There is a reasonable ca park as it gets quite hard to park in the summer. I have visited for lunch and dinner and both were very nicely presented and well cooked. The skate is very tasty and the scampi and Jenga chips are good. The costs can be a little bit higher for lunch but the menu is very similar and therefore for dinner, I thought it was quite reasonable. Peter who used to be at another Billericay restaurant is the restaurant manager and as normal makes sure we get well looked after.

Tables are there, set out for meals and others open, and ready, to set down a glass of their delicious beers. The décor is modern with hints of the original. Everything is painted white, even the old beams. Loads of pine coloured furniture and comfortable seating. As soon as we walked in we felt comfortable. The bar was packed out but service was quick and friendly. Wish I lived nearer as it would become a favourite for that Sunday pre-lunch drink.

The waiting staff brought meals out to other tables but didn't clear ours on the way back to the kitchen. The table was actually quite mucky and was never cleared; when we went to the bar to order dessert, the staff were unaware of what was on and what was off. The staff are friendly and helpful and make you feel welcome. The food is good but not great but I go for the surroundings. In winter you can sit in front a roaring log fire and is summer in the peace of the garden. It does get busy of an evening. The pub runs the camping field next door but it is a incredibly peaceful pub to have a quiet lunchtime drink.
