Letter "firing" us as patients. Keep quiet, go along with the program.
Fill C.

If you ask too many questions or have records sent to another practitioner you'll get "fired." Got a letter that said "After careful consideration we are withdrawing from the further dental management of your child(ren)." It went on to say "you had stated that you had taken (your child) to another dental office and we feel at this time it is best that you have his treatment completed there." The note was not even signed. At the time of the first and only visit, we paid our bill in full, we were polite and professional, and we did not have any issues with anyone. But we did ask questions about procedures, materials used, and effects on the patient. And at one point we did ask for records to be sent. While this was initially for informational and review purposes, it now looks as if it's going to be permanently. It was interesting to note that during the procedure (not cleaning or initial exam) we did have done there the dentist did not make ANY contact with us at all. The assistants took our child to the operating area and the dentist went straight over there and started work. Afterward the dentist went straight to another patient and did not even acknowledge our presence. Isn't that a little strange? Reno is an underserved market insofar as pedodentistry is concerned. This practice has several offices and they are all scheduled far in advance. My advice is if you want to stay with this outfit, don't ask quesitons, don't ask for information to be sent anywhere, just show up and just go along with the program. It's pretty clear they know this and they don't have the time or inclination for answering questions or handling requests. Or maybe just find another practitioner.

Very caring staff! They have video games in both waiting areas for the kids to entertain themselves while waiting

First time I can recall having a good experience at the dentist!…read more At other dental offices, it was always the same problem - they didn't listen, aggressively pushed procedures on me I didn't want, and the results were mediocre, at best. As a child, it was traumatizing. As an adult, it was frustrating, and painful. Dr. Alford, and his staff, provide an entirely different and welcoming approach. When I told the hygienist I wanted minimal polishing paste for the cleaning, there was no pushback, just a simple agreement, professional, no drama. When I mentioned that I did not want ultrasonic cleaning as it was very painful, I was told they already noted that in my chart, and the subject was immediately dropped without pushback. That was a first! Not only that, between the hygienist and Dr. Alford, my cleaning was so thorough that afterwards I couldn't feel any rough spots from my problem areas that get a lot of tartar! My teeth are also whiter than they've been in years. I'm still kind of amazed, because I'm used to LONG sessions, and having to live with sandy areas because that was "The best they could do without the ultrasonic." I am super grateful to finally have a competent dentist to go to where I feel comfortable, safe, and my concerns and wishes matter. Dr. Alford is easy to talk to and put me right at ease, as did his hygienist. I don't know if it's because this is a pediatric specialty office, but the entire staff is naturally kind and considerate. It definitely takes a lot of empathy and patience to work with kids! Whether you're a nervous adult, or want to ensure your kids are in good hands, I highly recommend Alford Pediatric & General Dentistry for your whole family.

My five year old daughter developed a pimple-looking bump on her gum. I used our dental insurance's website to find a local dentist and was pleasantly surprised when these guys said they could get us in the same week. We met first with the hygienist for X-rays and a cleaning. Then Dr. Jackie came in. She was nothing short of amazing. She was soooo good with my daughter and made sure she was comfortable the whole time. Unfortunately, an extraction and a few caps are in our future. But Dr. Jackie explained it all so well and even gave us the option of an alternative to the normal novocaine shot and drilling. We are scheduled in a few weeks to have the work done. I feel at ease knowing Dr. Jackie is at the wheel

I'm so happy to recommend Dr. Murphy (born and raised in Reno) and his staff to anyone seeking pediatric dentistry care. You can expect to get friendly, knowledgeable, and genuine service when you visit Mt. Rose pediatric dentistry. When I bring my kids here, I have comfort in knowing that they and their teeth will be treated with care and that they're establishing healthy habits to help create a happy mouth and happy life. I've been taking my three littles here every since they were babies. The first dental visit is recommended as soon as their teeth start coming in, generally at 12 months, so the child can become familiar with the process early on. My children are now 4, 6, and 8 years old. The office has a cute bear/forest theme throughout and I love knowing that thought went into making a comfortable, fun, and inviting environment for the children. Dr. Murphy has been and to answer my millions of questions throughout the year and has the experience to handle any situation. I'm happy that we stumbled across him and his wonderful and caring staff and wouldn't go anywhere else for our pediatric dentistry care. Notes *They take all insurance and are currently taking new patients. *Dr. Murphy's staff is great at sending out appointment reminders. Appointments are 6 months apart. They also give out reminders over the phone. *You can find the office next to Mt. Rose highway close to Raley's shopping center. *They send each child home with a care kit after each appointment, including a tooth brush, floss, toothpaste, and sticker. *They have a TV in the waiting room and on the ceilings above their chairs to keep the children entertained while they get their teeth cleaned. They get the kid's teeth cleaned so fast and always talk to my kids so the TV isn't an issue for me since I'm a little to no screen time kind of mom. *They start taking X-Rays when children are old and mature enough around 2 or 3 years of age. *For children with cavities, they have a new treatment called silver diamine that the apply directly on a dry tooth. It turns the decayed part of the tooth black. This is to prevent any further spreading of decay and serves as an alternative to fillings. *Dr. Murhpy taught me that decay happens mainly in patients that consume foods with sugar and let it sit for long periods of time. The bacteria in our mouths feasts on sugar and their waste is what damages our enamel (the outer coating of our teeth). If you're planning on diluting juice, think of how long it will take your child to finish their drink. Their teeth will be exposed to sugar for longer periods. Bottom line: Get those teeth cleaned asap, especially after eating sugary processed foods.

To start out I'd like to preface this review that my rating is based solely on a botched filling…read morejob on one of my children. The dental hygienists have always been good, they are kind and do good work on cleanings for the kids. The receptionist at the front is always very kind and helpful too. If you were simply going in for a cleaning, you should be ok. This office offers good yearly cleanings at a reasonable price which was what drew us in initially. However, when my one of my daughters needed a filling, we set up an appointment, my daughter was very nervous, and when the dentist looked at the cavity, he said it was very small, and he could fill it without giving her the numbing shot. Dentist did the Filling, it seemed to go well, we were happy. However, my daughter's tooth still was bugging her a few weeks after so we took her back in. A different dentist at the same practiced found that the cavity had gotten larger and had not been filled properly. The dentist, I saw, did not want to say that the filling had not been done correctly so he offered to redo the filling at no cost to us since we had already paid for the first procedure. I appreciated that they stood behind their work and was happy it was being redone correctly however a little while later my daughter STILL was complaining about that same tooth hurting so we decided to go in for a second opinion. We went to a new dentist where we found that a massive cavity was underneath her filling that she had gotten done at tooth fairy. She was now at risk for a large and painful root canal because of how close to the blood supply the cavity was. We had the other dentist fix her tooth. The cavity was huge and it was costly and painful to get it fixed. I was shown pictures of tooth fairy's filling and the other dentists filling and it's safe to say there was no comparison. You can barely tell my daughter has a filling now, they took the time to make sure it was done right, it looks nice and apparently feels wonderful especially after months of pain. Tooth fairy's filling looked like they took some white chewed up gum and popped it on her tooth Since the last procedure at another office, my daughters tooth has been pain-free. Because of the what I feel was work that was poorly done at tooth fairy, She had to go through months of pain and we've had to pay for it numerous times instead of just being done right the first time! I've been in contact with tooth fairy, but I've gotten no response. Because of this experience I would not go back to the office and I would not recommend anyone else doing so for any kind of procedures. I sincerely don't like leaving bad reviews, but this was just not a good experience for my family, and I thought others should be aware.

I feel this is connected to the redundancy of gathering, finding, transferring my insurance information I already submitted to help this along?
