My experience in the LPN program at Eastwick College's Hackensack campus was deeply disappointing, especially considering the approximately $36,000 tuition investment students are expected to make in their nursing education.
Aisha Ortiz was the worst instructor at Eastwick College's Hackensack campus. Ms. Ortiz refuses to display professionalism, strong classroom management skills, and the overall learning environment within the LPN program needs better teachers.
In my opinion, an effective nursing instructor should demonstrate strong teaching skills, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, treat students fairly, and create an environment where everyone feels respected and supported. Unfortunately, my experience left me questioning whether these expectations were consistently upheld.
One of my biggest concerns was the perception of favoritism among students. I felt that certain students received preferential treatment, which contributed to an uncomfortable classroom dynamic. Rather than fostering an atmosphere centered on academic achievement, mutual respect, and collaboration, the environment sometimes felt divided. Nursing school is already demanding, and students should not have to worry about whether personal relationships influence how they are treated academically.
I was also uncomfortable with what I perceived as a lack of appropriate professional boundaries between the instructor and students. In my experience, instructors should be mindful of confidentiality, particularly when discussing sensitive academic matters such as grades. Students deserve to trust that their academic performance will be handled discreetly and professionally. Any perceived discussion of students' grades among their peers can damage that trust and create unnecessary tension within a class.
Additionally, I had concerns about classroom management and the learning atmosphere. Nursing students need structured instruction, consistent expectations, and educators who prioritize the educational needs of the entire class rather than allowing certain individuals to dominate the classroom experience.
These concerns contributed to my overall dissatisfaction with the educational environment at Eastwick College and influenced my decision to leave the program and continue my LPN education elsewhere.
My intention in sharing this review is not to discourage anyone from pursuing nursing, but to encourage prospective students to research their instructors and educational programs carefully. Nursing education requires professionalism, fairness, accountability, and a genuine commitment to student learning.
Ultimately, my experience did not meet the standards I expected from a nursing instructor. I believe students deserve an educator who can establish clear professional boundaries, maintain confidentiality, manage a classroom effectively, and ensure that every student has a fair opportunity to learn and succeed.
