We went to several different locations and they serve you appetizer portions. Some of the portions felt more like lunch portions so make sure you have an empty stomoch when you do a Spoon tour. All the food was delicious! We did the Old San Juan tour in the evening. We even bumped into the Mayor wo said Hello! The people were so wonderful and friendly. I can't wait to come back to Puerto Rico! If you are a history lover like me you will love this! We were told the story of the cobblestones left by the English, the port the Spanish would arrive to and then go to the Cathedral on their knees, and the steel left behind by the British. Our tour guide, Lorna, was excellent and so informative about the city and island's history, as well as explaining the culture and origins of what we were seeing and tasting. Since I don't drink alcohol, I was really appreciative that there was a mocktail or juice option at each stop. I also thought it was huge that they chose to support the family owned spots on this tour. Everything was good, but my favorite was definitely the pernil with rice and beans. I've been hoping to do a food tour for some time but there never seemed to be the right opportunity. But on a recent trip to San Juan, I saw the reviews of this and jumped right in. Very glad we did. it was extremely professional from start to finish. At each stop, the restaurant was well-prepared for us. And the tour guide told us about both the food and about the history of San Juan as well. We had generous cocktails at each stop. (There are 20 places they go to so your tour may differ). While visiting San Juan in February 2020, I decided to surprise my boyfriend with a fun date night. He has a passion for history, and I love food so when I discovered that The Spoon Experience existed, I knew that's what we had to do. We did a Sunset Walk & Taste tour of Old San Juan, and it was led by an incredible guide (who's name I have now forgotten) but he was so well versed in the local history. We met our group in Plaza de Armas, and found our guide with a bright colored umbrella so we knew we were in the right place. I think we made stops at four different restaurants and had delicious food and drinks at each stop. While I can't remember the names of each place, a few highlights included the mofongo we tried at our first stop and the cubano at Taberna Lupulo. We returned to many of these businesses after the tour. I found the pace of the tour to be perfect, and we learned so much! When I am back in the San Juan area again, I will definitely book another Spoon Tour. read more

This three hour tour provided insights to Puerto Rico's history, culture and culinary offerings. I purchased the private class for 6 people with Nivia and it was FANTASTIC!! Nivia gave us a great history lesson about foods that are grown on the island as well as the struggles of the farmers that help support our independent food source. I will definitely support local farmers as much as I possibly can. It was great learning about where our food came from and the cultures that influenced it, i.e., Tainos, Spainards, and the Africans. It just reinforced what I had learned from other sources. She listened and we learned how to cook Mofongo with Shrimp Asopao and Bacalaitos. It was great to learn how to do things from scratch. I will definitely be putting these into much practice in order to continue to enjoy these great Puerto Rican dishes. I would recommend this to anyone that love Puertorican food. Spoon Food Tours was an incredible experience! I haven't stopped raving about the Calle Loiza Food & Art Tour to my friends. If you love food, history and culture, it's definitely the tour for you. Pablo, our guide, is one of the most intelligent people I've come across. He has retained so much knowledge about the history of the country, Calle Loiza, and a general knowledge of events that have impacted the food culture in Puerto Rico. Although he's throwing a lot of information at you, his theatrical storytelling skills keeps the content engaging.
