks, I delivered the pie and pastries to the table where my two older sisters were waiting. I briefly stepped away from the table to help carry the four flat whites, get eating utensils and napkins, and set the table, as we planned to share the food among our foursome. But when I returned, my sisters and husband had broken into the curried scallop pie. I could smell the savoriness of the curry and a slight scent of seafood from the pie. They motioned to hurry back to the table to try a piece of the tasty pie. Indeed, the piece of pie they had broken off for me had a sturdy, flaky shortcrust, and its mild curry-flavored filling had oozed onto the parchment paper bag it had been packaged in. So, thanks to my family, I didn't take a cross-section picture of the luscious, tender, savory, and well-balanced Aussie meat, er, seafood pie, as it was too messy to show. But, trust me, Richmond Bakery captured the cultural significance and iconic status of this Australian "national dish." Anyway, the curry flavor made for a strange-tasting blend with our flat whites, so we quickly shared the Lamington and Caramel Slice. Both iconic Australian pastries had great texture, moisture, and sweetness, which paired so much better with our coffee beverages and my sweet tooth. The friendly service, clean, historical ambiance, authentic flavors, and reasonable pricing at Richmond Bakery are what make us want to return.
