I heard about this place from one of my good friends who did 6 treatments total here so I decided…read moreto book a consultation appointment. I was running a little late due to traffic accident and Mariko was very understanding. The place is very clean, cute and cozy. When I got there, Mariko offered me coffee, tea, or water which was nice. She also did my consultation and made me feel at ease with the whole process since this was my first time. She was honest too and helped me pick the proper treatment for me instead of just trying to get me to spend more. Since I do have dark hair, she explained my outcome will be more successful than someone who has light hair such as blonde or red hair. She also answered all my questions and was easy to talk with. I decided to go through with doing my first treatment and it was a lot better than expected. There's a package deal that includes 5 treatments which I booked. I also got a 10% discount for being a student which was a nice surprise. Mariko was amazing and talked me through each step and I think her techniques were so good which also made it not so painful. She explained both machines to me prior and did a sample test on herself before doing it on me. Most of the spots didn't even hurt, and the laser felt like hot air. The parts that stung it was really quick and she placed an ice pack right over which helped a lot. I did my armpits, brazilian, and lower legs and whole process took about an hour. She was very professional and I'm happy she was my laser tech. She also gave me some aloe in case I had itching afterwards, which I didn't, and sunscreen samples. Highly recommend Mariko and can't wait to have my future treatments with her!

Had three sessions, with facial scars and discolorations almost completely gone. Would strongly recommend to others.

While I am upset about what happened to me, I just want to let others know so they're aware of the risks of seeing these "doctors." I was going to Charlottesville Dermatology for about five months to take the medication Isotretinoin (formerly known as Accutane). The PA (not a dermatologist) that prescribed it to me had a pretty meh personality (Amy Randolph? Rudolph?) and did not answer the questions I had in any sociable way, but I did not really care because I just wanted to get through the medication. I started seeing someone named Ines, and she was better. I always thought their billing/reception staff was pretty rude/incompetent, but again, I viewed this as a temporary relationship, so I didn't change providers. At this point, I probably would have given them 3 stars. For those of you that don't know, Accutane is highly regulated, so female patients must take a pregnancy test monthly per federal law. The doctor's office must then fill the prescription within seven days of that test, or another test is required. That's right, they forgot to fill my prescription, so I had to go back for another pregnancy test and was unable to take my medication for a week. No one apologized. Then I found out through a friend that my medication is unequivocally supposed to be taken with a fat-heavy meal, such as salmon or nuts, to ensure absorption. I immediately verified this online, and according to the Mayo Clinic, it's true. I took an extremely intense and life-altering medication (you have to use two forms of birth control on it and cannot drink more than one drink) only to find out that for five months it likely wasn't properly being absorbed. This could explain why my acne only started to clear up after I started going to UVA's Dermatology group. The kicker is that you can only take so much Accutane in your system, so I now have to go off it. I have no way of knowing how much medication was being absorbed, and I never will. This is medical malpractice, and while I will not pursue legal action, I can only hope that no one else has to.

BUYER BEWARE. Nice facility. Professional environment. I paid over a thousand dollars in advance…read moreto treat multiple areas of my body with laser hair removal. I had to cease treatments on some areas because they get exposed to sun and the provider will not treat any area that gets sun exposure. I was able to continue treatment on the other area since it does not get exposed to sun. However, after a year's worth of treatments at the service interval the provider suggested, it turned out that laser hair removal did not work on me. Going into this, I knew that laser hair removal doesn't work for everyone. So, when it turned out to be ineffective on me, I wasn't surprised. Although after the first couple of treatments, hair growth did slow some but at this point, hair in the treated area grows the same as it did before treatment began. So I stopped treatments and requested a refund (HUNDREDS of dollars) for the treatments that had not yet been provided. The business owner declined my refund request claiming that, "There are no refunds." To me, retaining money for services that have not been provided seems inappropriate and unjustified (unless there were associated costs to the provider for those unused services - which, in this case, there were not). Therefor, although the treatment sessions themselves were fine and I have no complaint about the service that WAS provided, I cannot recommend this business due to the "no refund" policy. I suggest that if you are looking for laser hair removal service, you either find another provider or if you do use this provider, do not pay in advance.

I purchased a Groupon for laser hair removal. Online it mentions that there is "limited scheduling…read moreavailability", and that is true. The staff actually live and work in Florida full time, and they come to Charlottesville about once every five weeks for appointments. They're usually in town for a three day weekend. That means that all Charlottesville customers are on the same schedule. If you're flexible and this works for you (it did for me), this is a reasonable option. Cheryl, the laser hair removal technician, is proficient and professional. I was satisfied with my results and appreciated her fairly clinical approach. She made thoughtful adjustments in the treatment each time, and I benefitted from that. Because of the scheduling logistics, Cheryl allowed me to combine a few treatment areas under one Groupon. I appreciated that flexibility. Her assistant Adrienne (sp?) was also nice, though on multiple occasions she announced to a waiting room full of people what services a particular customer was having, and I thought that was unprofessional. Ultimately, I was satisfied with my experience here. I would recommend it as long as you know what you're getting into with scheduling. The Groupon made it particularly affordable, and there aren't a lot of similarly priced choices for laser hair removal in Charlottesville.
