For years I have had lower back pain caused by 20+ years of law enforcement. Prior to retirement I eventually stumbled upon The Smart Clinic. After consultation it was determined I had issues with my L5 S1. They devised a treatment plan that not only relieved my pain but has allowed me to hike the entire length of the Pacific Crest Trail. Mexico to Canada, 2,650 miles with a 35 pound pack. I am currently (summer of 2021) hiking the 3,100 mile Continental Divide Trail. This is partially thanks to the amazing staff at The Smart Clinic! Additionally I suffered a broken tailbone as a result of my extremely active lifestyle and they have been able to eliminate 99% of the pain as it heals. Too many great Dr's there to name them all. I was referred to the SMART clinic from my general care provider last summer. From the first office visit, I felt like I was an inconvenience to the doctor and her MA. The MA (Cerina?)was very cold, non-empathetic and felt like I was treated like an 'addict' The doctor, Angela Krull, was also a cold and non-empathetic person. I was in a lot of pain and very uncomfortable. I had multiple steroid injections that caused more discomfort then pain relief. I would receive a week to two weeks of pain medication and was still extremely uncomfortable. After multiple, unsuccessful steroid injections, I was referred to participate in a study for sciatica and/or lower back pain. I felt like the treatment she was doing wasn't working so I was told that a study would be a good option. I felt as if her and her MA thought I was faking to get pain medication or to just get steroid injections At one visit, I could barely stand or sit down I was in so much pain; I have a bulging disc as L3-4. I told her that I felt las if she thought that I was faking my pain and injury. Of course she stated that she didn't think that but continued with the care as if I was. I was sent to get an MRI that same day, and when she reviewed the images, I was told that there wasn't anything obviously wrong. When I got a copy of the radiology report, it said that I have a bulging disc at L3-4. Ly left thigh is still numb and was told that it can't be due to the disc location and the part of my thigh that is numb. When I would get prepped for any procedure, again, I felt very unwelcome, and like an inconvenience. After multiple, unsuccessful steroid injection, I received an outrageous bill for the injections and unnecessary 'recheck' appointments. I have not returned to that pain clinic and never will. I am currently going to another clinic that is very professional, accepting and compassionate. I would not recommend the smart clinic to anyone. Ever. read more

Dr Alderman did minimally invasive surgery on my lower back. Up to then I have been on oxycodone for 9 years trying to control the pain. Two weeks after the surgery I was off the pain medicine and that was over two years now. I would highly recommend Dr Alderman and the Smart Clinic to all those who have back problems. I went to the smart clinic under the recommendation of a doctor I trust a great deal. I had a herniated L4 L5 disc. My surgery was November 8. My condition only worsened post surgery. And I am now in constant 8+ pain that can't even be controlled with narcotics. While the doctors were very professional and compassionate during my time at the clinic, the minute I flew home I was on my own. After a week of continually increasing pain I finally got a hold of their office and they recommended additional medications and a month later, a follow up MRI. When they got the films they told me my procedure had failed. I never heard from them again. I am now much worse off. In much more pain. Facing a second more serious surgery and these guys have basically abandoned me. The clinic is nice and I'm sure they're highly competent but I would not travel for this surgery again I'm updating this review. Two hours after I posted the original review, the office called me back. They claim they had finally reviewed my MRI after a week. They suggested I come back and this time spend five days in a hotel adjacent to the hospital. Alisa the assistant to one of the two physicians treating me implied that my condition / failed surgery and massively increased pain is my fault not the failure of the surgeons because I didn't come to the clinic with an accompaniment. If this was so important they should have told me before I travel to Utah. I was disappointed with the result of my surgery but now this has become a disaster and an emergency and I'm now facing the possibility of life long pain. I'm angry that the doctors would imply that somehow my worsened condition is my fault and not because they failed at their task to repair my damaged disc. read more

I was referred to Dr. Adleman after the surgeon I was seeing told me that a fusion was the only option I had. From my first visit with Dr. Krull who after looking at my MRI, told me she had a surgeon that she thought could fix my back laparoscopically. Dr Adleman called me and told me he thought he could help me. (When was the last time the doctor called you), not a nurse or aide. I scheduled an appointment, he spent nearly an hour with me going over my MRI. The day of my surgery everyone I came in contact with was kind, helpful, professional and knowledgeable. I highly recommend The Smart Clinic. The day of the surgery and the day after the nurse called to see how I was doing, Dr Adleman called also. My surgery was a success. The physical therapist was great also. If you have back problems I highly highly recommend Dr Adleman and all the staff at the Smart Clinic. read more

I've been going to the smart clinic for a couple years now. I see Dr. Ancha. She is absolutely amazing! She's extremely educated and she breaks things down for you to understand. She is always in a great mood and always concerned how I'm doing. She remembers my stories, children and always asks new questions forming an amazing patient/doctor relationship. She just has a wonderful personality and I have so much respect for who she is and the accomplishments she has made in her life. Every time I have a procedure Dr. Ancha and her assistant Kim help walk you through everything going on and calm you down when you're anxious. They are always laughing and telling funny stories. My procedures are always done correctly and sanitary. They work together perfectly and are In sync with each other. This weekend I ended up having extreme abdominal pain and back pain. She called me from her home on a Sunday to talk to me, she Instructed me on how to palpate my stomach to find out what area was bugging me. She spent about 15 minutes on the phone with me talking about ways to help the pain and possible issues I could be having. She suggested that I come in the next day for an evaluation or go to the ER. I came into her office and she immediately got me in without an appointment. She gave me a full exam. She suggested that I go to the emergency room and she was kind enough to write out all the orders, call the emergency room and speak with the doctor to explain everything going on ahead of time. Therefore my experience at the emergency room was quick and precise. Dr. Ancha Showed up in the emergency room and personally gave me the results from the emergency room tests after performing surgery all day. She was sympathetic towards my situation and showed a lot of compassion and concern. The next day I came in to the clinic and received a steroid injection that took care of the pain that I was in. She informed me that she personally called the surgeon and talked to him on the phone and told him everything that's going on. She has done that before for me with a podiatrist by actually walking over to his office and talking to him face-to-face. She always goes above and beyond more than any doctor I have ever had. Her assistant Mandy has been wonderful every single time. Always has responded to all my calls and messages quickly and appropriately. Even if she doesn't have an answer for me, she calls me back to tell me she's working on it. She's always so kind and compassionate. I have gotten to know the front desk employees and they are always so helpful and schedule me for appointments that work with my schedule. I have only had a few appointments that were scheduled out very far and they put me on a cancellation list. I have gotten to know Dr. G and his assistant Alyssa because my mom sees Dr. G. I cannot tell you how many times he has also gone above and beyond. My mom was taken by ambulance to the hospital and Dr. G manages all of her pain medication. My mom was not responsive enough to give a list of her medication to the paramedics. I called the office after hours and he called me back less than five minutes later. Then he kept calling back and texting me to check on my mom. There was another time that my mom needed a prescription and he had already gone home for the day. He came back into the office to sign it so I could get it filled for her. I have watched his bedside manners and him comfort my mom for years. When I come in for my own appointments Dr. G and Alyssa always ask for updates on my mom and always ask me to tell her that they are thinking of her. The office is incredibly clean and convenient. The staff is just amazing. I have never in my life had better experiences than I have had here. They always come up with a solution to solve your pain. I read some other not so great reviews and it doesn't sound anything like the staff that I have come to know. I always leave feeling so relieved because they have taking care of my pain and made me enjoy a trip to the doctors. I would recommend this clinic for anyone who experiences pain. These doctors have to deal with so many sad situations and they always keep the environment light and happy. Living in pain makes you miserable and bitter, having to go to doctors and get images, injections, surgery, is extremely scary and frustrating!
